While in Maui

We’re back!  We have been in Maui this last week and had such a fabulous vacation!  We left Kole in Utah with my parents (because taking a one year old on a vacation = no vacation) and just took the girls. Maui is one of our favorite vacation spots and this trip was our best trip yet.  Our girls are finally hitting that magical age!  They were so much fun!  We also invited some close friends of ours and we all had an amazing trip.

Enjoying the view at our resort.  The pool leads straight to the ocean and is simply breathtaking!

While in Maui…

 We enjoyed beautiful scenery…
and woke up each morning to this gorgeous ocean view off of our balcony.
We strolled along the path from pool to pool.
The pirate ship pool was especially a hit and seemed to call our names at least once a day.
Fears were conquered when Addison went down the little slide…
and when Ellie went down the big one.
Kenny and the girls spent a great deal of time swimming.

I spent a great deal of time lounging and reading next to the pool.

Kenny made pancakes every morning for the girls while I exercised.  Then the men were in charge of the BBQ at night.  Minimal cooking was my favorite part of the trip.

Some nights the kids dined on our balcony.

Some nights we ate out.  We made sure to go to totally unique Hawaiian restaurants.
Like Hard Rock Cafe.

We rented a convertible and cruised around the island.

We went whale watching and were literally feet away from five whales and two dolphins.  The first hour was magical.  The second hour (that I spent throwing up in the bathroom) – not so magical.

After years of enduring sea sickness an executive decision was made.  From now on I will enjoy boats from the shore.

While in Maui we witnessed breathtaking sunsets off of our balcony.
The kids spent a lot of time by the water.
And in the water.

We enjoyed calm mornings at the beach.
And a bit rougher ones.

Kenny and I did a little snorkeling.
And managed to sneak in some couple time here and there.

We enjoyed a Hawaiian Luau.  Because no matter how many times you’ve been to Maui, the trip isn’t official without visiting a Luau.
We learned the secret to the tasty pork…which made it suddenly seem not so tasty.

The kids learned how to “hang loose.”  (sort of)
We shopped for souvenirs at Crazy Shirts.  Because it also wouldn’t be a trip to Maui without buying a crazy shirt for someone.  (Love that you can see Kenny at the cash register and me taking the picture through the glass.  An unplanned family portrait)
I paraded around the island in my “Scarlett O’Hara” hat.  Determined to keep the sun away from my face.  Determined to keep the wrinkles at bay.
And truth be told, maybe just a little bit determined to resemble Scarlett O’Hara.

We missed our little buddy, but so enjoyed some special time with just our girls.
We completely relaxed and had a magical vacation… while in Maui.
xoxo, Erin

  6. So glad you guys had a great time. We were in Maui last summer and your photos brought back great memories. I’m wondering if those rougher waves were in Kanopauli. Emily and I totally ate it many times in those afternoon waves which my boys thought was hilarious. Believe it or not I was still finding sand in my ear just two months ago. Gross I know, but true.

I bet you couldn’t wait to get your hands on Kole!!

  7. How fun- I am just a little jealous. I would love to wake up to that view everyday. Amazing. Sometime in my life I will make it to Hawaii, with or without my kids, I don’t care either way.

  8. Looks like you all had a fabulous time, Erin!!! Great pics! And I think it’s awesome that you were able to spend some time with just the girls, although I’m sure you missed your little buddy an awful lot!! Hawaii is definatly on our must visit list!

  12. HI!!! I have no idea who you are, but I stumbled across your blog…and suddenly got so excited!!! That’s the same Westin Resort we stay at in Maui…isn’t it the best!!! Hope you get to go again soon…looks like we can’t go again until 2012…bummer. My 10-year-old daughter thought it was so neat to see your pix with backgrounds we recognize…ALOHA!

  13. Oh Erin, that looks DIVINE!!! You know the thing I am most jealous of? That you got to leave Kole with your parents! Going on vacation with a toddler is NO vacation, and don’t I know it! Ha! ;-) I am with you- I will enjoy the ocean from the BEACH…I get soooo seasick it’s not even funny. I went marlin fishing in Puerto Rico a few years ago, and I swore…NEVER AGAIN! Looks like a magical vacation!!! :-) You deserve it!!! :-)

  14. Looks like you guys had so much fun!!!! Love all of the pictures! And dang….I should have ran and got Kole. Otis would have loved to have the little guy around!

What a fabulous and seriously relaxing week it was! We love, love, loved it! Start emailing me your pics and I’ll get going on mine. (I think I’ll want some of yours for my post.) Hope your recovery week is going well!

  19. Oh I am so jealous!! I am CRAVING Hawaii right now!! Dave and I keep teasing each other that we secretly bought tickets to go!! Only to laugh and know we are kidding. Seeing your pictures only makes me want to go more!! You need to venture to another island next time…. Kauaii to be exact!! It is soooo Hawaii there…so tropical. I love the Luau pictures…and I too couldn’t eat the pork once I saw how it was cooked…gross!! Not very appetizing!! What an amazing trip! I bet your girls loved it! What fun memories!!
