Organized Sports Equipment (Sunny Side Up)

I’ve mentioned a time or two that I’ve been working on our garage.  Organizing our garage has basically been a 5 year project for me.  Ha!  Can any of you relate?  Let’s be honest.. garages are HARD spaces to get under control.  They often become a home for ALL the extra things we may or may not use.  I’m happy to report that I’ve almost cleared out ALL the extra things (that I know we WON’T use) and my garage is so close to being done!  This is the last pile I’m dealing with this week and most of it is sports equipment.  I have struggled to find a good solution for our random sports equipment (tennis rackets, balls, rollerblades, etc.) so for years it has all just been in a pile on our garage floor with all of the balls in this black garbage sack.

Until now.  :)

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

{Chunky Wool Jute Rugall family room sources in this post}

A few weeks ago I was searching for organizers for our garage slat wall (more on that soon!) and I came across some fun organizers for sports equipment.  I found SO many good solutions (all linked at the end of this post!) and ended up going with this storage system.  (It just sold out, but is available here in white or you can get this system which is basically the same thing.  This is another similar option for less but it looks like it’s backordered a while!)  Kenny and I put it together over the weekend while we were watching TV (guess that show!) and I snapped this pic quick with my phone.  Typical scene from my family room on a Saturday!  There’s usually a board game up we’ve been playing and some type of project I’m tackling on a blanket.  :)

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

I decided to put it next to our garage door because this door leads to the backyard where my kids usually play with our sports equipment.  Easy access!  I almost ordered this system that hangs on the wall (I had a different spot picked out for it) but then I decided I wanted to be able to move it around if our needs change and I’m using it for something else.

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

Honestly I don’t know why I didn’t look for something like this sooner!  Before I even put the items inside I could tell it was EXACTLY what we needed!  Ready to see the after?

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

{Similar Sports Equipment Organizer/Sports Equipment Organizer in White}

Ta-da!  Took all of 8 minutes to put our random sports equipment inside and wow.  What a difference!

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

Plenty of room for all of the random sports balls!

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

Along with a handy little shelf for other miscellaneous items.  The top rack can hold more balls if needed and this similar set up (for the same price I paid) has another row of baskets on top.

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

Side storage for things like tennis rackets, baseball bats and hockey sticks.

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

There are also a few hooks on the side you can hang items from.  I’m not using them now, but I’m sure they will come in handy at some point!

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

This is one of those simple projects that didn’t take much effort and will have a huge impact.  It’s so nice just getting our sports equipment up off of my garage floor so we aren’t tripping over it every day getting into our cars!

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

Plus it’s going to be so easy for my kids to keep these items put away where they belong after they use them.  WIN!

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

Our garage cupboards and drawers are finally organized!  My goal is to finish our garage slat walls this week and then I’ll start sharing pics of this space.  This is one project that is going to be beyond gratifying to check off of my to-do list!  5 years and much blood, sweat and tears later..  :)

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

So funny.. once I got all of our sports equipment organized my kids suddenly had a new interest in everything.  Kole saw it and immediately started playing with his tennis rackets and hockey set and Addison took off in her rollerblades.  It made me smile and remember how when they were little all I had to do was rotate their toys around in new spots in the house and suddenly old items became fun again. :)

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

Quick trip around the house to make sure these rollerblades still fit before she put pads and a helmet on.  They do!  We were laughing.. not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.  Ad is hands down the shortest student in her entire 8th grade class!  Kole is 4 years younger and is about to pass her right up.  (Sorry Ad!  One of many gifts from your mom.) ;)

Sports Equipment Organizer (Sunny Side Up)

We’ll just keep the rollerblades on this summer.  They add at least another 2 inches!

:)

Below are lots of fun options for organizing sports equipment depending on what you need!  I love all of these systems.  Anyone else tackling your garage this summer?

Weekend Organizing (and thoughts on recent events)

What a heavy week.  How are you all doing?  I have been so emotional this week with everything going on.  The murder of George Floyd was absolutely heartbreaking.  So are the riots (not the peaceful protests) and the overall division of our country.  I shared some of my thoughts in this IG post and then to be honest.. I had to take a break from social media.  I always have to take regular breaks from my phone and social media to keep my sanity, but this week there was so much negativity during a time when we really all need to be coming together instead of tearing each other apart.  I know that for me (and my family) the real learning and growth is going to come from educating ourselves about racism and having important conversations at home.  I want to read books, listen to podcasts, watch documentaries and better educate myself.  Then I can explain things to my kids and share anything that is helpful to me along the way.  I grew up in a small town in southern Utah that honestly was like a bubble without a lot of diversity.  I was taught about racism in school, but there weren’t any conversations about how it has become a part of our society today.  Our diverse culture in San Diego is one of my favorite things about living and raising my kids here.  My kids have grown up with friends from such a wide variety of backgrounds and the way they all treat each other gives me hope for a better tomorrow.

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

I’m also focusing on kindness during this difficult time.  I think it’s what we all need more of right now.  Less judgement.  More love and empathy and kindness.  Even towards people who might see things differently than we do.  One of the clipboards in my office has a quote that says “throw kindness around like confetti.”  My kids always tell me it’s cheesy and it is, but I love it anyway. :)  You never know when a kind word is going to make all the difference in someone’s life.  I know that the kind words many of you send (whether it’s on my blog, social media or in an e-mail) lift me up in so many ways.  There have been countless times when I have been struggling with something or having a hard day and I get one of your thoughtful messages and my whole outlook changes.  Kindness matters and makes a difference!  It becomes a ripple effect and is what we need more of in this world.

I can hear Kenny singing “A Whole New World” (his immediate reaction whenever I start to get sappy) so it’s probably time to move on. :)  We’re heading into a weekend after what has been a hard week for so many and while we can’t control what is going on around us, we can control the spaces inside our home!  (For the most part.. unless you have kids.. ha.) ;)  You all know that nothing makes me feel better than cleaning out a drawer or cupboard and this weekend I need a pick me up.  I’m planning on doing some organizing while I start listening to a new book on audible.  If you think a little organizing would be good for your soul too I’m sharing a round-up of organizing projects that can be easily done over the weekend!  Below each picture I’ll link the post it’s from if you want more details on a certain space.

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Kitchen Series post 2}

Organize the space under one of your sinks!  It’s a spot that can get messy quickly if you don’t have a place for things.  Don’t worry about having the perfect dividers, bins or baskets.. those can come later if needed.  Just toss things you don’t need, wipe your cupboard out and put back what you use.  Such a lift!

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Master Bathroom}

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Powder Bathroom}

{Organized Powder Bathroom}

Easy way to corral toothbrushes for busy mornings if you have a bathroom by the door!  So funny.. we haven’t used these toothbrushes for months.  I’ve missed a lot of things during our stay at home time, but our rushed mornings trying to get 3 kids to 3 different schools I do not miss!

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Master Bathroom}

Having your make-up organized makes such a huge difference!  It’s the drawer you usually start your day with.  Toss old make-up, wipe out your drawer and put the things you love and use the most back neatly.  Easy weekend project that will have a huge impact on your daily life.  (Along with organization I also shared my favorite make-up and hair products in my bathroom post.)

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Office}

Most kids are out for the summer!  It’s the perfect time to organize school supplies.  Who knows what school will look like in the Fall.  If you weren’t happy with your kids’ home ‘school zone’ now is the time to think through what might work better for next year.  I’ve seen a lot of creativity in this area.. closets and other spaces turned into mini offices, etc.  I’m really hoping kids are back at school (at least part time!) in the Fall, but I’m going to have things set up and ready for home school in case they aren’t.

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Productive Office}

One way to do this is to have a space set up for important papers (a home for your paperwork AND for your kids’!).

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Paper Files}

Organizing paper you don’t need daily but want to keep can take a little more time (especially if you haven’t done it before).  If you have a lot of paper do this project over a weekend in baby steps!  Friday – gather up ALL of the loose and miscellaneous papers throughout your home.  Saturday – go through them all.  Place everything you can recycle in a sack and organize the papers you need to keep in categorized piles. (I always use sticky notes for the piles when I do this.)  Sunday – put the categorized piles of paper in folders and label them.  Keep them in a filing cabinet, drawer or file box.  Done!

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Greeting Cards/Organized Office}

Organize all of your greeting cards and set up a drawer or cupboard to hold things you need for mail!  I’ve loved having all of our cards, envelopes, stamps and packing tape in one spot.  Kenny was looking for some envelopes the other day and asked me where they were.  “In the mail drawer of course!” I told him.  He shook his head.  “Ahh.. you have a mail drawer.  Why am I not surprised?…”  Clearly he doesn’t read my blog or he’d know all about this beloved drawer.  Does it make you happy to know that you can probably locate things better in my house than my husband can at this point?  Ha.

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{5 Healthy snack ideas}

If you’re trying to eat better this summer prep some healthy snacks over the weekend!  I always eat better when I plan and prep things ahead of time.  I’m horrible with meal planning (I truly DON’T enjoy it) but I usually try to at least wash and cut up fruits and vegetables and prep some healthy snacks.

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Blankets}

Go through blankets and donate any that aren’t being used as often!  Corral the rest in one spot in your home.

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Master Bathroom}

Then do the same thing with your bathroom towels!

Then you’ll be on a roll so go ahead and do the same thing with your kids’ bathroom towels. :)

{Organized Kitchen Series post 2}

Wipe out the crumbs in your silverware drawer.  Buy a new silverware tray if yours is getting hammered!

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Kitchen Series post 3}

Tackle the junk drawer.  Always a feel good weekend project!

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Kitchen Series post 3}

Create a spot for your cleaning supplies in a closet or cupboard.  I also keep a few cleaning supplies in various bathrooms so that it’s easy to do a quick clean out in those spaces when I have time.

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Jewelry}

Come up with a way to corral your earrings and other jewelry.

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Theatre Room Organization}

Organize (or donate/toss) all of those DVD’s!  Hands down one of my favorite organizing projects.  I still love opening this drawer.  It gives me all the feels. ;)

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Outdoor Pool and Toy Storage}

Summer is here!  Time to get your kids’ outdoor toys under control.  I’m working on sports equipment in our garage and will share progress soon!

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Organized Luggage Closet}

Adding hooks to this closet under our stairs created so much more storage!  Another easy weekend project that can make a huge difference.

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

Now that my kids are out of school we are definitely going to sort through their closets!  I always do this in January and then again in the summer.  Kids grow so quickly and their closets can get out of control if I don’t make sure we go through them at least twice a year.  This is an older pic.. Kole’s closet does NOT look this tidy right now.  But it will soon. :)

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Kids School Work – What to Save and What to Toss}

I’m also hoping to organize my kids’ school work in a better file system this summer.  I’ll share it when I’m done!  My post on what school work I keep and what I toss might be helpful if you are doing the same this summer.

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Zone Cleaning Charts – an editable printable}

I’m also linking our Zone cleaning system and my Daily Expectation Charts for any moms who want some structure this summer!

Organized Cupboards and Drawers (Sunny Side Up)

{Daily Expectation Charts}

I know.. slim chance of that right?  In a way if feels like we’re going from one version of summer to another!

Hang in there everyone.  2020 has been quite a year so far.  The good news is that it can only go up from here. ;)  Thank you for the kindness you’ve always shown me.  I’m so grateful for each one of you.  I’m praying for you and your families and for our country right now.  Take care of yourself.  Take care of each other.  Love always wins.

I can’t help it.  Go ahead Kenny.. live it up..

Or say we’re only dreaming…”

Friday 5

Happy Friday!  This week was a blur wrapping up school with my kids.  Addison’s last day was today and Kole and El have one more week!  I’m so excited and ready to be done with all things Zoom.  I know I’ll most likely lose my mind this summer with nothing on our agenda, but with the unique school at home situation we’ve been in I’m more than ready for a break!  Ok.. time for Friday 5!  5 random things going on around here along with 5 things I’ve had my eye on in both home decor and fashion.  Fun!

Favorite Fig trees (Sunny Side Up)

1 –  C & B faux olive tree    2 – Amazon faux olive tree    3 –  WE faux olive tree
4 – PB faux olive tree     5 –  SM faux olive tree

1)  Kicking things off today with faux olive trees!  Olive trees have slowly become the new Fiddle Leaf Fig of design and are popping up everywhere!  I’ve wanted one for my formal dining room for months and just haven’t pulled the trigger yet because there are several options that I love and can’t choose between!  These are the 5 I’ve narrowed it down to.  My #1 favorite is this Mediterranean faux olive tree (gorgeous!) but the price tag isn’t so gorgeous.  Ha.  A lot more than I want to spend on a faux tree!  I’m leaning towards ordering the Amazon option and seeing how I like it in person.

I’ve also been looking at cute pots for summer plants and baskets for faux trees and found so many cute options on Amazon!  These are my favorites..

Favorite Fig trees (Sunny Side Up)

Speaking of plants.. check out my little hydrangea bush!  It’s so beautiful!  Still small and nothing like you see on the East Coast, but progress from last year so I’ll take it. :)

Favorite Fig trees (Sunny Side Up)

I snapped this view of our front yard on our way home from our walk tonight.  Such a beautiful time of year with all of the flowers in full bloom.  I find myself wanting to spend all day outside.

Favorite Workout Wear (Sunny Side Up)

1 –  Vuori Lux Performance Tank    2 –  Natori Sports Bra    3 –  Align  Pant ll  25″
4 –  Vuori Performance Jogger    5 – NB Accelerate Shorts

2)  Because we’re home bound and going on a family walk every evening you can pretty much find me in joggers and workout wear 4-5 days a week.  I try to wear my jeans at least once or twice a week just to make sure they still fit.  Ha.  (The struggle is real with quarantine snacking.. am I right or am I right?) :)  I rounded up 5 athletic wear favorites!  I’ve mentioned before that my favorite bras are Natori.  Seriously once I tried one a few years ago I tossed all of my other bras!  Now I have a nice collection of Natori bras for every day, but I had no idea they also made a sports bra!  I just ordered #2 and I can’t wait to try it.  Vuori performance joggers (#4) are hands down my favorite.  And I own a lot of joggers that I love!  Trust me they are worth every penny.. you won’t want to take them off.  They are usually sold out at Nordstrom so I was thrilled to find them in stock in several colors on their website.  I also love their tanks (#1).  Lulu Allign pants are so slimming and I love them in the camo multi grey (#3).  On my wish list!

Fashion - cozy at home (Sunny Side Up)

{Vuori performance joggers/memory foam flip flops}

Favorite Fig trees (Sunny Side Up)

3)  I might have to make an exception from my workout wardrobe to venture out in this new denim dress I just ordered!  It was so funny because 10 minutes after I ordered it I got a text from my friend Vanessa and she said “I just saw a denim dress from the new  RP summer collection that is so YOU!”  I told her I was one step ahead of her and had already ordered it.  We were laughing!

Friday Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Wonder how she knew I’d love it?  Maybe because I have 5 similar denim dresses already that I wear on repeat.  Predictability is a good thing right? :)  My style with clothes is always little more on the casual side so denim dresses are pretty much perfect in my opinion.  You can dress them up with heels or add a pair of boots in the fall OR sneakers/sandals in the summer for a completely different casual look.  My friend knows me well!

4)  I’m still trying to do my 15 minutes of organizing a day.  I have several bigger projects going on, but still try to spend 10-15 min on something small.  Most of the things I organize this way never make it to my blog or IG stories because they are just so simple (cleaning out old socks in a sock drawer, sorting through some of Kole’s old books, 15 min to tidy the fridge.)  Quick mini bursts of organizing each day.  Quick mini bursts don’t seem like much, but if you do it every day it makes all the difference!  Here is a recent example..

15 min organizing (Sunny Side Up)

Messy drawer in my entertainment center below our TV.  Don’t even ask me how all of this random stuff accumulated here!

15 min organizing (Sunny Side Up)

I took everything out, vacuumed the drawer (Dyson linked here) and put it all away.  I tossed a lot of it and the rest belonged in my office or other places in the house.

15 min organizing (Sunny Side Up)

Now I have a clean drawer to store my laptop, lap desk and coasters!  My kids have completely taken over my office so it’s nice to have my laptop in a central location.

tomato and feta dip (Sunny Side Up)

5)  We recently made my sister’s Feta and Tomato dip and I was reminded once again how delicious it is!  A quick and easy snack if you want to mix it up this weekend!  I shared the simple recipe HERE.

tomato and feta dip (Sunny Side Up)

*Recent pic of my sister with her husband.  I set the two of them up and take full credit for their happiness. ;)

Speaking of my sister.. I can’t thank you all enough for your thoughtful comments, well wishes and prayers for her over the past few months.  I shared this update in IG stories in a recent Q & A, but I wanted to let you all know here too that she recently finished radiation and her x-rays look clear!  (Breast cancer if you missed this post.)  We are incredibly grateful.  She is starting hormone therapy and they are watching her close, but so far things are looking really good and she is feeling a lot better.  I have been so worried about her with the recent virus situation (and still am!) but I’m mostly just beyond grateful that things are looking better and not worse.  Thank you again for your love and support.  It means so much to me and my family.

On that happy note I’m off!  Time to wrap up and post this baby since it’s now past 1 am.  Friday 5 is going live on Saturday.

Like I said.. predictability is a good thing right?

:)

New Favorites, New Series, New Sales!

Lamps, Coverups and Sales! (Sunny Side Up)

Happy weekend!  I hope you’re all having a good one so far!  Ours has been nice.  Really relaxed.  Spending lots of time outside on hikes and swimming.  We’ve had some pool floats in a closet that my kids got for birthday presents over the years and Kole begged me to get them all out.  I had been putting off blowing any of them up because I didn’t have a good air pump so I ordered this electric air pump (good reviews!) and it worked so well!  I had to share it with you in case you could use one too.  So random I know.. but if you need a good air pump this one is great and has 3 different nozzle sizes.  MUCH better than attempting to blow them up myself!

Lamps, Coverups and Sales! (Sunny Side Up)

Living his best life.. ha!  We’re getting very creative keeping everyone entertained at home.  I’m pretty much in the “anything goes and whatever works” stage at this point.

Even if that means 10 pool floats in the water at once.

Lamps, Coverups and Sales! (Sunny Side Up)

{Stripe Cover-Up Romper/Steve Madden Open Toe Slide Sandals}

Speaking of pool and fun in the sun I found the cutest cover-up romper!  Love the stripes and fun neckline and sleeves.  I put this over my suit and took this pic right after I got it in the mail and have pretty much been living in it since!  I bought these cute slide sandals last year and love them in the summer.  They are flat so not great shoes for lots of walking, but for the kind of walking I’m mostly doing right now – pool to the house to the grocery store to the house to the pool – they are perfect. :)  I want them in rose gold too!

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

Also remember my new Loving Tan self tanning spray and application mitt I mentioned in my last post?  I tried it and will NEVER USE ANYTHING ELSE AGAIN.  Seriously.. so good!  The mitt makes it easy to spread on and you can see exactly where it’s going so it’s almost hard to mess up.  No smell, it dries fast (I bought the 2 hour express) and it looks so much more realistic than others I’ve used.  I don’t use tanners regularly but during the summer months when we’re in the pool a lot I love a little color – especially on my legs.  I bought the dark (comes in medium, dark and ultra dark) and I feel like it’s perfect for me.  I have really fair skin but I’ve found that the lightest tanners are usually too light and don’t make much of a difference.  (So if you already tan easily I would go with ultra dark.)  I wanted to try it out before I gave you my honest thoughts.  So honest thoughts!  Everyone was right.. worth paying a little more for this!  I’m so excited about it.

Ok.. I had this fun idea of starting a new series called Friday 5 where I share 5 similar items I’ve been looking at during the week.  I’m usually hunting for something specific to wear or for my house and I always come across lots of cute options along the way!  This week I’ve been looking at cute pool cover-ups for summer and lamp options for my bedroom.  Of course the idea is that I post my Friday 5 ON Friday which obviously didn’t happen.  I’ll try to be more punctual next week!  But I’m making no promises because like I said.. “anything goes and whatever works” stage around here. :)

Lamps, Coverups and Sales! (Sunny Side Up)1)  PAREO  2)  PACIFIC COVER-UP TUNIC  3)  WRAP MAXI COVER-UP DRESS  4)  SLOUCHY HOODED SWEATER COVER-UP TUNIC
5)   SUNSET SMOCKED COVER-UP MAXI DRESS

Aren’t they all so cute!?  I have had #1 for years.  Such a staple.  The rest are sitting in my on-line cart waiting for me to make a decision.  They’re all too cute to decide!  You can see lots of other fun options for summer here.

Lamps, Coverups and Sales! (Sunny Side Up)

{Tilda Bubble Table Lamp}

This picture is truly horrible (I snapped it from an IG story video because I forgot to get a pic of these lamps earlier today!) but these are the cute new lamps I bought for El’s room.  Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of progress to share in her room.  We got started on it, then we got busy, then all things Covid hit and it just hasn’t been a priority.  But her lamps finally came (we ordered them months ago – they were backordered!) and they are motivating me to prioritize her room again.  They also kick started a search for white and gold lamps because I’m so in love with hers!  Thinking I might go for the same lamp look in my bedroom.

These are my favorites I’ve found so far!

Lamps, Coverups and Sales! (Sunny Side Up)

{Ultra soft lounge pants/Steve Madden Open Toe Slide Sandals}

When I make an effort to get out of my swim suit and cover-up these days I’m still just reaching for joggers!  Found this cute pair on Amazon and they are so soft!  They do run a little big.  I’m wearing a small because they don’t come in xs and I had to roll the top elastic part down.  Still keeping them because they are so soft and comfortable and really cute!

Lamps, Coverups and Sales! (Sunny Side Up)

{Long weekend pants}

Another fun pain of joggers!  Nordstrom has so many cute pairs that keep coming in.. making this stay at home situation comfy at least! :)

Lots of fun Memorial Day Sales this weekend.  Here are some favorites I already have and things I’m debating!

How to clean outdoor furniture cushions

*affiliate links used
Beautiful faux lilacs (Sunny Side Up)

{Shouldered Clear Glass Vase/Similar Bowl here or here}

I’ve had some questions about how I clean my outdoor furniture cushions lately so I took a few pics when I cleaned them last week!  I love this time of year when the sun is shining and kids are swimming and it’s time to clean off outdoor furniture.  Also it’s lilac season!  Do you have lilacs blooming where you live?  We don’t see them much in San Diego (they are harder to grow in climates like ours that never get a long period of winter chill).  My grandma had a beautiful lilac bush in her yard and when I was little spending time at her house I remember how much I loved that bush and the way it smelled!  They have always been one of my favorite flowers.  Remember when I found lilacs in my grocery store for the first time and was so excited?

Beautiful faux lilacs (Sunny Side Up)

That excitement didn’t last long when they started to look like this the next evening!  I love lilacs.  But this?  I just can’t.  Those little purple petals were everywhere!

Beautiful faux lilacs (Sunny Side Up)

{faux lilacs/Artisan vase/similar wooden bowl/kitchen rugs/faux pink peonies/marble tray}

So I’ve gone faux and have never been happier.  How gorgeous is this arrangement!?  So realistic looking.  Plus they are huge!  I love them.  These purple stems are currently sold out but are still available in pink.  I did some hunting on-line and have found a few other fun options if you want mess free lilacs in your home this summer too!  Pair them next to a bowl full of lemons and you just updated your space for summer. :)  (This cute top and other favorites are linked in my last fashion post!)

Beautiful faux lilacs (Sunny Side Up)

My friend has these gorgeous faux lilac stems that are also beautiful!  A lot smaller and less expensive which is nice too.  I also found two other great realistic looking options here and here.  Such a fun and easy way to bring summer into your home!

How to wash outdoor patio cushions (Sunny Side Up)

{round rattan tray/diamond indoor/outdoor rug}

Now that we have the table arrangement covered it’s time to get our outdoor furniture cleaned and summer ready!  Last year we got this beautiful outdoor furniture set and because it sits on our back porch and is covered I didn’t even think about bringing the cushions inside during the winter.

How to wash outdoor patio cushions (Sunny Side Up)

That was a mistake I won’t make next year!  The white cushions were filthy!  Can you tell where the pillows were sitting on this couch?  Ha.

How to wash outdoor patio cushions (Sunny Side Up)

Two of the cushions I didn’t photograph were even worse with bird poop all over them!  So much fun right?

It’s actually really easy to clean outdoor furniture cushions so I’ll share my simple process!

How to wash outdoor patio cushions (Sunny Side Up)

First I spray off a section of my pavers with the hose so I’m not setting them down on more dirt.  Then I bring out all of my cushions and lay them flat and spray them off.  You can use a hose or a pressure washer for this.. I always just use our hose.  Some of the dirt will come off just from spraying them.

How to wash outdoor patio cushions (Sunny Side Up)

Then get a bucket and fill it about half full with a few squirts of mild dish soap and about a cup of Borax.   (I only filled this bucket 1/4 full because it’s huge!)  I used to just do this with mild dish soap but I once read that adding Borax makes a big difference so I’ve been doing it that way and it does!  Looks like Addison’s lingering slime supplies came in handy after all. ;)  You also need a good scrub brush with a handle!

How to wash outdoor patio cushions (Sunny Side Up)

Then just start scrubbing!  Kole loves to do anything that involves spraying things with the hose so when he saw me cleaning the cushions he hopped out of the pool to assist. :)  I like to start on one end of the cushion and just work my way across.. put some muscle in it and really scrub and keep rinsing off your scrub brush with the cleaning solution.  You’ll be amazed how clean you can get your cushions with a little soap and scrubbing!

How to wash outdoor patio cushions (Sunny Side Up)

When you’re done scrubbing spray off all of the soap.  Then flip the cushion and do the same thing on the other side!  After scrubbing both sides spray them off one more time holding them up off of the ground so you get ALL of the dirt off.  Then I fold them in half as best as I can to wring some of the water out.

How to wash outdoor patio cushions (Sunny Side Up)

After that just find a sunny spot in your yard to prop them up to dry!  They will sparkle so clean in the sun and you will feel oh so accomplished! :)

I love May.  Like many of you moms out there I’m usually running around to 368 end of the year activities with all of the school and extra curricular stuff for the kids winding down.  Some of that I miss this year (and my heart goes out to all of the seniors!).  But I don’t miss the stress, the overwhelm, the long days with a never ending to-do list and little sleep.  Over the past few years May has become even busier than December for me so while our current situation is hard, I’m trying to focus on the positive this month and enjoy a slower start to summer with my kids.  I hope you are all able to do the same.  We’ve got plenty of time to clean our outdoor furniture cushions!

Such a gift. ;)

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

Happy Friday!  I started this post on Monday and am just now finishing it Thursday night.  Ha.  Some weeks just roll that way don’t they?  It has actually been a productive week overall, but I’ve been so busy with projects I haven’t been on my computer much.  I always struggle with being on my computer this time of year.  It’s so beautiful and sunny outside!  I just want to be working in the yard or outside with my kids.  Speaking of my kids here’s a pic we snapped together on Mother’s Day.  It was a great one.. really low key.  Kenny and I snuck out early for a little drive and breakfast picnic by a lake while my kids slept.  We’ve found that Saturday and Sunday early mornings are our best alone time now that they all stay up so late and sleep in!  We were home by 11 am and the kids had cleaned the kitchen for me and made cards and this sign with my favorite treats.  We spent the rest of the day all together in the yard and then watched a movie.  Couldn’t love these three more. :)  I hope it was a good weekend for all of you!

Last year I wrote a post around Mother’s Day called 10 Habits for Happy Moms and I was reading it a few days ago.  I feel like so many of the habits I mentioned in that post are the same things I’m trying to do now to  stay happy during this current turn of events we’ve all been dealing with (other than group get togethers with friends of course). ;)  You can read that post HERE if you think the reminders might be helpful for you too!

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

I’ve been working hard to finish organizing our garage so my sweet husband gave me the BEST Mother’s Day gift ever by scrubbing our garage floor clean.  In the past I’ve mopped it and we’ve used a power washer but we’ve found that the only thing that really gets out the dark oil spots is Kenny’s muscles.  Ha.  Lucky him.

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

Want a fun before and after?  This is what we started with..

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

And this is what it looks like now.  Ahhh!  The best right!?  He was SO speaking my love language scrubbing that floor.  I guess I’ll keep him around a little longer. ;)

Ok.. fun news for my fashion loving friends!  I bought this cute floral blouse last spring and it has honestly been one of my favorite summer tops.  It sold out so quickly and I always get questions about it.  The same top with a slightly different floral pattern is back in stock!

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

{floral flutter sleeve top/similar pink jeans/teardrop earrings/similar wedges here (love these!) and here}

I snatched it up in two colors so quickly!  Worth it if I even wear them half as much as I’ve worn my original!  I love it because it’s so lightweight for summer and the flutter sleeves and tassel tie in the front add such pretty details.  My pink AG jeans aren’t in stock anymore, but I found some other fun pink pants I’ll link below.  A fun way to mix things up this time of year!  This is the top in blue.

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

And this is the same top in white.  So cute!  It’s also in stock in solid colors if you prefer that over the floral look.

Cute pink jean options:

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

I tried the white floral top on with jeans to share because it gives it a totally different look.  It’s so cute with jean shorts too!  I’d show you but my legs are way too pale for shorts at the moment.

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

Speaking of pale legs I actually bought this Loving Tan self tanning spray and application mitt to try.  Have any of you tried this tanner?  I’ve been hearing good things about it for years!  It’s supposed to look very natural and dry quickly.  It costs more than the $7 tanning lotion I usually use in the summer, but my girls always think my legs look a little orangish with my other lotion so I’m hoping this gives me more of a realistic tan.  I’m actually not shooting for tan.  Just a slightly darker white version of my incredibly pale skin would work. ;)  I’ll report back after I try it and let you know what I think!

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

{Puff Sleeve Crepe Top/Noor wedge sandal/teardrop earrings/AG jeans}

I wore this green top this week and got so many questions about it in IG stories.  Isn’t it pretty!?  The neckline!  I also love that it’s fitted but not tight.  It’s the perfect length so you can do a little front tuck like I always do or you can wear it out.  It would also be so cute tucked in with a skirt (if we ever have a reason to dress up in a skirt again!).  This same top also comes in a pretty blue, pink and red.  The earrings I’m wearing in every picture are my new favorites.  LOVE these teardrops!  They are the perfect go-to earring that looks good with everything.

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

{ruffle tie neck top}

All of these tops are CeCe blouses and I’ve mentioned before that they are my favorite for pretty spring/summer blouses when I want to look a little more dressed up than my usually tee and joggers.  There are so many cute CeCe blouses on sale right now!

Here are a couple more favorites I’ve had for a while and just haven’t shared yet..

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

{ruffle sleeve crepe blouse}

Love the sleeves and buttons on this one.  It comes in lots of colors and is 50% off!

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

{geo print flutter sleeve blouse}

I love the neck tie on this one.  Aren’t these blouses the cutest!?  Some of them don’t have 5 star reviews and I honestly don’t know why.  I give them all 5 stars!  They are great quality and always a good fit.  I always wash them on a delicate cycle and hang them to dry and even the CeCe blouses I’ve had for years still look like new.  Like I said before.. my favorite brand for dressy tops!

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

Same top in green!  Because we all know I don’t have enough green in my closet. ;)

Favorite Summer Blouses (Sunny Side Up)

Thought I’d share my pretty summer hydrangeas since I was taking a pic of my new self tanner anyway!  I feel like fresh flowers (either from the grocery store or the yard) in a pretty glass jar or vase is the BEST decor you can add to your home for summer.  The right glass vase with some pretty flowers just elevates any room!  I rounded up some of my favorite clear glass vases below!  They are worth every penny in my book because they never go out of style and I use them year after year.

I finally got all of my patio furniture and outdoor areas clean and ready for summer this week!  I snapped this with my phone last night after the kids were done swimming.  I’ve had a lot of questions lately about how I wash my outdoor furniture cushions so I’ll share that in a post soon!

My white iceberg roses are all blooming.  Such a beautiful time of year!  I’m so grateful for the sunshine right now.  It just makes life feel less heavy doesn’t it!?  Like anything is possible.  I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy as things start to slowly open back up again.  We are still staying put at home (aside from the occasional grocery store and take out food run!).  Addison just has two more weeks of school and El and Kole get out a couple of weeks after her so we’re holding on and doing the best we can with all things Zoom for one more month!  I’m so grateful for their teachers and all they’ve done to keep things moving under such crazy circumstances this year.  Who would have ever thought this is what our April and May would look like?  You have all been in my thoughts and prayers and I hope that if you’re struggling with the current situation things turn around for you soon.  One day at a time right?  That’s all we can do.  That and spend some time in the sunshine. :)

This was my favorite picture from the week I snapped on one of our evening hikes.  Love my boys.

Enjoy your Friday!  I have big plans for candles and a hot bubble bath Friday night and I can’t wait.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{faux pink peonies/white jars/cutting boards here, here & similar here/navy rugs/rug pads/marble tray/faux plant here & here/silver pendants/gray vase/similar bowl}

Alright.. let’s wrap this kitchen organization up today!  Actually.. I don’t know.  It’s kind of a fun topic for me.  I’m not so sure I want it to end. ;)

This is the 3rd post of what turned into a mini series on my kitchen organization.  If you missed either of the first 2 posts you can check them out here:

KITCHEN ORGANIZATION POST 1

KITCHEN ORGANIZATION POST 2

(All kitchen sources are linked at the end of this post!  I also updated my favorite things page.  A lot of my favorites are marked down!)

In my last post I shared the island cabinets across from the cooktop so today we are starting with the backside!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The cabinet on the left (if you’re facing this side of the island) holds some of my cleaning supplies.  I know.. I have a crazy amount of Meyers counter sprays and dish soap!  That’s because I’ve done collaborations with Grove for my blog so they sent me a lot.  (This was after sharing some with friends!)  I love Meyers multi-surface cleaners and counter sprays!  Recently I’ve been using the lavender a lot. :)  I also love this Screen Mom cleaner for our computers and TV screens, etc.  I keep the rest of my cleaning supplies in my stair closet and a few things in bathrooms where I use them.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

I designed this middle section of the island to look like three drawers but it’s actually not!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

It’s one tall cabinet that opens to the right.  I’m tricky like that. ;)  I didn’t really need more drawer space but I thought the look of drawers added some visual interest.  I have a hook in this cabinet that I used to use to hold all of my reusable shopping bags but now I keep most of them in my car.  It also holds two little stools in a stool stand.  We use these stools every day!  I’m short so I always need them to reach things in my kitchen.  Kole uses them all the time to reach the counter and help me cook things and I also use them when I’m taking pictures with my tripod.  Short people need step stools nearby. ;)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The cabinet to the right is just extra storage and since I’ve been on a cleaning frenzy it’s nice and bare at the moment!  Just holding a few extra OXO containers for the pantry and my favorite drink dispenser.  Ready to pull it out for warm weather and outdoor dinners!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Island cupboards open..

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

and closed.

I have to say that I learned a very valuable lesson when we moved into this house.  I had always lived in small apartments and a much smaller home before we built this house and I had to work really hard to purge often so that I could stay organized.  I remember thinking “if I only had more space..  it would be so easy to keep things organized!”  Then we moved into this home.  A larger home that I had designed myself with storage in mind and the first few of years living in this home I was the most unorganized I’ve ever been.  I had so much space for things!  So things filled up all the space.  Then I spent too much time moving all of our endless stuff around trying to compartmentalize it and failing miserably.  I finally realized (or maybe just finally remembered!) that the key to staying organized isn’t about having more space.  It might make some things easier, but the real secret to keeping your home organized?  LESS STUFF.  It just is.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Which brings me to the last section of my kitchen – the cupboards and drawers in this second island.  I never planned on having storage in this island (we really didn’t need it) but my architect convinced me to add it because we might as well use the space inside this island that was going to be here anyway.  In some ways I wish these were all fake cupboards and drawers because this island constantly becomes a dumping ground!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

My architect also convinced me to put in a warming drawer.  I knew I wouldn’t use it much.  I remember joking with him about “what would I use it for?  To warm up my kids chicken nuggets for dinner?” ;)  I’ve used it a few times for our family and it has come in handy a few times when we’ve had catered events at the house for my husband’s office, but other than that not so much.  If Kenny isn’t home in time for dinner it usually means he’s eating out with clients so there’s never a time I make something and want to keep it warm for later.  In my opinion it’s something you could do without in a kitchen remodel/build.  I’d put your money towards two dishwashers instead! ;)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The drawer below this holds our cords.  I FINALLY got this space cleaned out and am determined to keep it this way!  The angels were singing when they saw this one finally organized. :)  I have to share the before’s of this one quick..

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

See what I mean by the danger of having too much storage space?  To just fill it with junk!?  What even WAS this mess!?  A dumping ground for cords and random electronic items.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The trick to staying organized?  Get rid of what you don’t use or love.  This is all we really need to keep in this drawer.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{organizers here and here}

Once this drawer was only full of the items we really needed to keep I rounded up some organizers I already had on hand.  Two containers from a set of fridge organizers I had (these big bins work better for me here than in the fridge!) and another random organizer with three long compartments to hold our cords and chargers.  Wow.. such a difference!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The top drawer on the right is our beloved junk drawer.  These expandable organizers have made it so easy for me to keep it looking like this!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The cupboard below our junk drawer I’ve been using to keep games and books, etc. for the kids.  Mostly Kole’s stuff that we pull out when we have an “I’m bored” moment. :)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The cupboard on the far left was full of Addison’s slime stuff but I have very happy news (for me!).  She is finally growing tired of the slime and moving on to other things.  Thank goodness!  I never thought this day would come.  I want to cry happy tears every time I think about it.  We recently cleaned this cupboard out and tossed most of the items that were here.  We kept a few things in case she ever changes her mind, but I have a feeling the rest of the slime supplies will slowly disappear.  Sometimes things like that happen in our house.

It’s a mystery that will remain unsolved.

;)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

So that is how our second kitchen island is organized!  You might notice that I didn’t share the top left drawer.  When we moved into this house my husband asked if he could have one drawer to hold his random items that I wouldn’t touch.  A drawer I wouldn’t sort through, organize, label or compartmentalize.  One I would just leave unattended.  It was a tough sell, but I reluctantly gave him his beloved messy drawer.  I have to just not open it.  Because it bugs me.

And I want to sort through, organize, label and compartmentalize everything in it.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Second island closed and clean!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

We have one other small section of the kitchen for storage that wraps around the perimeter.  The bottom drawer and cupboard on the left don’t open and are just for looks because of the three drawers on the front side of them.  The top three mini drawers are currently empty but I’ve used them before for school supplies when kids are working at the kitchen table.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

I never took a pic of the inside of the little drawers when I used them for school supplies, but I found this pic I have of one of the Better Homes and Gardens magazine features of my organized kitchen and it shows them open.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The top right drawer holds our sunscreen and pool remote.  This is right by the french doors that lead to our yard and pool.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The cupboard below used to hold Addison’s slime.  Unlike her dad she doesn’t mind if I take charge and organize her stuff. ;)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Right now I’m using it to hold my small decorative mugs and bowls.

Did I mention that I’m so happy Addison is done with the slime? :)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Whew!  That wraps up my kitchen organization!  I hope this fun little miniseries gave you a few ideas for your kitchen!  I organized most of this space by just spending 15 minutes a day.  A drawer here.. a cupboard there.  Feels so good to finally have it complete!

Now time to finish up my closet.  Send prayers!  For some reason cooking accessories are a lot easier for me to part with than shoes and clothes.

;)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{faux pink peonies/white jars/cutting boards here, here & similar here/navy rugs/rug pads/marble tray/faux plant here & here/silver pendants/navy & gold pendant}

Happy Saturday friends!  I’m sharing more of my organized kitchen today!  I thought this would be a 2 post deal but apparently I take too many pictures (especially when it comes to organized spaces!) so it has now turned into a 3 post deal.  Are you surprised?

I didn’t think so. :)

If you missed my first organized kitchen post you can find it HERE.  I also shared often asked kitchen details in that post (counters, paint, floors, etc).  Today we are moving around the perimeter of my kitchen and then starting to tour the storage in one of my islands.  Let the tour begin!  Or should I say continue..

(All kitchen sources and some fun weekend sales are linked at the end of the post!  A lot of my favorite things are marked down this weekend!)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

We knew we wanted to entertain a lot in this kitchen so I added two trash pullouts (with two trash cans in each) in the design.  One set is in my first island that we use daily and then we have this set that we mostly just use when we have parties/people over and need more trash cans!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

I labeled them so people could easily tell which to use for RECYCLE..

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

and FOOD.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

When the trash pullout is closed you can open these lower cupboards that I use for our mixing bowls and strainers.  You might remember me mentioning how crooked this top shelf is when I first shared the before of this cupboard (you can see how bad it’s slanting!).  It has been driving me crazy for a while and my carpenter was just about to fix it when the stay at home order hit so we’re living with it like this a little longer.  :)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{silverware organizers herehere or here}

The drawer above it holds our silverware.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The upper cabinets above our silverware drawer hold our every day dishes.  I bought this Cambria Stoneware Dinnerware Set in Stone over a year ago for my birthday and I’ve loved it!  Beautiful, durable dishes that have worked great for both every day and special occasions.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The the cabinet to the right holds our every day mugs and glasses.  I’ve been asked why I have my glasses turned upside down and the mugs facing up.  There’s a great reason for this.

It just felt right to place them that way.  Ha.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Here’s a shot of this section with some of the cabinets open.  (If you couldn’t tell how bad that bowl shelf was sagging you can now!) ;)  I have two sinks in my kitchen and a dishwasher next to each sink.  I wasn’t sure when we designed the kitchen if I would love having two dishwashers or not.  Six years later I absolutely LOVE having two.  I definitely use one more than the other, but at least every other day I’m using both.  If you are building or remodeling and have a big family or entertain a lot I would absolutely recommend two dishwashers if it works with your design and budget.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{pink peonies/stripe hand towel/navy rugs/rug pads/navy & gold pendant/gold mirror tray/similar scalloped plates/Cambria dishes/ceramic bloom vase}

Let’s look inside everything in this little section!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

We have our filtered water system under our sinks so I just use this cupboard to store dishwasher soap and hand soap.  We have Thermador appliances and I was told that Finish is the best detergent to use with a Thermador dishwasher so that’s what I use!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Moving to the 3 drawers to the right of our dishwasher.  I didn’t photograph the first drawer because it just holds Addison’s Asthma medication and inhalers.  This second drawer is our official “kid drawer.”  Cheap, plastic cups, bowls and plates that they use when they are fixing themselves a snack.  It’s kind of funny to me because I started this “kid drawer” in our previous house when my kids were little.  I wanted them to be able to reach their own UNBREAKABLE dishes.  It doesn’t make as much sense now that my kids are older, but they like it and it sort of stuck so we still have a childproof kid drawer.  For my teenagers.  Ha. ;)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The bottom drawer is for our water bottles.  (Hydroflask and Swell)  The small containers hold my husband’s cooling towels and stuff he uses when he exercises.  I mentioned this in my first organized kitchen post – we have a lot of storage space in this kitchen (something I worked into the design when we built our home after years of living in small kitchens with limited storage!) so items are more spread out and organized differently than I would organize them if that weren’t the case.  This is one example of that.  I would never have a drawer of just water bottles if we were short on space.  In my previous smaller kitchen I used something similar to this organizer.  A great option if you want to keep them in your pantry or a cupboard and save space!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Nice and organized!  I even got all of our dishes washed for these pictures so I could show you empty dishwashers.  NOT an easy task.  If that doesn’t show you all how much you mean to me I don’t know what will. ;)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Ok.. island time!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

These are our most used every day trash cans.  I have labels on the top of the grey cabinet front that show RECYCLE and FOOD.  One of my favorite features I added to our kitchen design is this pull out cutting board over the trash.  I love it!  I chop vegetables and food on this and then just slide the trash right off.  It’s the little things. :)

There is a small drawer below the cutting board that I use to hold my dish brushes and sponges and odds and ends.  I use the full circle dish brushes and love them!  I just use small porcelain plates to hold them.  (Similar plate here.)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

I don’t store much under this sink because our filtered water stuff takes up so much room.  Just dish soap and then a little hook on the door for a hand towel.  This is our most used dishwasher.  I’m surprised it hasn’t just shut down on me I’ve used it so much the past month!  Anyone else doing an insane amount of dishes with everyone home?  Or is this everyone’s normal and just a shock to me because we usually incorporate a little more take-out in our menu? ;)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

I took this picture to show the location of the 2 dishwashers.  Both empty!  It’s a modern day miracle!  And will never happen again.  I love you all and you’re welcome.

Ok.. that wraps up post 2 on my kitchen organization!  I’ll be back very soon with the last post in what has now become a mini series.  I’m sorry if my picture overload is putting you to sleep!

Clearly kitchen organization is a topic I’m passionate about.  I’m hoping a few of you feel the same way.

You too!?

I knew I loved you guys.  Maybe I’ll empty both dishwashers for you all again soon.  Give me some time to think about it.

{Shouldered Clear Glass Vase/Similar Bowl here or here}

So my organized kitchen part two post is taking me FOREVER to finish.  Too many organized drawers.. too many pictures of said organized drawers. ;)  While I’m finishing it up I thought we’d talk about something else fun.  Mother’s Day gift ideas!  And lilacs!  I found these lilacs at the grocery store (first time I’ve seen them there!) and they have been such a pick me up this week.  Well worth the $12 they cost me!  I put them in a favorite vase and they made my whole kitchen feel summer ready.

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

The vase they are in is a favorite that’s on sale and looks good with so many different types of flowers.  Gorgeous with tulips!

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and I’m so excited about my round-up of gift ideas this year because they are all things I would absolutely LOVE!  I didn’t include my new summer slippers I shared yesterday in my cozy at home fashion post, but they would also make a fun gift for any mom.  I was so happy to hear from several of you that you splurged on a pair for yourself!  Your feet will thank you and I hope you love them as much as I have. :)

Mother's Day Gift Ideas (Sunny Side Up)

1 – Alphabet Jewelry Catchall – Ellie bought me this cute jewelry tray for Christmas and I’ve loved it!  I actually keep it on my office desk to hold random office supplies.  It looks so stylish with the gold trim and I love that you can personalize it.

2 – Artificial Vase and Flowers – Real flowers are always a thoughtful gift, but this cute and inexpensive vase and faux flowers would last a lot longer!

3 – Grace Body Wash/Bubble Bath – A long time favorite of mine!  I especially love it for bubble baths.

4 – Cookbook Stand – With all of us home and cooking more I thought this cookbook stand would make such a cute gift!  I looked at so many options but loved this one the most because it has a clear acrylic panel that protects your cookbook from spills and splashes.  Would be so cute to give as a gift with a favorite cookbook or recipe!

5 – Knitted Sofa Throw – Ok.. seriously so excited about landing on this cute throw!  It comes in 2 sizes and LOTS of colors and is only $24!  Throws always make nice gifts and this is a beautiful option for summer!

6 – Rose Deep Hydration Ritual Set – I would love this!  I love Fresh and this deep hydration set would be a perfect way to pamper any mom for Mother’s Day!  (hint hint kids and Kenny..) :)

7 – Healdsburg Bath Collection – I have these beautiful fringe tassel towels in my powder bathroom and have absolutely loved them.  They are such a nice set and would make a beautiful gift!  (Plus they are 20% off right now!)

8 – Pink purse – Ok.. the cute purse I pictured above sold out before I could get this collage posted!  Here are some other fun options if you think your mom would love a new handbag!  Perry Leather Satchel/Amelia Leather Tote/Faux Leather Crossbody Bag.

9 – Seagrass Tiered Stand – I love this tiered stand for fruit!  Would double as perfect decor on a kitchen counter.

10 – Havaianas Slim Flip Flops –  LONG time favorite flip flops.  They come in so many cute colors and are a great price right now!

11 – Magnolia Table Volume 2 –  This cookbook (part two to this cookbook) looks amazing!  A fun gift to go with the cute cookbook stand (#4).

12 – Soft Cotton Short Robe – This robe looks so perfect for summer!  I love thin, lightweight robes like this to toss on after the shower while I do my hair and get ready.  Comes in lots of colors and would make a perfect Mother’s Day gift with a pair of my favorite house shoes.  Pajamas also make a fun gift and I shared some cute sets in yesterday’s fashion post.  It’s a good time to be comfy! :)

So is it just me or do you want everything on this list!?  Shopping for my mom is so easy because I always just pick out things I would love.  Then I hope she’ll be in the mood to share. ;)

Happy Mother’s Day shopping everyone!  I hope my post gave you a few fun ideas!  Remind the dads in your life that kids won’t be in school making cute cards for mom this year.

Pressure is on dads.  Don’t let us down. ;)

Happy Monday friends!  Taking a quick break from my organized kitchen tour to share some pics of what I’ve been wearing lately.  While this whole stay at home situation has been challenging in so many ways I can’t say that I’ve minded my wardrobe!  Casual and athletic wear are my favorite and if I could pick one thing to wear every day it would be joggers.  So wish granted there. ;)  So many stores are having crazy good sales on comfy clothes and I am here for it!  I’m sharing a few of my recent favorites today and if it helps you find something cozy to wear that you love too then mission accomplished. :)

{Tie-Dye Sweatshirt/Vuori joggers/pink slippers here or here}

This tie-dye sweatshirt is the comfiest!  Really cute fit.  It kind of makes me laugh that tie-dye is all the rage right now.  I feel like I’m back in middle school!  My feet were getting so sore walking around on my wood floors all day (my Ugg slippers I’ve been wearing since November are too hot for Spring!)  I did some research and ordered two new pairs of slippers that would work for cooler temps and oh my word.. my feet are now in heaven!  The first pair are these cute Koolaburra slippers (also by Ugg) that come in 3 colors and are so comfy!  They have a thick sole so they would also be perfect to wear out in the yard.  You can find them here or here.

Fashion - cozy at home (Sunny Side Up)

The second pair are these memory foam flip flops.  Oh my word!  I’m seriously walking on a cloud in these all day!  These are different from the first pair because the soles aren’t as hard.. just honestly the softest thing your feet will ever feel.  They also come in lots of colors are are perfect for warmer temps!  (They fit true to size.. I’m a 7 1/2 and am wearing the 7/8)  I’ve also been living in all of my graphic tees (because what compliments joggers better than a good graphic tee!?).  This cute pineapple top from Anthro sold out, but below are other graphic tees I love and most of them are on sale!

Fashion - cozy at home (Sunny Side Up)

My flip flop slippers are so good that they kept disappearing because a certain someone was stealing them all day.  I finally just bought her her own pair so I could have mine back!

Fashion - cozy at home (Sunny Side Up)

I think I wore this be comfy Be Free graphic tee two days in a row last week but nobody seemed to mind.  Anything goes right now right?  I will say that while I love dressing in comfy clothes I do feel better when I do my hair and make-up.  I’ll skip a day or two and then I just start to feel lousy.  I’m learning a lot about myself through this situation and how easily my mood is effected by certain things.  Getting ready for the day (even if I just spend 10-15 minutes on hair/makeup) just makes me happier and more productive.  When I look better I FEEL better and right now with all of the uncertainty we are all facing I just want to feel as good as I possibly can.  I want to be my best self for my husband and for my kids.  And for me.  I owe that to myself too. :)

Have any of you noticed that?  Or other things that are triggering your mood and either making you feel worse or helping you feel better?

Fashion - cozy at home (Sunny Side Up)

I was wearing it this weekend when I made my first attempt at cutting Kole’s hair.  I just couldn’t let it go one more day!  He was skeptical and had every right to be.  Let’s just say that while his hair is now out of his eyes I wouldn’t say it looks any better.

I think I’ll stick to blogging.  Ha.

Fashion - cozy at home (Sunny Side Up)

{Stella Shimmer Striped Hoodie/my favorite leggings are these and these/Adidas Flashback Sneakers}

Hoodies are another favorite go-to for me.  Even in the summer when it’s hot during the day our evenings are cool on the coast so I always have a hoodie or jacket with me!  Here are a few favorites I’ve been looking at from several different places at different price points.. all so cute!

Fashion - cozy at home (Sunny Side Up)

{Noor Wedge Sandal/Paige Jeans/similar Tory Burch purse}

I’ve been dressed in “real clothes” twice the past two weeks (both times for a huge outing to the grocery store.. ha).  I wanted to wear my new wedges.  They are such a great price right now!  Plus it felt good to put on jeans too.  Although I took them off and put my joggers back on as soon as I got home. :)

Fashion - cozy at home (Sunny Side Up)

For my next big outing I wore this cute mock neck puff sleeve green sweater I just got in the mail.  It’s darling for Spring and on sale for just $25!  My earrings (that are hidden by my hair!) are a recent purchase too and so cute.  They are these large textured tear drop earrings.  I wear tear drop gold earrings like this almost daily (when things are normal!).  I’ve found they are perfect for every day casual wear when you want to look put together but you aren’t getting too dressed up.

Fashion - cozy at home (Sunny Side Up)

{Zip front hoodie/my favorite leggings are these and these/Grandpro Rally Sneaker}

Another recent favorite is this Vuori zip front hoodie that has been perfect for our every day walks.  (Sometimes we’re walking twice a day just to get out of the house and mix things up!)  Vuori is one of my favorite brands.  I have several pairs of their leggings and other athletic wear and love it all.  Really nice quality clothes that have a great fit.  I also got these cute white and gold Cole Haan Sneakers on sale.  So comfortable!

Fashion - cozy at home (Sunny Side Up)

This jacket is lightweight so perfect for Spring/Summer and fitted but not tight.  A lot of Vuori clothes have stripes on the drawstring. (You can see it on the joggers I was wearing in the first few pics!)  Love that. :)

Fashion - cozy at home (Sunny Side Up)

{Paradise Pajama Top/pink slippers here or here}

Of course pjs are on repeat around here too.  Nothing like a cute set that you can feel justified wearing all day.  Or is it just me who has no problem doing my hair and make-up and then getting “dressed” in pajamas?

Just me?

I guess I can live with that. :)

Linking a few favorite pj sets (any of them would make a perfect gift for Mother’s Day!), favorite joggers and all post sources below.  I’ll be back soon with more organized drawers!  We’re going to have fun this week. :)

My Organized Kitchen (Part 1)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{faux pink peonies/white jars/cutting boards here, here & similar here/navy rugs/rug pads/marble tray/faux plant here & here/silver pendants/gray vase/similar bowl}

Happy Friday everyone!  I’m sharing part 1 of my organized kitchen today.  Woot woot!  A few things!  First, I’m breaking this up into two posts (just like I did with my organized office) because I’m sharing so many pictures!  I don’t want to break the internet or put you to sleep. ;)  Part 2 is coming soon!  Second, if you’ve been with me a while you’ve already seen a lot of these organized drawers and cupboards so I’m apologizing in advance for some repeats.  I’ve wanted to put this post together for a long time so that when people ask about how I organize my kitchen I have everything together in these 2 posts.  I recognize that we have a lot of storage space in this kitchen (something I worked into the design when we built our home after years of living in small kitchens with limited storage!) so items are more spread out and organized differently than I would organize them if that weren’t the case.  My hope is that regardless of the size of your current kitchen it will give you some ideas on how you can organize and make the most of your space.  I also hope this post better shares where things are located for those of you looking for ideas if you are building or remodeling a kitchen.

A few kitchen details: The counters are Quartz (Caeserstone) and I’ve absolutely love them.  The islands are “Organic White” and the perimeter is “Raven.”  My wood floors are custom but you can find more info. about them here.  You can also find a printable of the paint colors I used in my kitchen (and the rest of my house) by subscribing to my blog here.  My sinks are Shaw farmhouse sinks and the faucets are Rohl.  Kitchen decor sources will be linked at the end of my post (affiliate links used).

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{flour/sugar canisters/marble & wood cheese board/similar bowl/faux plant/gingham bowls/Kitchen-aid Pistachio mixer/white terracotta jar/pink peonies}

Let’s start with my little butler’s pantry in the back left corner of my kitchen!  It’s feeling happy for Spring. :)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

I had a lot of miscellaneous kitchen items I wasn’t sure what to do with (KitchenAid and dishwasher components, lids of jars, etc.) so I put them in this left drawer and corralled them in a tray.  (Trays work great in drawers for this sort of thing!  I find most of my trays here.)  I put my flower food packets in two small bowls.  The right drawer holds my nice seasonal kitchen towels.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

In the cupboards below I store larger baking items and all of the lids to my pots and pans.  These pot lid organizers were a major game changer for me!  So nice to free up space for my pans in the pull outs I use to store them, especially since I only use the lids once in a while.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Everything open!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

And everything closed. :)  You can see there is a door to the right of these cupboards and that opens up to our pantry.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{similar framed cork boards here and lots of other options here}

I’ve loved having cork boards in our pantry!  A perfect place to hang my kids’ school work and art and all of the invites, cards, and other miscellaneous items I love seeing daily.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{similar chalkboard here & here/flour & sugar canisters}

This was a recent cell pic I snapped quickly of how our pantry is looking today.  I use the top shelves to store miscellaneous kitchen items and food is on the left and below.   These seagrass baskets are long time favorites of mine for organization and I have them in my bathroom too.  (You can see how my entire bathroom is organized here.)  I also love the OXO containers and have always used them in my various kitchen pantries through the years.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Drawers are all organized with my favorite drawer dividers.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

I also love this Expand A Shelf (in the MEGA size!) for my canned goods.  You can see a full post with more details on my organized pantry here.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Moving on to this section of my kitchen!  I packed a lot of storage on this wall.  The cabinets on the far left are actually our fridge/freezer and then we have our double ovens on the far right.  I also put our micro drawer in this section and have absolutely LOVED having it lower vs. a standard microwave.  I wasn’t sure when I made that decision building but I haven’t regretted it!  It’s perfect for the kids to reach and so easy to just lean over to stir things and then cook them a little longer.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{blender/crockpot/Russell Hobbs toaster/electric can opener/similar kitchen towels}

I store dishes we don’t use every day in the top cabinets and then we have appliance garages below that slide up and back into the wall.  I keep our most used appliances here and have plug outlets behind them so I can pull things out and just use them right where they are on this counter.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{mesh organizers}

The top left drawer holds paper goods.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Magic Bullet Blender, an egg cooker (gave this one to my dad and he loves it), our Cuisinart Belgian Waffle Maker (this is the newest model), Panini Maker, Toastmaster Griddle (newest model).

Below that I store other miscellaneous appliances.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Below our micro drawer I store our garbage bags and reusable grocery bags.  I found this drawer divider for deep drawers and love it in this space!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Everything closed looking sleek and clean..

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

And everything open.. still sleek and clean!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

I store my baking sheets in this organized cupboard with dividers above my ovens.  (You can see the molding we added to the hallway to the right of this pic.. can’t wait until I can get it painted!)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Below my ovens are items we use when we grill and other miscellaneous kitchen items I use but not every day.  (I corralled these items in a tray again.)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Organizing this section of my kitchen was one of my most recent projects and I’m so happy to finally have it done!  Now I smile every time I open these cupboards and drawers.  It took me a while to figure out how to make this space work for us and now that I have I know it will be easy to keep organized.  Organization is so much more than just making items look pretty in drawers.  You have to figure out how to make your spaces work for you.  Finding locations for items and setting them up in a way that will make your life easier every day.  THAT’S the trick!  Once you figure that out, keeping a space organized is easy.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Everything closed!  Nothing scary lurking behind these cupboards and drawers anymore. :)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Moving on to this corner of my kitchen near the cooktop!

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{shelf organizer/marble tray/faux plant}

I keep our medicine, bandaids, first aid items, etc. in this top kitchen cabinet.  Once I bought this 3-tier expandable shelf organizer it was easy to keep our medicine organized!  I labeled bowls at the top to hold smaller items.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{madesmart organizers I used here and similar gray organizers here}

The top drawer is my go-to drawer for cooking!  It holds all of our most used cooking items and measuring cups.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The drawer below that holds all of my dish towels/cloths.  (These are my favorite dish cloths/towels by the way!)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

The bottom drawer holds food storage containers.  I used another clear expandable deep drawer divider to keep my lids separated from their containers in this drawer.  Game changer!  I’m a huge fan of drawer dividers in case you haven’t figured that out yet. :)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

I store all of our pots and pans below our cooktop in these pull-out drawers.  So nice to have the lids out of the way!  These drawers were always so cluttered before I moved the lids.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{kitchen rugs/rug pads}

Then the pull-outs to the sides hold my baking/party supplies and spices.  I was so excited about finally getting these cleaned out I felt like they deserved a post of their own. ;)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

{chrome spice bottles}

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Another section nice and organized.  Feels so good!  Everything open.

Organized Kitchen (Sunny Side Up)

Everything closed!

We still need to move around the perimeter of my kitchen and then there is all of the storage happening in my double islands so stay tuned for part 2 of my organized kitchen!

One more space down!  More than a few more to go. ;)

Organized Spices (Sunny Side Up)

{faux pink peonies/white jars/cutting boards here, here & similar here/navy rugs/rug pads/marble tray/faux plant here & here/silver pendants/navy & gold pendant}

I’ve been looking for some fun new art or something to put on the shelf over my range, but this long time favorite sign just sort of called my name and ended up there instead.  We started off the week all feeling a little down (relating a tad too much to Bill Murray in Groundhog Day!) so I thought this reminder might help.  It’s so good to be home. :)  I normally wouldn’t put flowers up so high (even though they are fake and don’t need to be watered!) but I was craving a pop of color.  This little display cheered me up immensely!

Organized Spices (Sunny Side Up)

Want to know something else that is cheering me up immensely?  My kitchen is completely organized.  I repeat!  My kitchen is completely organized!  Every cupboard.  Every drawer.  I’m pretty sure this is the first time since we moved into this house over six years ago that everything in my kitchen has been organized ALL AT ONCE.  Turns out I can get a lot done around here when I’m not spending six hours a day in my car driving my kids around.

Who knew?  ;)

Organized Spices (Sunny Side Up)

I took pictures of how everything is organized and will be sharing it all soon, but first I wanted to share my organized spices because it felt so good to get that little project checked off my list!

Organized Spices (Sunny Side Up)

One of my favorite features in our kitchen are these pull-out spice cabinets.  It’s so nice to have this extra storage right by the cooktop!

Organized Spices (Sunny Side Up)

Maybe if I was a major chef both cupboards would be full of spices, but since I’m just a major chef in training (ha) I use one of them to hold baking supplies.  My flour, sugar and main baking ingredients are all in my pantry, but I use this pull-out cupboard for the fun little stuff like cupcake sprinkles and liners, food coloring, candles and cake mix.  It’s kind of the party spot of the kitchen. :)

Organized Spices (Sunny Side Up)

The other cupboard holds all of my spices, cooking spray, EVOO, etc.  I bought this chrome bottle spice rack years ago just to use the little bottles and I still love them for most of my commonly used spices.  I used my trusty label maker to label them!  (I’ve had my label maker for years but the price on it has gone up and if I was getting a new one I’ve heard great things about this label maker for just $20!)  Some spices I prefer to keep in their original packaging because they have instructions or things written on them I want to be able to refer to.

Organized Spices (Sunny Side Up)

These weren’t too messy to begin with but I needed to wipe down the shelves and I was hanging on to a lot of things that had expired!  A few spices dated back to 2017.. oops!  Ha.  I replaced the spices I reach for often and just tossed the ones we don’t really use anymore.  So nice to have only what we use in these cupboards and everything up to date!

As a major chef in training this was a critical step.

In my previous house (which was short on space) I used this expandable spice organizer in one of my kitchen cupboards to store and organize my spices.  I’ve linked some other fun options below if you’re ready to take on this fun and easy project too.  Since I’ve been watching Julie & Julia on repeat (one of my all time favorites because I relate so much as a blogger AND a major chef in training) I’ll leave you with..

bon appetit!

As a major chef in training we repeat this often.

It’s just what we do.

;)
