Off to college (summer travel and dorm essentials)

*affiliate links used
Disneyland (Sunny Side Up)

Hello friends! Also hello (and almost good-bye) to August! I’ve missed you all! I’ve missed blogging. Here’s a little (but also sort of long) re-cap of what we’ve been up to. I’m also sharing everything I bought for Ellie’s dorm room for those of you who are also sending kids to college this year or next!

August. It was the best of times.. it was the worst of times. ;) By the end of July summer was winding down with the kids so we decided to make the most of our time together during August.

Disneyland (Sunny Side Up)

We took the kids (and two close friends) ;) to Disneyland and had such a good time. Even waiting in line was fun with this crew. Our family is easily entertained.. ha.

Then the next day we packed up Ellie’s bedroom and she said good-bye to all of her friends in San Diego. Along with laughter and fun lots of tears have been shed this month. :( More on that at the end of this post.

Cabin life (Sunny Side Up)

We traveled to northern Utah and spent some time in this cozy cabin in Sundance. I knew we would be traveling for a couple of weeks and had planned to continue blogging during our time here, but the internet connection was terrible! We had lousy service and I was bummed I couldn’t post. The upside was that we had several days of uninterrupted family time which is always a good thing!

*Thank you to everyone who reached out to make sure we were ok! It meant so much to me that you noticed and missed my posts. I would have announced a little blog break if it was planned so I’m sorry about the crickets with no warning! Summer and travel and life (and bad wi-fi) ;) sort of took over this month.

Cabin life (Sunny Side Up)

Isn’t this just beautiful!? We hiked all over these mountains and watched movies and played games and just relaxed together. My husband and I live by the ocean now, but we both grew up and feel the most at home in places like this. The Utah mountains (especially in the summer!) are truly our happy place and we both dream of owning a cabin someday. Well.. truth. I dream of building or re-modeling and decorating a cabin someday and my husband dreams of napping in one. ;)

summer home (Sunny Side Up)

After some time in Sundance we took Addison to a summer camp for a week with a friend and picked up my nephew (Kole’s bestie) and drove to our hometown in southern Utah. We stayed at this fun vacation rental for a week to spend some time with family.

While Ellie and I got moving on all things college dorm.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

{bath towels/table air fan/power strip surge protector w/ extension cord}

I waited to buy some things for her dorm because I wanted to see what we really needed and had space for, but these are a few things I knew she would need and bought ahead of time. Towels, a small fan, and cord for her phone/computer, etc.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

{favorite sheets/nonstick pan/egg spatula/accent table lamp}

Like her mom El isn’t a big cook :) but she does love eggs for breakfast! I knew she would need her own pan and our favorite egg spatula. We also ordered our favorite Amazon sheets for her bed and this cute lamp for her desk.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

{blue rope lights/clear acrylic jewelry organizer/wastebasket/mattress cover/white comforter}

El has these LED strip lights up in her bedroom at home and loves them so we picked up the blue lights for her dorm. I ordered a garbage can, jewelry box for her earrings, mattress pad/cover, and a white comforter. El picked out some posters of music groups she likes to hang on the wall.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

This acrylic jewelry box ended up having 4 drawers for earrings and two drawers with large spots for bracelets and necklaces. It’s so cute I ordered another one for Addison!

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

{woven and glass soap pump/toothbrush holder/woven tissue cover}

I also picked up this cute soap holder, cup and tissue cover. Not for El but for my bathroom at home.. ha. Couldn’t resist!

After a fun week with family it was time for Kenny and I to divide and conquer. He had to take Addison and Kole back to San Diego to start school. I was staying with El to get her dorm ready. It was time for Kenny and the kids to say good-bye to Ellie and it was a rough night for our family. Addison and Kole are so close to their big sister. We all just cried. And hugged and cried some more. Kole couldn’t get to sleep that night he was sobbing so hard. I laid by him and hugged him and he told me “mom.. this is the saddest I’ve ever been.. it’s just too big.” I told him that we are so lucky that we are such a close family that it feels so big. That we will talk to Ellie every day and see her again before we know it. That everything was going to be ok. But tears were rolling down my cheeks and I was feeling the bigness of it too.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

The next morning Ellie and I woke up with puffy eyes and tried to re-group and get excited about organizing her room. When we pulled up at the building the football team was lined up to help kids move into the dorms. So much fun! They were all pumped up and playing music and tossing bags and suitcases into big bins to take up the elevators. We got everything moved into her room, snapped a couple of pictures and then got to work!

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up){extra large moving bags/luggage}

We ordered these extra large moving bags to move all of her things from San Diego and they were perfect! Strong and durable and easy to carry. We packed a lot into each bag. El is in a dorm with 6 girls and 4 of the rooms are private! One room is shared with 2 girls and then they have a common living area with a couch and a little kitchen. We got on the list early so she was able to get her own room. It’s tiny but so nice and new! I only had a day and a half before I had to head back to San Diego so our goal was to get everything moved in and organized. The decorating could wait! We started decorating but plan on adding some things over the next few months. Ellie is a minimalist and didn’t want much in her room and really it’s so small that it will feel cluttered quickly so we kept things pretty simple! After lots of sweat (it was SO hot), hard work and multiple trips to a near by Target we went from this picture above..

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

to this. We ended up just putting the blue lights around her window and she loves them at night!

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

{white comforter/mattress pad}

Simple white bedding (always a good thing) and we will add an accent pillow or two later. Her floors are beautiful! We didn’t want to cover them much or have a rug that got in the way of the desk chair so we went with this small faux fur rug to just add a little something and give her a soft spot to step on when she wakes up. I also bought her this faux fur blanket to match and use when it cools off.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

We organized her clothes and packed the drawers that came in her room pretty full! I lined up her shoes on top of the drawers.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)We had a little extra space under her bed so we added this white 4-drawer tower for extra storage and this white laundry hamper to hold her bags. The laundry hamper rolls so it’s easy to get in and out of the corner when she needs something.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

{artificial grass plant/natural frame/green frame/green bowl/clear acrylic jewelry organizer}

Her shelf is a work in progress but we found a cute faux plant (I had to give it a haircut to fit!) and a green bowl and a couple of frames we need to get pictures for. We didn’t have another spot for her jewelry box (she didn’t want it on her desk) so up it went! I ordered a step ladder for her so she can reach things easily.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

She has a large wall space between her desk and shelf. We measured it so that we can find something cute for that space. Maybe some art or a wall of pictures. I suggested a bulletin board of some sort but she’s not feeling it so we’re still tossing around ideas.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

Ellie has loved her stuffed animals her whole life and couldn’t leave home without a few that are especially sentimental. :)

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

{water bottle/accent table lamp/table air fan/plant in plant stand/make-up mirror}

Her desk turned out cute with a few essentials! In a month or two she can move the fan (did I mention how hot it was!?).

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

This plant in a plant stand is too cute! She brought her favorite make-up mirror from home. I left that note in her car two years ago before a football game. She put it on her mirror and hasn’t taken it off since. :)

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

It was so hot on moving day (did I mention that? I think I did.) ;) and El loves the sound of a fan at night when she sleeps so we ended up buying this 5-speed tower fan in addition to the small fan on her desk. It’s awesome and I was so grateful to have it on while we were working in her room! It’s going to be perfect for her because it packs a big punch but doesn’t take up much space. She’s planning to leave this fan up all year but will move the desk fan when it cools off.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

We hung some of her posters on the wall above her fan. More posters are coming in the mail so she can cover a lot of that wall with favorite musicians. Blue painters tape for the win once again! :)

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

I bought this cute green striped bag for her laundry. So great because it has straps and can be worn as a backpack when it’s full! Perfect to toss on her back to take when it’s time to do laundry.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

{medium gray W-weave storage basket/half medium gray W-weave storage basket}

Her closet is open to the room and took a few hours to put together but we were so happy when it was done! Hoodies, tops, tanks.. everything is organized. We folded her jeans on the shelf in-between her clothes. She has quite a bit of closet space for a dorm! So nice. I bought some cute gray storage bins to set on top for extra random items.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

Like I said the decor it’s still a work in progress, but we were so happy to get all of her things moved in and at least put away and organized!

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

The girls have some shelf space in their bathroom below the sink and in by their shower so I don’t think she’ll need a caddy to carry bathroom items. I had this plush shag rug as an option for her room that we didn’t use so we put it in the bathroom. I wanted to share it because it’s such a great bathroom rug! Really soft and doesn’t slip. It comes in a gray and pink too. This white will probably get dirty but one nice thing about Target rugs – you can toss most of them in the wash and they come out great!

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

We finished her room and had a couple of hours left to spend together. We cried a lot. And laughed. And hugged. And cried some more. Saying good-bye to my sweet girl was heartbreaking for me.

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

I was literally dropping her off at Kindergarten and blogging about it all 5 minutes ago! I left her dorm and SOBBED. I drove to my parents house that night and then left for San Diego the next morning. My parents walked me out to my car before I left and I was crying and said to them “I’m so sorry I married Kenny and moved to Virginia!” We were all laughing in-between sobs but really – I get it now! How hard it is as a parent when your babies grow up and move out. I waved good-bye and pulled out of the driveway with my mom yelling “drive safe and text us when you get to Barstow! Then call when you get home!” I’m 45 years old and my mom still worries about me driving home safe. I’m worried about Ellie being sad and she is worried about me being sad about Ellie being sad. Moms never stop worrying and loving their kids!

Dorm Essentials (Sunny Side Up)

The drive back to San Diego felt longer than ever and I went through that entire box of tissues. Even my time management podcasts and audible books didn’t cheer me up (a first for me)! I’ve been home now for a few days and I’m still in such a funk. Something just feels off with her gone. I know I just need time. I know she is in such a good place and ready for this. I know she is going to do amazing things. But knowing all of that doesn’t make it hurt any less. It hurts when I pull in to our garage and her car isn’t there. It hurts when I go to the grocery store and remember to get “crunchy” grapes (El doesn’t like them too soft) and then remember I don’t need grapes at all because really she was the only one who ate them. When I check on my kids at night before I go to bed like I have every night since they were born and pass her empty bedroom with the fan turned off. It hurts. There is an ache in my heart and a lump in my throat that just isn’t leaving yet.

I’ve been trying to give myself some grace and just sit in the sadness of it all. This week I’m going to try to do the little things that always help when I’m sad and in a funk. Time outside in the sunshine, exercise, lunch/phone calls with good friends and of course.. organizing, decorating and blogging about it all. As sad as I am you can expect my house to be pretty decked for Fall this year with every drawer in tip top shape! Ha. Really though – organizing and decorating are always the best therapy for me.

To any moms going through this same thing (or to anyone reading who is going through a difficult time) hang in there. We won’t always feel this way! This hard phase of life will pass and get better with time. That doesn’t make it any less hard or sad, but it does help to remember. I wish I could meet you for lunch with a box of tissues and give you a huge hug.

Since we can’t all do that.. let’s get started on that junk drawer.

;)

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

I can’t believe we are nearing the end of July! We must be because this is the time of year my Crepe Myrtle trees start showing off. Isn’t this tree on the side of my backyard stunning this year!? I’ve shared pictures of a different pink Crepe Myrtle tree in my yard in previous years.. sadly that tree has gone into shock and isn’t doing well. I’m trying to save it! This tree must have known I was bummed about it and decided to cheer me up. It has never looked so beautiful! I fell in love with Crepe Myrtle trees when Kenny and I lived on the East Coast and couldn’t wait to plant them in our yard when we built our house. I just can’t get over how beautiful they are when they bloom. I could stare at them all day! But I have children to take care of and other things to photograph to share with all of you so I don’t. ;)

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Sharing a few random home updates today! And a little organization because why not? :) You might remember back in March I bought this cute wicker 3 piece furniture set for my backyard. I mentioned that I originally wanted a larger set for this space, but it sold out so I ordered this set instead. Then the larger set I wanted came back in stock so I bought it. I love this little set but..

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

doesn’t this look so much better here!? Scale! Such a good example of how important scale is when you are putting together a room. This set fills in the space so much better and makes it feel even larger.

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{4 piece wicker furniture set/light blue pillows/navy rug/white garden stool}

Because the furniture took up more room I moved the console table over to the wall by my pool towels and ta-da! Complete. Other than flowers! I added this white garden stool we’ve had for years and I’m going to buy some flowers to set next to the chairs when I have time. Isn’t this the cutest furniture!? I’m still in shock at the price for this entire set! I’ve seen similar single outdoor chairs for triple the price. Definitely my favorite summer purchase this year.

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{towel rack/console table}

My favorite summer purchase of all time? My coat rack turned pool towel holder. But you already knew that. :) I ordered some new pool towels because ours were getting so faded and I love how such a practical thing that we use every day doubles as decor. Always the goal right? Why not make life beautiful?

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Our yard is a busy spot in the summer with lots of friends coming over to swim and after constantly going in and out to get everyone water I finally came up with a better solution! I ordered this 3 gallon beverage dispenser, plastic tumblers, and this round serving bowl. The beverage dispenser has an ice column in the middle so you can keep things cold. Now when friends are coming over to swim I set this out with little bowls for fruit and keep everyone hydrated without 15 trips in and out of the house. Work smarter not harder right!? :) The console table is a perfect spot to set water and snacks because it’s covered (our outdoor table is out in full sun). I’ve loved having this console table for storage too!

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

My little pool storage closet on the side of our house had seen better days. It’s always a mess by mid summer! I took it on this week as one of my 15 minute daily organizing projects.

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

25 minutes later (went a bit over!) it looked like this. Much better! Floats are all in the pool at the moment and then I got rid of things that we weren’t using anymore. Going forward this closet will be for the pool floats, beach boards and chairs and for larger toys. The smaller pool toys I moved to my console!

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

These baskets are perfect to hold all of the squirt guns, goggles and smaller toys.

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

The little set I originally bought? It’s in this cozy corner for now. I might set it out on our front porch at some point, but right now I’m loving it here. We never use these french doors off of our formal living room and this spot has a pretty view of the pool and yard. Kenny and I like to go on a walk or hike in the evenings and then sit out here and chat. :) These blue outdoor throw pillows are so soft and are only $12 right now! I couldn’t resist picking up a few more at that price.

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

One of my goals this summer was to add more seating around our yard. Mission accomplished!

Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

All of the outdoor furniture sets I’ve bought and love are linked below! I have been so impressed with Walmart’s beautiful but affordable options for home lately – both inside and outside.

Organized School Supplies (Sunny Side Up)

Here are a few other home favorites I have from Walmart. Remember this marble end table I recently bought? It started in my family room..

Walmart Home Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{round marble end table}

but landed in my living room. I love it in both places. Such a great little table for the price.

{mainstays white desk/modern gold table lamp/white velvet office chair}

We’ve loved this white desk and velvet chair in Addison’s bedroom (I need to take a current pic w/o the winter art – ha). This corner in her bedroom is on the small side so it was hard to find a desk that would fit! This velvet office chair comes in a pink too. Score on both!

{rattan table lamp}

These rattan lamps in our guest room are beautiful too.

I rounded up a few other favorites I found on-line below! Enjoy your day! It’s almost the weekend. :)

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes)

This post is sponsored by Walmart. All product selections and opinions are my own!
Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

{fridge organization details and sources}

Back to school! It’s coming! Sooner for some of us than others. Our kids usually go back at the very end of August but this year they start school two weeks earlier. I’m bummed because the day Ad and Kole start school is also the first day El can get into her dorm at college. Kenny and I are going to have to divide and conquer with the kids and I don’t want to miss either event! We’re still working out travel details and who is doing what, but in the meantime I’m in full on back to school prep mode over here. That always includes tackling 4 main hot spots in our home and getting back to school clothes for the kids! I found so many fun things for Kole from Walmart this year! And I rounded up cute things for girls at the end of this post. AND I found some fun things for El for college! But first.. my hot spots. The fridge was a big one and I’m thrilled to have that project checked off my list!

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

I always whip my pantry into shape before school starts too.

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

It feels so good to start a new school year with snacks for the kids’ lunches and after school ready to go!

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

We always clean out closets and I had my girls start today. It’s a process. :)

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

Especially this year with El’s closet. (This is Ad’s above.) I knew it would be emotional for me because we are cleaning and starting to pack some of her stuff so I’m having her start and just do a little each day. I’m in denial that she’s leaving soon!

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

Kole’s closet is clean but I need to go through his clothes because so many don’t fit him anymore. I seriously can’t keep up with him he is growing so quickly these days. The last pair of shoes I bought him lasted 4 months and are now too tight!

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

The last hot spot I always clean with the kids is our mudroom. Lockers and shoe drawers get a good deep clean so they are ready for a new school year too!

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

{surf sunset graphic tee/boys mesh shorts}

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

I always stock up on basics from Walmart for Kole before school starts. Simple tees and athletic shorts are all he lives in! This tee comes in a pack of two (he was wearing the other top vacuuming his shoe locker) and these shorts come in a pack of 6!

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

{surf sunset graphic tee/athletic performance shorts}

If the clothes I’m sharing look a little big/long on him that’s because they are. I’m ordering everything for this child in a 14/16 even though he’s 12! The way things are going they’ll be too small for him by Christmas. Ha.

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

{henley fleece hoodie/slim knit denim pants}

We still need to go shoe shopping and most of what I’ve bought for him so far is for the warm months at the beginning of the year, but I did get a few things for when it gets cooler! These slim knit denim pants are a great fit and come in regular and husky. Of course I love the green henley.. Kole does too because it’s soft and comfortable. If clothes are even the tiniest bit itchy they are a no go for this one! (Laughing at his sisters through the french doors – I gave up trying to get a head on smile!)

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

I work hard to make sure Kole is getting  good mix of friend/outside time, camps/activity time and reading/learning time each summer. He works hard at making sure he gets enough iPad and “relax time” each summer.

Somewhere we meet in the middle. #survival

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

{gamer shirt/boys mesh shorts}

Probably why tees like this are always his favorite. Some things never change!

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

{pack of 4 crewneck tees/boys mesh shorts/willow sage 3 piece set/navy outdoor rug/woven blue outdoor throw pillows}

A lot of the clothes I bought are great for summer and he has been wearing them all the past few weeks. It’s warm here through October so our summer clothes are basically our fall clothes and really can be worn all winter too since by “cooler weather” I mean that we go from 78 degrees to a chilly 70. Brr. ;) We can never have enough tees and shorts! This white tee comes in a pack of 4 – white, black and two shades of blue (there are other color options available too). Great basics and perfect to layer under vests, sweaters and jackets if you have a real winter where you live!

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

Getting leaves out of the pool.. one of Kole’s daily summer jobs. :)

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

{harry potter graphic tee/green retro hawkins graphic tee/black stranger things graphic tee/navy fleece zip up hoodie}

I’m a HUGE fan of graphic tees and I love the selection at Walmart. They have so many fun Stranger Things tees! I don’t even let Kole watch Stranger Things but he knows all about the characters because his sisters and mom are obsessed. Ha. That green retro Hawkins tee is my favorite and would be mine if it came in a women’s size/cut! I still might borrow Kole’s even if it doesn’t fit quite right. :)

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

I asked Kole to try on this outfit for a pic and he wasn’t impressed.. came out in sunglasses and gave me this look when I said “smile” and asked how long this little photo session would last.

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

{gildan long sleeved tee/slim knit denim pants}

So I told him he could earn extra iPad time and we would be done quick if he just smiled already and there you go! One shot and done. Ha.

Back to School Prep (organization & clothes) Sunny Side Up

I guess the same tricks that worked when he was in first grade still apply today. ;)

Below are all of the clothes I bought Kole!

Back To School walmart (thesunnysideupblog.com)

1-  denim skirt   2- boot cut jeans   3- t-shirt

4- jacket   5- pajama sleep set   6- rugby dress

7- long sleeve henley top   8- ruffle skirt

How cute are these fun options for girls!? I so miss shopping for mine. They do all of their clothes shopping on their own now which is so nice, but when I see clothes like this I can’t help miss the days I had my girls in matching rainbow pjs and ruffle skirts! I would have bought them everything above in a heartbeat. :)

Walmart Back to School (thesunnysideupblog.com)

1-unicorn dream backpack set   2- large black backpack   3- toy story backpack

4- shark combo set backpack   5- aqua backpack   6- eastsports black backpack

7- blush backpack   8- sparkle unicorn 3-piece set   9- mirabel backpack

Walmart has so many great backpack options! A lot of the solid color backpacks come in multiple colors too.

So many of you have asked me what I’m buying to get Ellie ready for college because you’re sending one off too! We are just starting to order things for her dorm and I will share everything we buy, but for now I’ve just been doing research! I’m talking to all of my friends with college age kids to see what they are using and loving. Walmart also has this awesome dorm checklist that gave me some good ideas too. Below are a few options I have in my on-line cart, but I feel like I need to see her dorm to make final decisions on a few of them. I’ve heard a clip on fan, noise machine and shower caddy are essentials! Storage bins/shelves are great too depending on what kids’ have room for in their dorms. I’m definitely getting the hanging caddy bed organizer! If you have kids in college let me know! What can’t they live without!?

1- hair tool bin   2- clorox wipes   3- clip fan

4- blanket   5- hanging caddy bed organizer   6- sound machine

7- under bed storage bins   8- shower caddy   9- bookshelf

10- mini fridge   11-storage boxes   12- comforter set

Happy back to school prep everyone! Another fun year ahead and I will be ready! Maybe not emotionally stable, but kids’ closets will be clean.

I’ll take it.

Organized Fridge

*This post is sponsored by Walmart. All product selections and opinions are my own!
Organized Fridge (Sunny Side Up)

{clear organizers}

So excited about today’s post! I finally got my fridge organized! Ok.. let’s talk fridge organization quick before I show you my before and after. I’m usually able to keep my fridge mostly clean. Every time I get groceries I do a mini clean out.. toss anything old/expired, wipe off shelves, place new items in their general spot. I’ve never really bought a lot of organizers for my fridge for two reasons. One – we have a Thermador fridge and the shelves aren’t very deep. I’ve struggled to find organizers that would actually fit! Reason Two – I don’t want anything in my fridge that isn’t practical. Sometimes I see fridge bins and organizers and I just know that while they make the fridge look beautiful, I won’t be able to maintain my fridge using them. I think I’ve finally found the perfect organizers that not only fit in my fridge but will also be practical for our family! The Home Edit (love them!) came out with a new line of organizers at Walmart and seriously they are SO GOOD! You can see above that I ordered lots of options to play with. :)

Organized Fridge (Sunny Side Up)

Remember I said I usually keep my fridge mostly clean? Well the past month has been an exception.. ha. :) Summer is taking its toll! We’ve been on the go a lot and I completely stopped maintaining our fridge. When I let areas like my fridge go my family certainly doesn’t pick up the slack! I needed groceries and the fridge was a mess and we have been eating a lot of take out. I was craving healthy food and so ready to give my fridge a deep clean! I bought groceries and then came home and got to work.

An hour later my fridge looked like this..

Organized Fridge (Sunny Side Up)

Ahhhh! I’m seriously giddy about this makeover!

Organized Fridge (Sunny Side Up)

For starters I took out the one fridge organizer I was previously using. It held our Coke Zeros but half of the time we weren’t using it and would just set the Coke’s wherever there was room. I knew I wanted to just set them on the shelf. Keeping things easier to maintain was my goal! Coke Zero’s now go on the top right shelf. Easy and done. On the second shelf I placed these narrow bins. They fit perfectly on my shallow shelves (hallelujah!) and are great to hold random items like Kenny’s protein drinks, yogurt, my balanced break snacks, feta cheese, etc. I’m not labeling anything because our groceries change so they will just hold whatever we are buying and eating at the moment!

Organized Fridge (Sunny Side Up)

Above and below the narrow bins are these food storage containers. I couldn’t love these more! They come in 3 different sizes and can all stack on top of each other. The lids fit and seal so nicely and I love that they are so narrow! Perfect to save space in a fridge or pantry. You can buy this 3 piece set with one of each size OR buy them in groups separately which is what I did. You can order a pack of 4 large canisters, a pack of 4 medium canisters, and/or a pack of 6 small canisters.

I know that it’s best to wait to cut up fruits and vegetables until you are going to eat them but here’s the thing with my family.. if healthy snacks are cut up and washed and ready, they will be eaten immediately! Snacks like this don’t last long in our house so I never have to worry about keeping items like this fresh or wondering when things expire. Just to be safe I did put a piece of paper towel at the bottom of each container (a little trick – they absorb moisture and will keep your produce fresh longer!).

Organized Fridge (Sunny Side Up)

These canisters will be perfect to always hold fruits and veggies I usually buy and I can just use as many as I need after each trip to the grocery store. The tall canisters are also perfect to hold Kole’s go-gurt. :) I always buy just one carton of eggs and I left a spot on the second shelf for them. There are so many egg organizers I’ve considered buying over the years. They are beautiful to look at but I just know me and I will grow tired of taking eggs out of their carton to put in an organizer! Also unlike the fruit/veggies, we sometimes don’t eat all of our eggs and I need to know the expiration date.

Organized Fridge (Sunny Side Up)

I placed one large open bin that I bought as part of this laundry organization set on the bottom shelf to hold random items. I’m making fajitas this week so it’s holding peppers at the moment, but I can use it for anything or take it out if I need room for leftovers. I ordered another set of the tall canisters to hold our spring mix and spinach so I’ll add those when they come. Those two items are staples in our fridge because Ad and I like to make salads with the spring mix and the spinach is for her bearded dragon (yes.. Peaches is still alive and doing well if anyone was wondering). ;)

Organized Fridge (Sunny Side Up)

I kept my bottom door shelf empty so I have another spot for leftovers or other random items that don’t fit in the fridge. I also have the two large drawers below for meats and other things. This makeover feels AMAZING. I am so happy every time I open our fridge and I know having these beautiful containers will help motivate me to keep healthy snacks washed and ready to eat. I know it will also help me to see what we’re running low on when we need groceries. Kenny and the kids are loving this makeover too and I’m hoping (fingers crossed!) this helps them see where items go so that they put things back where they belong and help keep the fridge clean. One would hope! Ha. I’ll keep you posted on that one. ;)

organized headbands (Sunny Side Up)

The fridge/pantry containers aren’t the only item I’m obsessed with in the new Home Edit collection.  Check out this headband organizer! It just came today and I hurried and put a few headbands on and snapped a pic with my phone in the evening to show you. I especially would have loved this when my girls were little! We had headbands everywhere! You can also get this narrow bin with a cute little slider tray to hold scrunches and other small hair clips and essentials. They also came out with a storage bin for hair tools and this great option to help organize bathroom drawers. So good right!?

Organized Fridge (Sunny Side Up)

I also couldn’t resist ordering these thin wood hangers to try! You can buy them in black or natural and get either a pack of 30 or a pack of 12. I can’t wait to try them which no doubt will lead to ordering more. :) I’ve linked other favorites from this collection below!

Ahhh organization. Like the cut up produce in my fridge.. it just never gets old.

Fall Living Room

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

We are soaking up and enjoying the last days of summer and I’m in no rush for it to end! But fall is right around the corner and I can’t help feeling excited for that too. School supplies, routines, and a schedule.. oh my! I do love a good schedule. :) You know what else I love about fall? The decor! It’s my favorite! Ok.. Christmas decor is actually my favorite. But fall decor takes a close second. :) I’ve been wanting to give our living room a re-fresh in darker tones so it felt like time to add a few touches of fall.

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

Almost everything new in this space is from the new Studio Mcgee line at Target and I couldn’t love it more! The colors are so rich and beautiful – cream, mahogany, chestnut brown, moss green.. they add so much warmth and richness to this space. Some items sold out already, but I heard they are re-stocking certain items soon so keep checking back if there’s something you love!

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

{amber glass vase/faux olive branches/ribbed glass candle/round marble end table}

I decided to bring my little marble end table into this space and love the way it ties in with everything. I added some of my favorite faux olive branches to a pretty amber vase and placed a candle next to them. Easy and done!

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

{oversized basketweave pillow/floral block pillow}

I love bringing a variety of patterns and textures in when I’m decorating for fall and these pillows made that so easy!

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

{woven geo striped pillow/green floral printed pillow/oversized woven windowpane pillow/color block boucle throw}

They are all so different but compliment one another so beautifully. Takes the guess work out of decorating!

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

I updated our photo wall with recent family pictures and added a fun fall print at the top. I like the little pop of something different! I might change the frame to black at some point.. always tweaking things around here. :)

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

{black floor lamp}

I’m also excited about this new lamp! It comes in both a black and gold and is sold out at the moment, but I’m hoping it’s one of the items that comes back in stock!

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

{textured striped lumbar throw pillow/green basket weave knit throw}

Cozy green throws for the win! I’m going to pull in lots of green this fall throughout my home because #1 Green is beautiful and I love it! And #2 it will make things easy to transition to Christmas decor. This throw comes in several other colors too.

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

{dough bowl/vintage floral canvas/footed camel ceramic vase/smoked glass vase/cream vintage vase/homebody/made for living}

My shelves aren’t done (another area I’m always tweaking!), but I’m off to a good start with a few beautiful pieces.

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

{large magnolia leaf potted/rattan arched wall mirror/similar hexagon mirror here & here}

I’ve been wanting a new mirror for this space and I fell hard for this rattan mirror but it wasn’t quite big enough for this mantel. My solution? Time to layer! I love the mix of the two unique mirrors together. I also love these beautiful potted magnolia leaves!

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

I always get excited when it’s time to pull out the rust orange. Take me to the pumpkin patch!

 A few rich, warm accents on my shelves help complete the look!

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

{plum cimicifuga leaves/lid cream canister/small canister/similar gold tray}

I kept my coffee table decor simple with these beautiful faux plum cimicifuga leaves (love them!) and two cute little canisters on a gold tray.

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

I’ve loved my navy drapes but I’m thinking about switching them out for something more neutral at some point this year. We will have been in this house NINE years this October (can you believe that!?). I’ve been itching to update a few things and drapes are on my list!

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

So are light fixtures. I’ve been looking for something fun for this space and will share it as soon as I decide. I’m SLOW when it comes to decisions on items like light fixtures and large furniture because I know I’ll have them in my home for years. What will last another 9? :)

For now I’m enjoying these new fall updates that made this room feel brand new all over again!

Fall Living Room (Sunny Side Up)

Bring on the schedule! Fall I am almost ready for you. :)

New Chandelier (Sunny Side Up)

Happy weekend! I hope you had a good week! We’ve had lots of kids in and out and lots of outside time.. summer is in full force! We also had a fun scheduled visit by my electricians. I love my electricians. They installed every light in my house when we built it and know me well. :) I have been wanting to switch out this dining room light fixture for years! There are so many beautiful options that it took me a while to find “the one.” I can be a mix of picky and indecisive while at the same time know exactly what I want and will be happy with anything. Ha. It’s a skill I’ve perfected over time that drives my husband crazy and is why he calls me the “most low maintenance/high maintenance person he’s ever met.”

I’m tricky like that. ;)

Anyway.. back to the light. It was time for an update!

New Chandelier (Sunny Side Up)

Hellooo beautiful!

New Chandelier (Sunny Side Up)

{nottaway chandelier}

This nottaway chandelier is what I ultimately chose and to say I’m in love would be an understatement! It’s hard to tell in this picture just how beautiful this fixture is and how much it changed the way this space feels.

New Chandelier (Sunny Side Up)

It’s tricky to photograph because of the surrounding windows and doors! It comes in a gold but I chose the bronze and I love the finish. It’s light and airy.. a mix of traditional and modern.

New Chandelier (Sunny Side Up)

I love the way the bronze finish looks with my zinc table. Mixed metals has been one of my favorite design trends the past few years!

New Chandelier (Sunny Side Up)

It also works well with our kitchen pendants which is what kept me from going with other fixtures I liked. That’s the tricky part about light selection I learned quickly when we were building. You can’t just pick out lights you love. The goal is to find a light you love that also works with/compliments the surrounding lights in your space. Sometimes easier said than done!

New Chandelier (Sunny Side Up)

{Pine Brooke Diamond Rug/Abbott Dining table in concrete/similar chairs here}

I especially love how this light doesn’t get in the way of our view out of these windows. Our nook actually feels larger with the new light.. it has been such a happy update! (Right up until Addison said it reminds her of a light that would be in Vecna’s house in Stranger Things season 4.. ha ha)

I still love it! :) I’m honestly obsessed with this style of light and have been for a while. I found so many fun options at different price points when I was looking for this fixture so I rounded them all up for you below..

chandeliers (thesunnysideupblog.com)

1 –woodhouse iron chandelier   2- saxon  chandelier   3- bosley rattan chandelier

4- gold light fixture   5- nottaway chandelier   6– farmhouse chandelier

7- rowan 4-light chandelier   8- rohan collection 6-light chandelier   9- modern farmhouse chandelier

Can I be honest and admit that part of the reason I’ve always wanted a light like this is because I can totally picture it draped in greenery during the holidays! Can you see it too!?

Can’t wait. :)

new outdoor rug (Sunny Side Up)

I spent lots of time working in our backyard this past week too. We were traveling so much during the beginning of summer that I didn’t have time to get my outdoor spaces clean!

new outdoor rug (Sunny Side Up)

I like to pull our furniture out in this space once or twice a year and sweep the flagstone.

new outdoor rug (Sunny Side Up)

I ordered a new rug for this space and wanted it clean before I laid it down. It always feels so good to get rid of dirt and cobwebs! This space gets a lot of sun and I’ve learned that I have to just plan on replacing this rug every 2-3 years. Between the sun and the kids my outdoor rugs get pretty trashed! I’m over spending a lot of money on them for sure.

new outdoor rug (Sunny Side Up)

{navy stripe outdoor rug}

I looked on-line at so many options! I really wanted this rug to go with the smaller rugs around my yard, but it doesn’t come in a 9×12 which is what I need for this space. I finally landed on this beautiful navy stripe outdoor rug and was so excited! The right size, the right color, a great price and it works well with my other rugs and pillows.

Plus I’ve never met a stripe I didn’t like. :)

new outdoor rug (Sunny Side Up)

It feels durable too! And you can spray it off with the hose to clean it. Perfect for my messy crew. :)

new outdoor rug (Sunny Side Up)

I need to add pillows and flowers but it feels so good just to have this space clean again!

home decor (Sunny Side Up)

In other fun news the N sale is now open to everyone! Yea! There are still so many fun things in stock this year. My marble serving board in ebony is still in stock. So beautiful!

home decor (Sunny Side Up)

{marble & wood serving board/similar ebony serving board}

These beautiful boards are also still in stock and the small white marble board makes a great gift! I’ve given it lots as a gift with this favorite board book. :)

shelf styling (Sunny Side Up)

I love these small boards for decor too.. you can see another one layered on this top shelf.

home decor (Sunny Side Up)

My marble lazy susan is still in stock too! Looks cute in kitchen corners or next to the stovetop holding salt and pepper. :)

home decor (Sunny Side Up)

My bowl sold out but this beautiful marble cake stand is still in stock. I’m excited about it for cakes and decorating!

home decor (Sunny Side Up)

This adorable strawberry wood cutting board is one of my favorite N sale purchases this year. TOO CUTE. I love it for summer! Lighting is off on my marble because this was just delivered tonight so I took a quick cell phone pic to show you.

home decor (Sunny Side Up)

Isn’t it fun!? it looks cute turned sideways too.

home decor (Sunny Side Up)

{abstract wall art/amsterdam framed art print}

I love the fun art prints that are on sale each year during the N sale – these frames are so beautiful! This year I ordered these two prints above. I didn’t mean for them to be a pair but I’m kind of loving them stacked together like this so I might need to re-think where I’m putting them.  The warm colors will be perfect for Fall!

I rounded up some other favorites below! You might recognize several of them that are currently in my home. :)

N Sale and Amazon Prime Day Favorites

N sale (Sunny Side Up)

{cora long sleeve dress/hensley over the knee boot/madewell bracelets}

Mid July! How is everyone doing!? Hot? Loving summer or are you over it? My answer changes every 15 minutes. :) I’m dragging this week because I signed Kole up for a writing camp that goes from 8-10 am. What was I thinking!? Now we have to wake up early and as soon as I drop him off it’s pretty much time to turn around and pick him up. As a mom of 3 I know better than this and am truly disappointed in myself. He better be writing a NY times best seller by the end of this camp in two weeks because I stay up way too late at night in the summer to be waking up at 7 am. Ha. ;)

I have a few more fun N sale finds to share and then my Amazon Prime picks! July is a GOOD month for sales isn’t it!?  This green dress above is so pretty and flattering! It comes in black too. On the short side which makes it perfect to wear with over the knee boots! These hensley over the knee boots were one of my favorite N sale buys from last year. I have them in 3 colors I love them so much! I wear them all the time in the fall/winter.

N sale (Sunny Side Up)

{thermal knit crop sweater/initial pendant necklace/AG straight leg jeans/tressara pointed knee high boot}

Another favorite is this cute knit crop sweater! I was so excited when I tried this on. I was worried it would be too short (you never know with “crop” tops) but it’s a great length. Short but not too short and I love the casual knit thermal look.

N sale (Sunny Side Up)

{button front smocked floral top/ex boyfriend AG jeans/similar shoes here & here}

This cute top isn’t part of the N sale but it is on sale! Madewell scores again. I’ve love wearing it this summer. It has such a cute puff sleeve and square neck and I love the floral pattern and colors! Cute with cut offs or jeans.. dressy or casual! It will transition nicely into Fall with the orange flowers too.

N sale (Sunny Side Up)

{barefoot dreams blanket/barefoot dreams pillow/cotton stripe bath rug}

My pillow came! Matches my favorite blanket and these two items are going to be glued to me this Fall! I can’t wait to cozy up with them on the couch. Suddenly I’m seeing garland! I’m picturing the fire burning and a Christmas movie playing with tree lights on in the corner.

My new pillow is inspiring happiness already. :)

N sale (Sunny Side Up)

{cotton stripe bath rug}

This bath rug is so cute too! Such a steal.. I’m surprised it hasn’t sold out yet! It has a nice rubber back so it doesn’t slip too which I love. I’m going to put it in my pool bathroom. Or my powder bathroom. Or Kole’s bathroom. Lots of options for a cute stripe bath rug!

Items on sale are going fast, but I rounded up some things I’m seeing and loving that are still in stock! I’ve ordered a few to try in each collage. Covering favorite tops, coats, jewelry and I rounded up some cute things for little girls! Everything I would order if my girls were younger and still let me order their clothes. :)

Amazon Prime (Sunny Side Up)

{GE countertop nugget ice maker}

Ok.. let’s talk Amazon Prime Day! One day left to get so many good deals! Some of my favorite items around my home are on major sale like our GE countertop nugget ice maker. We love this thing.. especially in the summer! My parents gave it to us as a Christmas present a few years ago and it has been a major hit. This picture is horrible because I forgot to take one today so this is as screen shot of an old IG story! I’ll get a better pic of it later but you can see we keep it in our main laundry room. That’s the only downside to this ice maker.. it takes up some space so if you don’t have room in your kitchen you have to plan a spot for it! Well worth the crushed ice at our house. :)

Spring Cleaning Tips (Sunny Side Up)

{portable hand vacuum cleaner}

Also on sale.. my beloved little vacuum cleaner . I LOVE this little vacuum for drawers! The attachment makes it so easy to quickly vacuum crumbs. I keep one in my kitchen and one in my bathroom and I’m going to order one more for upstairs for my girls. It’s the perfect size to easily store and packs a big punch!

Amazon Prime (Sunny Side Up)

My Elta MD sunscreen is a staple for me. I wear it under my make-up every single day! I love that it’s slightly tinted. It’s perfect to wear to exercise w/o make-up too. I love it so much I took it to one of my Favorite Things parties as my favorite a few years ago! Below are other beauty favorites. I’m so excited to try the WOW spray.. I’ve heard such good things about it! My girls love these make-up sponges and the dead sea mask and Kenny loves the white strips! He tried them out about a year ago and they worked really well. He hates me for having white teeth without having to use a whitener. I always tell him I’d trade him my white teeth for his good knees any day. Ha. We’ve all got a little good with the bad right? :)

N sale active wear (Sunny Side Up)

{long sleeve performance tee/zella live-in joggers/similar adidas sneaker}

Happy Saturday! I’m so excited for this weekend! It’s the first weekend in a long time we don’t have a lot planned. I’m planning on doing some work in my yard, starting a new book I ordered, organizing a little and then Kenny is taking me out to lunch or dinner. He doesn’t know it yet, but he is. :) Sounds like a perfect weekend. I hope you have something fun or relaxing planned too!

The N sale is open to another group and I’m sharing a few long time favorites they brought back this year along with a few other items I picked up for me and a few I picked up for Kole. If you missed my first try on post you can see it HERE. So many cute things this year! I love that they didn’t space the groups out so far this time. Most items are still in stock and it gives everyone a chance to get what they want. These zella live-in joggers above are such a great fit! I have them in both black and green and wear them all the time. One of my favorites in the active wear category this year!

N sale active wear (Sunny Side Up)

{muse ribbed crop pullover/ribbed high waist sweat pants}

Last year I bought this cute alo cropped hoodie and sweat pants and I lived in them all winter! So cute and comfortable and a great fit. They brought a similar look back in different colors (linked above). I love the teal!

These are a few other tried and true active wear favorites!

N sale (Sunny Side Up)

{leather moto jacket/leather bomber jacket (also on sale)/rounded v-neck tee/similar: AG straight leg jeans}

They brought back this cute leather moto jacket that has honestly become one of my favorite jackets EVER. I wore it to every football game last fall. I love the removable hood that gives it a casual layered look and sweatshirt vibe. This is a cute leather bomber jacket I ordered this year to try.

N sale (Sunny Side Up)

{bobble cardigan/similar: AG straight leg jeans/similar mules}

They also brought back this cute bobble cardigan! And similar mules. This pair is so cute with the little bow on top. :)

{rounded v-neck tee/initial pendant necklace/similar: AG straight leg jeans/ugg slippers}

I was so happy to see my favorite rounded v-neck tee on sale again! So good for just $12! These crazy soft Uggs are back too and I’m tempted to get a green pair! So many cute colors out this year. They make great Christmas gifts too.

N sale (Sunny Side Up)

I wear these tees all the time.. in the summer with joggers or shorts, I layer them in the fall (perfect under a cardigan or jacket) and sometimes I sleep in them! A wardrobe staple for me.

N sale (Sunny Side Up)

The T 3 hair tools are still in stock and on sale!  Hands down my favorite.

N sale (Sunny Side Up)

{T3 hair dryer}

I picked up a new blow dryer for me because I’m going to let Ellie take my old T3 blow dryer to college. I’m nice like that. ;) I take my T3 with me everywhere and Kenny likes to remind me that hotels have hair dryers so I don’t need to pack it. I like to remind him that hotels don’t have THIS hairdryer! It seriously dries my hair twice as fast as any other I’ve tried and I have THICK hair. It makes a huge difference for me!

N sale (Sunny Side Up)

{too faced bts mascara set/bobbi brown eye palette/mac attire eye palette/Olaplex}

So many great beauty items on sale this year! I always pick up the bts mascara (it’s my girls’ favorite and I can divide the sets up and use individual mascara for gifts). I also always get the bobbi brown eye palette and then that’s what I use for eye shadow all year until the next sale! The mac set looked good this year too so I bought it to try. The olaplaex is a no brainer. It has quickly become my favorite shampoo and conditioner!

N sale (Sunny Side Up)

{soft stretch bikini/soft stretch thong}

A little strange mentioning underwear but this brand is my favorite and is on sale. One size fits all (they stretch to whatever size you are) and they are so thin and comfortable! Shows no lines and you can hardly feel that you are wearing them. If you buy a set of 3 they go down to just $13 each!

July Amazon Buys/Home Inspo. (Sunny Side Up)

{cast iron double grill/marble and wood serving board}

My beloved cast iron double grill is back on sale! (So is my marble and wood serving board!) Two of my favorite N sale purchases. Last year I shared how I use my grill to cook perfect chicken (which is quite a feat for someone like me who is a horrible cook). The trick is the grill. :) Details are in this post!

boys N sale (Sunny Side Up)

Signing off with a few things I picked up for Kole. He has had a major growth spurt and NOTHING he owns fits him anymore! I’m scrambling to get him all new clothes and shoes before middle school starts! I love the tees above from the sale. I can’t believe I’m buying my baby size 12-14. So surreal! I ordered some fun clothes for him at Target and Walmart also and I’ll share those at some point. I also ordered the items below.. his favorite underwear and shorts in a bigger size, new shoes and socks, a cute jacket for when it cools off and his favorite robe in a bigger size. That will be a Christmas gift. :) He lives in his hooded robes all winter long!

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{tressara pointed knee high boot/ sonbela pointed toe boot/dixie waterproof boot/houston sneaker/retro sneaker/slingback pump/pama sandal}

Alright fashion lovers! This post is for you! Kicking off our first N sale try on with shoes. For me the selection of shoes and jeans in this year’s sale was hands down the best! So many fun options.

*For size reference – if I don’t mention otherwise each item fits true to size! I’m 5’3 and 1/2 (don’t forget the half!) and usually xs in tops and a 26 in jeans.

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{tressara pointed knee high boot/sonbela pointed toe boot/dixie waterproof boot}

These were my favorite boots from the sale. I always gravitate to Vince Camuto boots and booties because aside from being so stylish they are also so comfortable! I fell hard for the heel on the tressara boot! I ordered them in the dark brown color to try also. Such a Fall staple. I’m also thrilled slouchy boots are back in – they have always been my favorite! I also gravitate towards this light brown color because it goes with everything and is what I tend to want to wear the most. The black boots are a fun look too and are also so comfortable! I ordered this similar pair I found on-line for a little less to compare and see which one I like best.

{houston sneaker/retro sneaker}

When I saw the sale preview the first item I saw that I was beyond excited about were the Rag & Bone retro sneakers! Definitely a splurge (even on sale) but I’m a sneaker girl. Sneakers and joggers are staples for me and I know I will live in these! (I bought one half size smaller in the retro sneaker – they ran a little big for me.) LOVE them. I wish I could buy them in every color! The houston sneakers surprised me when I tried them on. So cute and they have a soft pad for the sole so they are extremely comfortable! Both come in lots of fun color options.

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{slingback pump/pama sandal}

I’ve needed a good basic black heel forever so I was thrilled about these Vince Camuto pumps! They have the same cute block heel as the tall boots. My friend bought them in tan and loves them too! The block heel sandals are similar to a pair I live in so I was excited to mix it up with these fun knotted straps.  They are so cute on!

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

I tried on so many shoes and these were hands down my favorites. The hardest part was deciding which color to choose!

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{leather tote}

I have to say that I wasn’t as impressed with the purse selection this year. I liked a few but only bought one – this leather tote. It’s beautiful! Such nice quality and I love the black straps. It has a cute zipper pouch inside that you can keep attached or take out. I love big bags like this that I can just toss any and everything inside!

Nordstrom purses (thesunnysideupblog.com)

1- color block leather crossbody   2- roulette leather wallet   3- stripe transport tote

4- leather tote   5- captain leather tote   6- quilted leather wallet   7- belt bag

These were other favorites and the only reason I didn’t buy them is because I already have similar purses. If you don’t have a madewell transport tote I would totally recommend that bag. I love the strap and have used and loved my madewell totes for years! But you already knew that, didn’t you. :) I did buy a few of the Adidas belt bags – such a good deal and so cute! One for me and a couple for gifts. They would be fun to fill with a gift card or other little items inside!

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{cozychic throw/in the wild throw/green bedding, mirrors and lamps are linked in this post}

This is what my bed currently looks like. It needs a summer re-fresh! I took of my comforter and put it in the guest bedroom and we are just sleeping with our favorite barefoot dream blankets! It’s so hot at night that’s all we really need. I have to say that I’m loving it because my husband is a huge cover hog! He somehow manages to roll up in all of our covers every night and I wake up freezing with nothing on me. I’m quite happy having my own blanket he can’t steal! Ha. Plus these blankets are the coziest. I ordered another chenille stripe white comforter for my bed (it’s on sale again this year!) to use when it cools off, but I will have a hard time parting with my barefoot dream blanket. I can’t recommend them enough! I just gave my dad one for Father’s Day and my mom keeps telling me how much he loves his blanket and how he moves it around with him everywhere. It’s such a nice gift to give too! Share the cozy. :)

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{madewell square neck top/raw hem flare jeans/pama sandal/leather tote}

Ok.. first up is this cute madewell top! I always head to the madewell section first. But you already knew that, didn’t you. :) These mother jeans were a fun surprise.. I didn’t expect to love them but they are such a good fit (so flattering!) and I feel very at home in flares again. It has been a minute.. but also feels like I was wearing them yesterday. :) They are a little long on me so perfect to wear with a block heel shoe.

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{madewell square neck top}

This top also comes in green and I loved it so much I bought both! CUTE top.

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{pembroke cotton top/initial pendant necklace/raw hem flare jeans/pama sandal}

Another fun madewell top! Love the sleeves, love the buttons, love the color.

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{dolman sweater/initial necklace/AG straight leg jeans/sonbela pointed toe boot}

This was one of my favorite sweaters from the sale! So soft and cozy and it just fits beautifully. I love the neckline too. These AG jeans are seriously the BEST fit! A straight leg so they are perfect for tall boots. (They are supposed to be a little cropped but are full length jeans for shorties like me!) This is the pair of jeans I will reach for the most.. hands down. But you already knew that, didn’t you. :) Worth every penny. They also brought back one of my favorite initial necklaces this year! I wear it all the time and have given a few for gifts.

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{puff sleeve sweater/AG straight leg jeans/sonbela pointed toe boot/initial necklace}

This puff sleeve sweater is so cute! I love sweaters like this because they are perfect for San Diego fall. It’s never cold enough for a long sleeve sweater in October but by then I’m always over summer tops and desperately want to wear fallish looking things! Now I can. Check! :)

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{kent colorblock cardigan/initial pendant necklace/tressara pointed knee high boot}

Ok.. I was talking to my friend before shopping the sale and I told her DON’T let me buy another color block madewell cardigan! I love them but I already have several. I knew Nordstrom would bring them back again and I knew I would be tempted to buy one again! She even sent me a text to remind me when I was shopping. Of course I totally ignored it when I saw the pink and green and this baby promptly came home with me. #sorrynotsorry

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{long sleeve tee/tressara pointed toe knee boot/AG straight leg jeans/initial necklace}

This top is supposed to be off the shoulder! And it’s a darling off the shoulder top if you want to wear it that way! I personally don’t love off the shoulder tops. You have to wear a strapless bra and if it’s cool enough for a sweater I want my shoulders covered. (I can be pretty practical when I want to be.) ;) But how cute is this sweater worn this way with just a big, slouchy neck! I love it. It was a little tight fitting so I sized up to a small. I tried the white and it was way too see through! Love the black.

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

 {raw hem flare jeans/scoop neck thermal top/initial pendant necklace/pama sandal}

A simple thermal top. Staple! I ordered it in the cream too. It’s huge so size down. I’m wearing xxs and it’s still slouchy.

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{oversized graphic tee/ex boyfriend AG jeans/retro sneaker}

Speaking of slouchy.. nothing like a fun oversized graphic tee! I always share tees like this with my girls. These AG jeans are a relaxed fit and are also so flattering! (Seriously AG jeans are too good!) You can cuff them or leave them down for a cropped looked. So fun to wear with sneakers!

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{you rock t-shirt/getaway pocket joggers/houston sneaker}

Ok this top and these zella joggers aren’t part of the sale.. just two items I love and have been living in this summer! Really cute with my new houston sneakers. :) (This is the top I have in 3 colors! Hands down my most worn item this summer.)

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{hunter plaid button-up/AG prima ankle jeans/tressara pointed toe boot}

I always get a rails plaid top during the sale and never regret it! They are so soft and comfortable and flattering for fall! I love the soft material and how they hang. These jeans are another great fit (AG for the win again!) and I love the dark wash to go with certain tops.

Anniversary Sale Favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{chiffon blouse/AG straight leg jeans/slingback pump/leather tote/initial necklace}

Last but not least for today is this beautiful chiffon blouse! So light weight and pretty! Perfect to start wearing in early fall before it gets cold. It’s a little dressy so I like it with my new pumps. Green is in and I’m loving it! Give me all the green!

And all the colorblock cardigans.

And all the AG jeans.

And all the madewell tops.

And all the barefoot dream blankets.

Throw in some cherry ice chap stick, a turkey sandwich and my laptop so I can blog about it all and I am one happy girl.

But you already knew that, didn’t you.

:)

4th and HOME N Sale (Sunny Side Up)

I hope you all had a nice long weekend! We just got back from a quick trip to visit family for the 4th. We packed A LOT into a few days and just flew home today! I need a nap! And groceries. But there’s no time for that because the Nordstrom sale is here! If you’re not sure what the sale is and when you can shop, details are HERE. Most of you know that I’ve been shopping and blogging about this sale since the dark ages. :) Nothing like NEW items for Fall on sale! I also do most of my Christmas shopping early during this sale and I’m always so grateful I did when December rolls around! I’m heading into the store this morning and will scope things out for us! I’ll try to get a post up of a few favorites as soon as I can. You can save items you love to your wishlist if you can’t shop yet so that you’re ready to go once you can shop. Items sell out quickly and returns at Nordstrom are free and easy so don’t hesitate if you like something!

Nordstrom Sale (thesunnysideupblog.com)

4- floral throw  5- chenille shower curtain   6-bliss throw

7- comforter set   8- in the wild throw   9- stripe bath mat

A Lot of my tried and true favorites are back again this year! Honestly the barefoot dream blankets are one of my favorite things from this sale. My family would agree.. they are all obsessed with them too! They are the coziest. I’m definitely picking up the matching pillow this year! The bliss throws are also long time favorites and perfect for holiday gifts. And how cute is the stripe bath mat!? Love that.

N sale/Target HOME favorites (Sunny Side Up)

{stripe shower curtain}

This cute stripe shower curtain in our guest room is back and such a good deal! It comes in a navy stripe too.  (More bathroom details in this post.)

Furniture Finds (Sunny Side Up)

This beautiful comforter set is also back! I bought it last year for our master bedroom and have loved it. I recently moved it into our guest room because it has been so hot at night (we are just sleeping with our barefoot dream blankets at the moment!) I love it in this room too so I think I’ll pick up another one for our master bedroom on sale this year and have it on both beds. I love a crisp white comforter and this one is so comfortable! Then I can switch out blankets and pillows for a whole new look each season.

N sale/Target HOME favorites (Sunny Side Up)

My round marble serving board and marble lazy susan sold out so fast last year.  I’m happy they brought them back again!  Two favorites that are always displayed somewhere in my home.

Nordstrom Sale (thesunnysideupblog.com)

1- round marble & wood serving board   2- large mango wood cheese board

3- wood serving bowl   4- marble serving board   5- marble lazy susan   6- cake stand

They have a few other favorite boards and I’m excited to pick up a black board this year! I’m loving a little dark and moody in my home with all of the white. Especially fun when Fall decorating rolls around!

nordstrom sale (thesunnysideupblog.com)

These decorative cutting boards are a fun new addition this year – they feel like Anthro to me! They would be a cute pop of color displayed in the kitchen and would also make a fun gift.

1-garden cutting board    2- butterfly cutting board

3- strawberries cutting board   4- spring garden cutting board

More favorites coming very soon! :)

4th and HOME N Sale (Sunny Side Up)

Back to our weekend.. we had so much fun rafting near Park City! Kenny and I were going to take our kids and convinced the whole crew to join us.

4th and HOME N Sale (Sunny Side Up)

We were in the lead raft with our girls and my niece and nephew (who took this picture). The rest of our family was in two other rafts and they hatched a plan to gang up on us. They snuck up behind and just soaked us! We were laughing so hard. We tried to get back at them but Kenny was the only successful splasher. I think my girls and I just managed to soak ourselves even more. Ha. It was such a fun day. I love rafting! The rapids themselves are great but it’s also so fun just floating down a beautiful river enjoying the scenery and laughing with my crew. :)

4th and HOME N Sale (Sunny Side Up)

{Me: free people tee/performance joggers    Kenny: banks shorts/Vuori henley/vans}

Parade date the morning of the 4th. :) Kenny and I rolled out of bed and both threw on our go-to favorites. Vuori for the win! Always. :)

4th and HOME N Sale (Sunny Side Up)

My sister went all out again with the food! Fingers crossed I can zip up my pants tomorrow. Definitely questionable after all I ate this weekend!

4th and HOME N Sale (Sunny Side Up)

So great getting to spend time with my siblings. I’m the oldest. And the wisest.

And the shortest. ;)

4th and HOME N Sale (Sunny Side Up)

Rafting, trampoline park, parade, scooters, night games, fireworks, FOOD, movie marathons and a piñata. The kids have been living their best lives!

4th and HOME N Sale (Sunny Side Up)

Of course no piñata is complete without a candy trade after. Listening to these kids negotiate for their favorites just made me smile and took me right back to my childhood!

Three Smarties and one Snickers for the Blow Pop.

SCORE.

Backyard Fun

*This post is sponsored by Walmart. All product selections and opinions are my own!
Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

I hope you’re enjoying the weekend! I’m popping in quick to share some of our favorite backyard toys. Every summer I order a few new things from Walmart to entertain the kids (they have so many fun options!) and I’ve definitely figured out what works best for my 3 and their friends.

Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

{watermelon float raft}

Festive pool rafts are a no brainer and this watermelon has been Kole’s favorite this summer. Perfect to spread out on and it looks cute in the pool when the kids aren’t using it. Bonus for mom. :)

Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

{pineapple pool float mat/watermelon float raft}

Addison has claimed the pineapple and loves laying on it to tan. Which is why Kole loves to steal it when she’s not paying attention. Siblings! He has way too much fun annoying her.

Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

{light up bean bag toss set}

Another hit this summer is this light up bean bag toss. Kole has always loved this simple game and after playing it at every hotel we stay in I finally bought him his own set. I didn’t take a night pic but this particular set is fun because it lights up when it’s dark! There are lots of other fun bean bag toss options here.

Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

My girls’ friends are always so sweet to hang with Kole when they are over! Not that they have much of a choice. If there is a party going on Kole’s not missing out. Ha.

Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

Victory! And Addison got her pineapple back. :)

Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

{trac-ball}

This trac-ball set was seriously the smartest $7 I’ve spent this summer!

Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

The kids all love this simple game and toss the ball back and forth in the pool, out of the pool and all over the yard. It’s a hit and they are getting really good at it!

Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

{willow sage 3 piece set/navy outdoor rug/woven blue outdoor throw pillows}

This picture made me laugh.. can you spot the red ball? Perfection.. ha.

Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

{super soaker/go pro-ball set/water blaster pool toy/diving pool toys}

A few other outdoor toys I always have on hand.. super soakers, water blasters, small sports balls and diving toys. When my girls were little I ordered toy mermaids and dolls that could get wet.

Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

With boys you can’t go wrong with squirt guns!

Backyard Fun (Sunny Side Up)

Nothing like the carefree days of summer. :)

Summer fun walmart (thesunnysideupblog.com)

1- supersoaker   2- water blast pool toy   3- water balloons

4-  go pro-ball set   5- triple water slide   6- pineapple pool float

7- trac ball classic   8-razor scooter   9- ride on car   10- outdoor swing

If your kids have favorite outdoor toys they love that I didn’t mention please share them with me! I’m always looking for fun options. I shared a few other past favorites above. Rope swings and water slides on the grass are always a hit and my kids were obsessed with their razor scooters and ride on cars for years! Also here’s a fun idea if you have little kids.. try giving them a bucket full of water and a paint brush. Send them outside and tell them to “paint” the wall or fence or whatever you have in your yard. My girls loved “painting ” when they were little! A paint brush and bucket of water kept them entertained for hours. :)

4th of July Porch (Sunny Side Up)

Happy 4th everyone! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
