Sunny Side Up Reader Survey (2017)

What a week!  I’m not going to lie, it was rough around here getting back in the swing of things after Christmas break!  Kole started school Tuesday and my girls started school Wednesday and I’d like to say that it has felt good to be back in our routine the past two days, but all I feel right now is.. tired.  The routine is busy and I’m tired.  And we’ve only been going two days!  Ha!  Re-entry.  Never an easy thing.  Plus I have bronchitis.. did I mention that?  I’ve been sick. :(  So that’s where a lot of the tired is coming from I’m sure.  I hope all of you are adjusting better than I have. ;)

Five favorite things that keep me organized

My friends!  It’s time.  What time you ask?  My favorite time I answer.  The time of year when the rest of the world gets an itch to do what I love to do year round.

Time to organize. :)

I’ve got so many projects in the works and fun things to share with you all this year!  But first I’m sharing my top Five Favorite Things that keep me Organized.  My sweet friend Kris of Driven by Decor invited me to join her along with Jennifer of Dimples and Tangles, Pam of Simple Details and Lisa of Shine Your Light for the fun “My Five Favorites” series they host each month.  This month’s theme is Five Favorite Things that keep me Organized.  I’m not going to lie.  This one was tough for me.  Tough to narrow my favorite organizers down to a mere five. ;)  But here they are.. my Five Favorites!  (*affiliate links used)

1 – DREAM DRAWER DIVIDERS

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you know how I feel about dream drawer dividers.  They have been one of my all time favorite organizers for years!  I use them in all of our clothes closets, in my pantry (pantry post is coming!), and in my bathroom drawers (also coming!).  They expand to fit any size of drawer and don’t take up a lot of space.  Such a great way to keep things in their place and make the most of the drawer space you have.  Love them!

We started January with a bang and got to the bottom of the 2 secrets to getting your home organized.  We’ll definitely be talking more about that this January!  Itching to organize around here. :)

Master bedroom mirrors and a recent favorite store

Friends.  I’m so excited for the new year.  I have so much to share with you all!  I’ve been making a lot of progress on a few rooms in our house and one of them is our master bedroom.  It’s not finished yet, but it’s close!  I have spent a lot of time decorating this room because I really want to LOVE every single piece of furniture and decor.  So basically I’m approaching it no different than I have every other room in my house.  If I’m lucky I’ll finish decorating my home in 8-10 years.. just in time for styles to change and for me to get an itch to start all over. ;)

I knew I wanted mirrors over my nightstands and was having a hard time finding the “perfect” mirrors.  I had looked high and low and spent hours searching for the mirrors of my dreams.  I was talking to my designer/friend who has helped me with a few things in my house (she has done all of my custom furniture and drapes) and she suggested that I look on-line at Horchow.  I had heard of Horchow before, but hadn’t spent any time on their site.  Later that night I started scrolling through Horchow’s website and quickly began falling in love with A LOT of items.  They have beautiful furniture and decor.  And then.. all of the sudden.. there they were.  On my computer screen.  “THE ONES.”  The mirrors that at first glance made my heart skip a beat!  Did I do a happy dance?  Why yes.  Yes I did. :)

I bought Horchow’s Pagoda Shaped Mirror.  Two of them for above my nightstands and to say I’m in love would be an understatement.  My master bedroom is part casual/rustic/farmhouse and part tailored/dressy items with a bit of bohemian tossed in. :)  It feels dressy but also casual (a lot like my formal living room) which is a favorite look and style of mine.  Really I’m just buying items I fall in love with and mixing them all together pretending it’s an actual style.  Ha!  I’m good at pretending. ;)

Organizing Christmas Decor

I hope you are all enjoying this week!  The days between Christmas and New Years are some of my favorite days of the year.  For me they are a mix of relaxing with family and thinking about the New Year ahead.  And eating.  Lots of eating.  Because we can all eat what we want and then hit the gym hard with the rest of the world in January, right?  :)  I know a lot of people are itching to take down their Christmas decor as soon as Christmas day is over.  I’m not one of those people!  I would seriously keep my Christmas decor up for six months if I thought I could pull it off.  In fact I told my family all today that next year I might start decorating trees before Halloween.  The holiday season just goes by too quickly for me!  I want those tree lights going year round.  But alas.. at some point it all has to come down.  And when I finally do pull the trigger and start putting things away, something inside me snaps.  And I want every single thing in my house to be clean and organized.

I know you know the feeling. :)

So I start with my Christmas decor and make sure I’m putting it all away as organized as possible.  Today I’m sharing a few ideas for how to organize Christmas decor once it all comes down.  Some of these pics are from our previous house and some I took this year before I decorated for Christmas.

Christmas Night Lights

I have a special post for you all today!  My sweet friend Rachel at Mason de Pax is hosting her annual Christmas Nights Tour.  Time to take a peek of some beautiful homes all lit up at night.  I love this tour because I LOVE Christmas lights!  Who doesn’t!?  I can’t think of anything more beautiful than the glow of soft, twinkling Christmas lights.  They make all of our homes feel so cozy and warm.  If you are visiting from my friend Sarah’s blog Life on Virgina Street welcome!  I’m so happy to have you over. :)

After you pass through our entry our formal living room is the first room you see.  We finished building this home three years ago and this is my first Christmas having a tree in this room.  I have absolutely loved it.  There is nothing like a Christmas tree all lit up at night.

How is everyone doing with just days left before Christmas!?  I can’t say that I’m ready (still so much to do!) but I can say that I am really enjoying having my kids out of school this week.  This week before Christmas with my kids home from school is one of my favorite weeks of the year.  I love having them all to myself to do all things Christmas!  They are my best helpers and sidekicks around here and today I’m sharing a fun way they helped me decorate for the holidays.  Mid November my kids started making Christmas countdown chains and snowflakes.  LOTS of snowflakes.  At one point our family room floor was covered in snowflakes.

Weekend Fashion Round-up!

top-shop-coat-nordstrom
Happy weekend everyone!  Taking a quick break from all the Christmas decor (just a quick one!) to share a few fun recent finds with you today.  Is everyone staying warm!?  It seems like cold temps are happening all over right now.  We are having colder weather than we’ve had here in San Diego in a long time.  Today the high was in the 50’s which is not our norm!  We are all loving it because it FINALLY feels like Christmas in December.  My girls asked me today if it was going to snow.. ha!  Um no.  Our cold weather is short lived and looks like we’ll be in the high 60’s low 70’s by Christmas, but for now we’ll take it. :)  I’m loving my new coat I bought and shared last week and feel like I bought it at the perfect time!  I’ve hardly taken it off this week.

Christmas Front Porch

craftsman-front-porch-2 Well!  We can’t take a Christmas tour of practically every room in my house without including the front porch now can we?  I think not.  And yes!  It’s another fun Christmas tour so aside from my Christmas porch, you’ll also be able to check out other beautiful Christmas porches.  Because who doesn’t love a porch decked for the holidays!?  Anyone?  I think not.  :)

Chris from Just a Girl is hosting a week long “Welcome Home Tour” and I’m thrilled to be joining in the fun.  I’ve met Chris and can honestly say that aside from being such a talented blogger, she is also incredibly down to earth and kind.  And funny!  Like really funny.  She always makes me laugh and I love her personality!  If you are visiting today from Katie at Bower Power welcome!  You can see other rooms I’ve shared that are decorated for Christmas in this post.  And my formal living room here that wasn’t included in that round-up. :)

For today.. on with the porch!

Christmas Formal Living Room (Decked and Styled Home Tour)

Annddd I’m back. :)  Hi everyone!  I’m so excited about today’s post!  I’m joining some of my close friends for the Decked and Styled Home Tour and you are all in for a treat!  Every one of the girls in this tour today have beautiful homes and trust me when I say their posts won’t disappoint!

This is such a fun group.  I feel so lucky to call each of these girls close, personal friends.  Their hearts are as beautiful as their homes!  If you are popping over from Megan’s blog “Honey We’re Home” hello and welcome!  I love Megan and am so happy to have you here!  I also love decorating for Christmas and couldn’t help spreading a bit of Christmas cheer throughout most of the rooms in my house.  Yesterday I shared our powder bathroom Christmas decor along with a link to the rest of the rooms I’ve shared so far.  Today I’m sharing what might be my very favorite room decked for the holidays this year!  My formal living room.  I went a little picture crazy so I’ll try to keep the rambling to a minimum (not always easy for me as most of you know, but I promise to try).  :)

When you walk in our front door and through our entry this is the room that greets you.  When my husband and I were designing our home one of the first things I told my architect was that I did NOT want a formal living room.
formal-living-sunny-side-up
I’m so grateful he didn’t listen to me!  ;)  Because of the way our floor plan turned out this room was going to be our formal dining room at one point.  I didn’t love that so we ended up pushing out my front porch and moving the dining room in its place leaving me with a formal living room after all.  I got over it quickly when I started designing this space and adding french doors, built-ins and white molding galore.  Now this room is one of my favorites!  Especially at Christmas time. :)
