Spring Family Room Updates

Spring Family Room (Sunny Side Up)

Home again!  We’re back from Maui.  Flew in late tonight and I’m still on island time which is why I’m feeling pretty good sitting on this exact couch and writing this post after 1:30 am.  When you read this I’ll most likely be a sleep deprived walking zombie working on my never ending to-do list that includes everything I put off last week plus unpacking, laundry, groceries, etc.  The Monday after a vacation is always a treat isn’t it?  But so worth it.  It felt surreal to get away and take a little break from our routine after a year of being so homebound.  None of us are ready to be back!  I still haven’t shared a Maui tips post and I’m hoping to get to that done this spring/summer for those of you who have asked for it.  It’s definitely one of our family’s favorite places to relax and spend time together and I know many of you who have been there love it as much as we do!

For now I’m sharing a few pics of the current state of my family room.  I snapped these pics quick before our trip.. just a few simple changes in this space since last spring!

Time to welcome the sunshine!  I love this time of year.

The main change is happening on my “too big to figure out how to style” mantel.  It has a new look for spring!  I ordered this gold arched metal framed mirror in October and it came in February.  I put it up on my mantel in March and am finally sharing pictures in April.

I may drive fast but that’s pretty much where speed ends for me. :)

We have this same mirror in the large leaner size in black in our hallway and I’ve absolutely loved it.  (I could only find night time cell pics of it.. I need to take some during the day!)  This was one of those purchases I thought about for a long time before I pulled the trigger and now have no regrets!

I looked at a lot of different mirrors and art and other options for this fireplace but just kept coming back to this same gold mirror.  Not uncommon for me to buy doubles of things I really love.  Not news to any of you. :)  I’m not quite ready to take down my brass lanterns I put up during the holidays.  The flickering candles still come on automatically around 5 pm every night and give such a nice glow!  I think I’ll leave them up all year.  I added a basket on the right for some spring vibes.  Keeping it simple because I have several items on my console table next to this fireplace.

This console table is looking a little french country to me but I’m not mad about it!  Slightly more feminine for spring and summer. :)

I’ve had the sign for years from Home Goods but felt like I needed something next to it.  I found this pretty print on-line and love it near the lilacs!  A gold frame from Target to hold it for the win and now all feels right in the world!

Or at least on my console table.  Baby steps. :)

A little spring tour to kick off our Monday!  I hope you enjoyed it and I hope your week is off to a great start.  If you’re joining me in my organizing challenge it’s paper week!  I’ll be back soon to discuss all things paper organization.  A favorite topic of mine!

Spring decorating and paper organization.  Maybe it’s not so bad to be back home in my routine after all.

:)

  1. Welcome home, Erin! Happy to know you all made it back safe and sound. :) Your living room looks lovely. Very comfy and inviting. Your mantle is pretty and I like the mirror you added. The console table is lovely, too. Your space has lots of hygge with the lighting and the blankets and pillows, along with some natural elements. Good luck as you ease (?) back into normal life this week. :)

    1. Thank you so much Jeanne! I’m so happy you like it! And thanks for wishing me luck with reentry. I’m feeling it today big time.. ha. ;) xo

  2. I hope you had a fantastic trip! I haven’t been to Maui since before kids, which was 18-20 years ago. My kids would love to go! I can’t wait to hear all about your trip! Your family room drapes are gorgeous, can you provide the source?

  3. Love the post… you’re a beast to crank it out after your flight home ….. you GO girl !!😉 QUESTION: what are COVID restrictions in Hawaii? It doesn’t seem like we’ve heard much about their numbers and how they’ve fared during this “ scamdemic”. ( sorry to interject my personal opinion… 😬)
    Fondly,
    Jodey MacQueen

    1. Thank you Jodey! Feeling beast like today for sure but maybe not how you meant it.. ha. ;) I was curious about things there too! We had to wear masks everywhere but the beach (you can take them off once you’re at your spot at the pool, eating, etc.). The hot tubs at our resort were closed and they didn’t do the mid week cleaning (just dropped off more towels, etc.) but other than that it felt pretty normal! Restaurants were hopping. We had to take a Covid test to go but that was quick and easy. (If you don’t do that you have to do a 10 day quarantine when you arrive which defeats the point of even going!) I was sad to see some of our favorite spots out of business. :( A place we always went for pork and my fudge shop was gone. No doubt businesses there have suffered this year. But it was the busiest I’ve seen Maui in years so hopefully everyone will bounce back now that things are returning to more of a normal!

  4. Welcome home! Glad you were able to have a relaxing getaway with your family. My husband and I have been to Maui several times … love it! One of our favorite activities is to watch the sunrise ☀️ from Haleakalā.

Your family room is so pretty and inviting! The quote on your console table is one of my favorites … ‘together is a beautiful place to be’. ❤️ I am also a fan of the Bliss throws.

    Have a wonderful week!

    1. Sunrise from Haleakala is stunning isn’t it!? Did you bike down the volcano? Kenny and I LOVE that. We are anxiously waiting for Kole to be old enough to take the kids down! Thank you so much Debbie! I’m so happy you love that quote and the bliss throws too! So good. :)

  5. Hi! I would love to hear how you store all of your decorations for the seasons. I want to rotate everything throughout the year but struggle with where to house everything in between. Thank you!

    1. Hi Heather! I store my seasonal decor in two places! I have a close that holds things like vases/small decor that I switch out seasonally. You can see my decor closet in this post:

      https://www.thesunnysideupblog.com/2021/03/closet-organization-tips/

Then I have an attic space upstairs off of our theatre room that holds all of my Fall/Christmas decor and some of my Spring faux flowers. You can see that space in this post:

      I hope that helps! :)

  6. Hi Erin! Love your Family Room! Thanks so much for sharing – will be looking forward to the Maui tips! Cant wait for the paper organization week tips! My home office is the n=most neglected area of our home! WIth a Special Needs kiddo and my own health issues, the papers are definitely piling up! It’s 1/2 items left on my pandemic bucket list (the other is to learn how to bellydance!)
Thank you for the amazing ideas ! I’m pretty OCD (self diagnosed – HA) so my family laughs when I comment that your my secret BFF crush! Rest up so you can keep sharing!

    1. You are the sweetest Veronica! Thank you! No doubt we would be close friends and hang out often if we could my fellow OCD friend! Ha ha.. love it. :) Paper can seriously take over and I’ve been there too! The home office/paper zone is one spot that feels so good to get under control. I love your pandemic bucket list.. thinking I need to join you and add bellydancing to mine! Seriously so much fun. Good luck this week! You’ve got this. :)

  7. HI , So jealous that you are that “close” to Maui to make a quick trip over !! it’s a trek from the E Coast.
Curious about your Jute Pottery Barn rug –LOVE the look but the last Jute I had scared me as it was too rough on the feet for a Living space. Can you tell me what yours is like ? I don’t have small kids but still like something “comfy” underfoot and our climate is a bit cooler here in MD than AZ. If there’s others you would recommend that would give me this look I’d appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

    1. Monica Kenny and I were talking about that very thing on the flight home! It zipped by (under 5 hours) and we were thinking about how Maui would be a lot less appealing if we were East Coasters! Ok.. my PB jute rug is so crazy soft! Not like regular jute rugs at all and that’s why I love it so much. It is the best I’ve found which is why I have two of them! Would totally recommend it. :) I wrote a little more about it in this post I wrote years ago:

      https://www.thesunnysideupblog.com/2015/09/lets-talk-rugs/

  8. Aw man, I wish I knew you were coming, I could have hooked you up ;) I hope you had a great time!

  9. I’m a huge fan of purple lilacs and hydrangeas – the flowers and the scents! And yours are such a beautiful pop of color (overused term? but so accurate!) Need the budget-friendly Target version you showed, but it’s sold out! May need to check Michael’s. Would love to visit Maui – on the bucket list for sure!
