Easy Ways to Spring Clean (Sunny Side Up)

Happy weekend everyone!  Thank you so much to everyone who sent sweet birthday wishes and participated in the giveaway.  Winner is Mary Beth @mbmessner!  And Pottery Barn it is. :)  Mary Beth I’ll be in touch!

My family and friends made my birthday special with lunch and dinner and I spent the afternoon with Kenny donating blood.  A new tradition I’m so excited about!  Some of you might remember that a massive blood transfusion saved my life after a scary experience about 10 days after I gave birth to Kole (I wrote more about it the year after it happened here).  I decided that every year on my birthday (or during the month of March if I can’t make it happen on my birthday) I’m going to give blood.  A little way of saying thanks because I’m so grateful to still be here today. :)  I also think we need to continue the birthday giveaway because that was fun!  I wish I could send every one of you a $300 gift card!

We closed the restaurant down again this year!  Love my friends and birthdays are the best. :)

Sharing a fun new find with you all today!  I’m obsessed with these Elsie Rattan bowls from Anthro!  Honestly this basket/bowl looks so good everywhere I put it!  I’ve been moving it around and finally decided to use it as a fruit bowl. :)

Aren’t the handles so much fun!?  I love the style and texture it adds to my kitchen.

I bought both sizes (the fruit bowl is the largest) and I’ll show you what I’m doing with the smaller bowl when I figure that out!  It will look great somewhere. :)

Also if you’re looking for great kitchen plants my faux topiaries are back with a little lavender!  So cute.  These faux basil drop-ins are also favorites and look SO real.

I have the small size here.  So happy about all of the great faux plant options coming out this Spring because I love having plants in my home but I only have the time and talent to keep one.. maybe two alive.  Ha.  #truth

Here are a few other new finds I’m loving this weekend:

PB has 20% off of everything this weekend and all of the fun Easter items are out!  I have these glitter eggs and love them!   They look so cute in a vase or bowl or basket to add to a table for some Easter fun.  I’m also loving this clear glass vase that’s on sale and I have these Cambria dishes in my cart (I’ve wanted them forever and am getting them for my birthday!).  Also a lot of their outdoor furniture is on sale!  So excited to start eating dinner outside again.

This faux fur throw with cute poms is 40% off and comes in 3 colors and this cute Madewell top is on sale for just $29!  And my new cozy North Face jacket is also 40% off. (I’ve lived in it this winter!)

Also Wayfair is having a 3 day clearance sale with up to 70% off of all things HOME!  I’m on the hunt for a few things to finish off some spaces I’m working on.  More on that soon!

I made a fun list of 20 simple things we can all do to spring clean (it’s in my printable library and you can download here.)  I’m going to be checking off this list during the next month and I hope you’ll join me!  Check out this post for some inspiring pictures to get you motivated!

  1. Wishing you a belated happy birthday! I love your kitchen! I wondered if you could tell me what your white countertops are (thickness, color, manufacturer), if your gorgeous shaker cabinets have any bead inset in the door (looks like they dont, but hard to tell), and the source for that cute, aqua counter oven I can no longer find. Thank you!!!

    1. Thank you Wendy! Counters are quartz – Caeserstone (Organic White) and they are 2 inch mitered. No bead inset in the cabinets! And I’m not sure what you’re talking about on the aqua counter oven? Do you mean the kitchen aid? xo

  2. Oh, Erin! I read about your massive blood transfusion and it brought tears to my eyes! As the mother of a daughter who experienced a similar situation, except hers was in the hours following the birth of our first grandchild, I will never forget how scary the whole situation was. It’s amazing how you can go from such great joy following the birth of a baby to such a terrify moment that diminishes the joy and you struggle to stay positive and hopeful in the dimness of such a scary event. She too had emergency surgery followed by blood transfusions and thank goodness came through it. Since this was her first child, they were able to prevent a total hysterectomy and two years later she had another child with no complications what so ever! God is amazing in his grace and faithfulness!

    1. Jan! That makes me want to cry! I’m so happy to hear that your daughter is ok and was able to have more children. It really is such a terrifying experience and I’m sorry you all had to live through it too. I kept thinking after it all how grateful I was that it happened after the birth of our 3rd and not our 1st because I really would have struggled not being able to have more than one child. I’m just so happy that wasn’t the case for your daughter! I wish I could give her a huge hug. Both of you! We are both so fortunate. And lucky to have amazing moms who love us and are there for us. :) Thank you for sharing that with me and enjoy your sweet grandkids! xo

  3. Happy Spring Erin,

I love your kitchen and I am wondering what your black countertops are and if they show streaks when you touch them? My friend has black granite and it shows streaks and fingerprints.

    1. Hi Jacqueline! My black countertops are quartz! Caeserstone.. color is Raven and it’s actually a dark grey. They don’t show streaks! :)

  4. Hi Erin! I found your blog recently and it’s been great for decorating inspiration :) I’m actually in the process of building a new home, so I can finally decorate how I want and choose (and maybe obsess over) all those little details, lol.
I have a couple of questions about hardware. First, what are your thoughts on cabinet hardware throughout the house? Should I try to use the same style of knobs/handles in the kitchen and bathrooms so that everything matches, or would it work if I had different ones in the bathrooms? Secondly… it doesn’t look like you have any ceiling fans but I live in Florida so they’re a necessity in every room :) Do you have any opinions on whether the ceiling fan hardware should match everything else in the house? All our door handles, faucets, hall lights, cabinet hardware are going to be brushed nickel. But a lot of the ceiling fans I like are dark wood with a bronze/black metal. I’m now wondering if it would clash!
    Thanks for your help :)

    1. Hi Natalie! So happy you found me and that my blog has been helpful! You can absolutely mix up your hardware and do different looks in different rooms. I did! I think the ceiling fan hardware can be unique too. It’s kind of the style now to mix and match hardware! I would absolutely use the fans with bronze/black metal even though your cabinet hardware is brushed nickel. Just pick what you love! I hope that helps. :)
