Under Construction

My blog is getting a facelift.  California style.  A nip here, a tuck there, a little botox on the side.  ;)

Things are TOTALLY under construction right now so please excuse the mess!  It will take a day or two before I get everything up and running the right way since I can’t put life on hold for my blog design.

But oh how I wish I could.
:)
Enjoy your day!

I want to remember

I want to remember that Kole’s favorite movie is Tinkerbell and whenever I turn it on he is absolutely glued to the TV.  It’s the only movie he will watch from start to finish.  I have tried to get him to watch Cars and other “boy” shows time and time again but nothing holds his attention like the fairies of Pixie Hollow.  It is adorable and hilarious and strangely appropriate for the life he lives surrounded by so many girls.  This bit of information should come in handy someday.  :)

I want to remember that not long ago Ellie was so upset about some bushes and flowers we pulled out of the front yard that she decided to run away.  Apparently they were favorites of hers and she didn’t appreciate the change.  She packed a suitcase and told us she was leaving for good.  Trying desperately to keep straight faces, Kenny and I asked her a few important questions –
“What will you eat?”
“I guess I will have to go to Vons and steal some donuts.”
Where are you going?
“To Utah to grandma and grandpa’s house.  They have a pool and grandpa is retired now.  He will play with me.”
She made it out the door and to the mailboxes and then slowly came back and told us maybe she would run away tomorrow.  We told her we were so glad she decided to wait because we would miss her more than we could handle.
Later I checked her suitcase and she had packed two swim suits and a pair of pajamas.

I want to remember how Kenny lights up whenever he talks about our kids.  We had short meetings with each of the girls’ teachers last week to set goals for the school year and it made me smile listening to him talk about our girls.  His eyes sparkle and he speaks about them like they are the most amazing little people in the world.  I always knew he would be a good dad, but he has exceeded my expectations beyond measure.

I want to remember the way Kole climbs on me and says “lap!”  My lap is his favorite place to be and you won’t hear me complaining about it.

I want to remember the way that Ellie calls a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup a “Reese” and a Jolly Rancher a “Jolly Ranch.”  They are two of her favorite treats and I don’t think she knows the right way to pronounce them.  I haven’t told her the correct way because I think her version is better.  I hope nobody else tells her for a long time.

I want to remember that when Addison was getting ready to start Kindergarten Kenny told her how important it is to do well in school.  He said “if you work hard in school you can be anything you want to be when you grow up.”  Addison said “Good!  Because I want to be a mom!”

I want to remember the way that made me feel.

Organized kids’ closet/drawers

Thank you so much for all of the sweet comments yesterday about the flood in my home town.  I really appreciated the kind words.  Such a tough situation.  My mom and I talked several times throughout the day and she was constantly overwhelmed by how many people jumped right into the mess to help.  It’s always so touching to see a community come together during times like this.  I am so proud to come from such an amazing little town full of some of the nicest people you could meet.  I wish I could be there right now.  But somehow I have a feeling that “my crew” wouldn’t be that much of a help.  :)
I’ve been in a total funk ever since I heard the news about the flood (and especially about the state of a very close friend’s house) so to cheer myself up a bit tonight I decided an organizing post was in order.  Organizing (and posting about organizing) is always an instant upper for me.  My secret go-to drug.  :)  I always say this, but my house really is the most organized when I’m feeling sad or stressed.  Organizing lifts my spirits instantly and I turn to this quick fix time and time again.  Today is no different!
I try to stay on top of my kids’ closets and drawers by constantly getting rid of clothes that don’t fit or that they aren’t wearing.  You’ve seen Ellie’s closet before:
I’m happy to say that since this closet makeover last November we’ve stayed on top of this space and haven’t had to re-organize it since.  Addison’s closet was another story.  I don’t have before pictures to share, but because of Addison’s love for fashion combined with the fact that she gets all of Ellie’s hand me downs, her closet and drawers were BUSTING at the seams.  I spent a few days over the summer and completely re-organized the space.  I got rid of a lot and took bags of clothes to goodwill.  Felt SO good.
Here’s what her closet looks like now:
SO much better!
A quick breakdown of how I’ve organized her clothes –

We are still laying out outfits at the beginning of each week.  LOVE THIS.  It is working so well for us.  These are her outfits for this week.  As is usually the case, she was in a dress mood.  :)

I hang these clothes with their “accessory sacks” on the upper right side of her closet where they are easy to grab and layout for each day.

Everything else to the left of her weekly outfits are long sleeved tops that aren’t worn as much.  Winter clothes for the couple of months that it cools off around here.

There is a shelf above these clothes where I store the girls’ pillow pets.
I make every ounce of space count!

Below the winter shirts is a shelf I use for the girls’ pony and pet shop village.  I keep these toys here because this shelf is easy for them to reach and they play with these toys often.

Below that shelf is where I keep tank tops and short sleeved shirts.  Weather appropriate clothes for most of the year.  For the few months it cools off here, I flip the racks and put the warmer clothes down below and summer tops up high.  That way Addie can reach her clothes.  :)

This is the right side of the closet.

The middle is open shelving where I store a few extra games.  The lowest shelf holds all of the girls’ “breakables.”  Random ceramics they’ve made, piggy banks, a tea set.  All that girly stuff that they want to be able to reach, but that also needs to be up and away from a certain two year old.

The right side of Addie’s closet is for all of her dresses.
This girl loves a good dress.  :)  I put the fall/winter dresses on top.

Summer dresses down below.  We are still wearing sleeveless stuff around here.  It has been so hot lately!

Below the shelves are some drawers that were way too stuffed full of clothes before.  Not anymore!  The drawers in her closet hold:

 Swimsuits.
Ballet clothes and tights.
Beach summer camp suits on the right and our sad “winter wear” on the left.
HA!  Yup.  That’s all we’ve got.

I cleaned out so many clothes that by the time I finished I had two empty drawers!  Love that.  I’m sure they will be filled soon, but what a nice feeling in the mean time.

Addison also has a dresser in her room so I went through those clothes as well (seriously, this little project took several days!).

 Top drawer holds pajamas.

 Next drawer holds skirts.
I use the Dream Drawer Dividers in a lot of my drawers.  In this drawer they separate leggins/capris from Ad’s socks and underwear.  Do you love the cloud over her underwear?  Figured I don’t need to air all of our dirty laundry on this blog.
K.  That was a bad joke.  It’s past midnight right now so I get a pass.

Next drawer down holds pants.  Which my girls don’t love so I don’t buy much of them.

The bottom drawer is still where we keep the barbie dolls.
When I straighten things up they look like the picture above.

Then days later they look like this again.  It’s ok.  I’m good with chaos.  As long as it’s controlled chaos.

:)

p.s  This week has been busy with new house stuff so if you’ve emailed me and haven’t heard back I’m so sorry and I will get back to you – probably over the weekend.  After I de-stress from this week by re-organizing our junk drawer.  :)

Enjoy your Thursday everyone!

Ramblings

A sad day

Hi everyone!  I was planning on posting something quite different than what I’m sharing tonight.  My mom called me this afternoon to tell me she had been evacuated from her home.  It has been raining steadily since Sunday in my hometown and the rain caused a huge dike to break.  My mom’s home wasn’t hit, but many close friends’ and neighbors’ homes were destroyed.  It has been so sad today hearing the news about the flood and seeing how many of our friends were affected.  My dad, along with others, spent the day shoveling mud out of a close friends home.  Luckily no one was hurt, but so many homes/belongings have been ruined.  My mom said they were told to evacuate so quickly they didn’t have time to grab much.  She grabbed a quilt my grandma made and a diet coke.  That made me smile.  Way to prioritize mom.  :)  The dike is located right next to where I went to High School (I’ve walked over it hundreds of times) and when I saw the news clip today I couldn’t believe it!  So much water.  It was heartbreaking seeing my beautiful home town in such a sad state.  I feel like I need to be there helping in some way.

Click here to watch a news clip of the dike that broke and some of the homes that were flooded if you are interested.

I don’t really know why I’m blogging about this except that this blog is always a reflection of what’s on my mind and right now, this is all I can think about.  I woke up feeling sad this morning remembering September 11th.  Then this happened and officially made it a very sad day for me.  Hope your day went better than mine!  I am going to bed tonight grateful that my family and friends are safe.  And hoping that things will feel a bit more sunny tomorrow.

Favorite Fall Posts

It’s happening!  Football has been on all weekend, my pumpkin spice candle is emanating the most intoxicating scent, and Kenny is right now at this very moment working on our Fall line-up (a spread sheet he creates to organize/plan all of the TV shows we record on our DVR this time of year).  Let the season begin!  Who doesn’t love Fall!?  Such a great time of year.  We always have warm Fall weather in San Diego (and the leaves on our Palm trees don’t budge) so I try to bring as much “Fall” into my home each year as I possibly can.  To get excited for the upcoming season, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of my favorite posts from last Fall.  (You can click on the link below the pictures for the full post with more details.)  YEA!  Seeing all of these pictures again makes me want to break out the gourds, hang the Fall wreath on the door, and buy some Halloween candy!  Fall 2012.  If all goes as planned it will be our last Fall in this house.  I know it will be a special one.  :)

And last but not least, the link below is to my favorite quote which seems especially appropriate this time of year:
{Let Gratitude Be Your Attitude}

Enjoy and Happy Fall!

A favorite Target find (to-do notepad)

Thanks for all of the sweet comments yesterday!  So much fun hearing from all of you.  Well worth dealing with all of the spam.  :)  I’m popping in quick today to share my new favorite Target find.  Because what fun is a new Target find if you don’t share it with everyone else?

You all know that I love a good to-do list.  My time management binder is never too far out of reach.
Usually I use my sticky notes to organize my “to buy” lists.
I love that I can grab the list and toss it in my purse when I’m heading to a specific store.
Well last week while I was in Target I noticed this fun notepad and had to have it!
So stylish and I love its simplicity.

Two lists: TO BUY and TO DO.  You can tear the page off and tear apart the separate lists if you wanted to take one or both of them with you.  I still use my time management binder most of the time, but once in a while on busy days I have loved jotting down my TO DO’s and TO BUY’s on this little baby.  It even has a place to the side for your check mark {done – check!}.  Could it be any more simple and efficient?  I think not.  GO Target.  Or should I say GO TO Target.  And get one of these notepads.  A very happy purchase indeed.  The end.
Enjoy your weekend everyone!

New House

We have frames! (house details and 15 years)

Well.  In one hour it will be September 6th.  And September 6, 2012 happens to be mine and Kenny’s 15th anniversary.   I was going to do a fun anniversary post, but aside from the usual craziness a typical Wednesday brings, Kenny and I have spent most of our day discussing fireplaces with our builder, architect, designer and framers.  And now it’s late and Kenny is asleep on the couch and I should be asleep on the couch so an anniversary post isn’t going to happen.  But that’s ok.  Because our 15 year anniversary post would look a lot like our 13 year anniversary post since we haven’t changed much in the last forever.  We have decided to celebrate huge this year.  By giving each other a new house.  And maybe dinner for two.  :)

(Kenny – I still love you most.  And if we are still married by the time this house is built we are going to celebrate big time.  Probably by buying window coverings.  But at least the house will be finished.  And we will still be together.  Finishing each other’s sentences, trying to outwit each other with sarcasm, faking our way through parenting and arguing over who is a better driver.  When we both know it’s me.  Keep your eye on the prize.)

I know – how romantic, right?  That driving comment is going to infuriate my husband so this should be fun.  I’ll get an earful after he reads this post tomorrow about how I drive too fast and ignore speed bumps and make my passengers feel like they are on a roller coaster.  I’ll have you all know that aside from Kenny I’ve never had a passenger complain.  Sure my passengers are all 8 years old and under, but still…
Anyway.  On to the house!  We have frames!  So exciting.  Here are some pics I’ve taken over the past few days…
Kenny’s office is popping out on the far left.  Front door/entry where the silver beams are.  Formal dining to the right of the front door.  We had quite a debate over that formal dining room when we designed the house.  I didn’t want one.  There is nothing formal about dining with me.  :)  I think it’s a room that sits and hardly gets used.  BUT.  Kenny wants to be able to entertain for his work and have formal dinners so we added the formal dining.  Hope his clients enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches.

When you walk in the entry you can see straight into the formal living room which has a wall of french doors.  I wanted to walk in the front door and immediately see the yard and pool.

I took this picture today and the framers had finished a bit more.
This is a view from the back yard.  Our master bedroom is to the right of Kenny.
Kenny is standing where the french doors in the formal living room will be.
We are going to have a back porch (you can kind of see the cement posts where the pillars will be).
They also started framing the garages today!  Yea for progress!
The master bedroom.

K – I didn’t mean to do this but how cool is this picture!?  Looks like Kenny is tiny and walking on our window.   Clearly I have mad photography skills.  Or I just take so many pictures that something cool is bound to pop up in a photograph every now and again.  Nah.  Mad photography skills.

(It’s my anniversary, humor me.)

And in other house related news I am still in the process of figuring out wood floors.  We ordered a box of some that we really like and I laid it out in my kitchen to get a feel for it.  It’s nice seeing it during different times of the day and in different lighting.

I’m looking for floors that have wide planks, that are distressed, and dark but not too dark.  The sample to the right has a little too much red in it for me.  I still don’t know if this is the one.  Much to Kenny’s dismay.  He could care less what we get.  He just wants decisions made.

I decided I’d try the fishy cracker test on my samples…

 Floor sample #1

 Floor sample #2

I wanted to see how the floor will really look.
:)
p.s.  Some of you have asked me why we didn’t build a basement.  Good question!  Nobody has them around here!  It’s mostly because of our mild climate, but there are other reasons too.  Instead of boring you all with the details, you can read this article if you are interested.
p.p.s.  Some of you have mentioned the word verification being a pain when you are trying to leave a comment.  I agree!  Those codes drive me nuts!  I took it off once but received so many spam comments I had to put it back on.  I’m taking it off again because I love hearing from you all and I don’t want it to be difficult for you to leave a comment (or too time consuming), but if I get flooded with spam comments again I’ll have to put it back on.  We’ll see how it goes!
Enjoy your day!  September 6th is a good one.

Scrapbooking

Kole’s album (off to a good start!)

Sharing a couple of scrapbook layouts today!  Yes.  You heard me.  Its been a while, right?  It is harder than ever for me to fit in time for scrapbooking, but a couple of weeks ago when I mentioned taking the night off from blogging to do some layouts for Kole’s book it felt so good.  I miss it!  And I decided I’m going to have to make it a priority to find some time.  Even if it’s only enough time for a layout or two a month.  I am so behind on my girls’ albums and poor Kole only has a handful of pages for his baby album.  I had no clue where to even start!  So I just decided to start with Kole’s one year old birthday.  I set a goal.  A really simple goal for this year because we are so busy with the new house.  My goal is to catch up and stay caught up with Kole’s album (starting at age one).  Someday when he is in preschool and I have a little more time I can go back to complete his baby book (birth to age 1) and I can work on catching up the girls’ albums.  This should be attainable because I’m keeping things simple and not scrapbooking every single picture I’ve taken of the little dude (or even 1/3 of them).  As you know I’ve taken a lot.  :)
A while ago I ordered the Turquoise Edition of Project Life.  Since then Becky has come out with a newer binder that I’m tempted to get!  (Smaller binding and a side label this album doesn’t have.)  But whether I stick with the old binder or get the new one, this is the kit I’m using for Kole’s album starting at year one.
First layout of his one year old birthday party…
The blue number one I cut out from one of his birthday cards.

I had an extra 4×6 slot so I used a large journaling card to display his year one stats.  All of my babies had huge heads!  They get it from Kenny.  I’d say it’s because they are all so smart, but I have a small head so I’m not going to say that.  Even though I just did.  I do have big hair though – does that count?

I still need to print out this post to add to his album with his birthday layout.  It’s written by Kole himself so I think it’s an important addition.  :)

The next layout is just some random pics from March/April (around his birthday)…

This boy still LOVES to swing!
I spelled out “spring” with just some random stickers I had on hand.

These pictures of him in his frog towel are some of my favorites so I didn’t want to shrink them down to 4×3 like I do with most of my vertical pictures.  So I ordered some new page protectors (Design B) with the large vertical 4×6 slots.  Perfect!

Then below I just turned the journaling cards the other way and attached some smaller pics.
Simple.  Easy.  DONE.
My favorite kind of scrapbooking these days.
Hope it won’t be another year before I share more!
Enjoy your week everyone!

Ellie and Addison

2nd day of school

I tried to get a few pics of the girls on their second day of school.  Love the look on Ellie’s face. “Seriously mom?  A picture right now?  When I have such a busy social life waiting for me on the playground!?”  Tick tock…
Then a certain someone escaped out the back door in his pj’s and insisted on being a part of the action.

Hope you enjoy the long weekend!
Looking forward to another day off with these three monkeys.

fun finds

Favorites on Friday

Happy Friday friends!  It was so fun hearing from so many of you yesterday!  Your “boy” stories cracked me up.  I’m so glad I’m not alone!  That thought brought me comfort today while I cleaned up destroyed spaces and chased my wild 2 year old up and down our street (he has learned how to escape out the front door so if I forget to lock it I can plan on a good workout at some point).  The good news is that I don’t have to go to the gym to stay in shape.  Kole has taken my workouts to a whole new level!  :)
Sharing a few more favorites today!
I have had zero time for cooking dinner lately (not that I would even if I had the time – ha!) so here are a few of my favorite quick and easy go-to’s for dinner.
A lot of mornings I toss some chicken in the crock pot.  Then I shred it around dinner time.

Then I toss some of this Sweet Baby Ray’s Barbecue Sauce over it.  I love BBQ sauce and this is by far my favorite store bought sauce.  Toss the BBQ chicken in a roll, boil some corn on the cob and dinner. is. served.  DONE.

Another one of my favorite go-to’s for quick dinners is “boil-in-bag” rice.  LOVE this stuff.  You pull out the bag and plop it in some boiling water.  It’s done in 10 minutes.  Cut the bag open and let the rice sit for a bit to cool and wa-la!  Easy, tasty rice that was no mess to cook.  (The “no mess” is my favorite part.)

I did make one new recipe last week.  Crock Pot Chicken Fajitas and they were SO good.  You can find the recipe here.  A total Erin recipe.  Easy and fool proof.  Great for leftovers.  They reminded me a little of my Mexican Chalupa’s.  Have you tried those yet?  They are SO good and easy and fool proof too.
Other favorites include:

Better Homes and Gardens Kitchen and Bath magazines.  I can’t get enough of them!  I am always drawn to the same things in kitchen/bath photographs which makes me feel a lot more confident in the way I am designing our new house.

Cetaphil lotion and daily facial miosturizer/sunscreen.  This stuff is THE BEST.  I mentioned in my make-up post that I wear sunscreen every single day under my make-up and Cetaphil is my favorite.  I have to wear sunscreen daily because my skin is so fair and I live in such a sunny climate.  Best secret to looking young – wear your sunscreen.  Or so I’m told.  :)  My dermatologist recommended Cetaphil for daily sunscreen (and lotion) use.  A little bit goes a long way so one bottle lasts a long time.  It has a little shine to it which I like because I have dry skin.  It gives my skin a bit of a glow!  I always order it through Amazon (I included the link above) because I can’t ever find the facial moisturizer in stores.

Another favorite product of mine is regular old Pond’s cold cream.  Several of you tried my favorite mascara out and loved it (YEA!  Makes me so happy!) but wondered how I remove it.  Pond’s is the best for removing make-up.  I’ve tried several other products for removing make-up but always come back to Pond’s.  I use this every night to remove my make-up before I wash my face.

These are my favorite newish pajamas that I have LIVED IN this summer when I’m home.  I bought them at the Gap Outlet and the material is so soft and comfy and stretchy.  I never want to take them off!  Another favorite are my Ugg house shoes.  A fun Christmas gift last year.  I know.  You’re thinking who wears Ugg house shoes in August?  Um that would be me.  Weather doesn’t change that much around here and my kitchen tile is so hard and cold.  I always like house shoes on when I’m home.  I’m excited to put less tile and more wood in my new house.  But I bet I still wear the house shoes.  :)

Close-up of the print on the pajama pants.  Grey with coral flowers.  Cute, right!?  They make me want to join Ellie in her crusade to pass a law declaring that every day be pajama day.

I know I mentioned my favorite cereal Bran Chex in my last favorites post but I have to also say how much I love the containers that hold them.  I found these at the Container Store and this one container holds three boxes of Bran Chex!  Talk about a space saver.

Really ALL of my pantry containers and baskets are favorites of mine.  This is by far my favorite organized space.  I love that it looks good but is also so practical and easy to keep organized.  The OXO containers have been perfect for keeping food fresh and visible.  I doubled my pantry space when I got rid of the boxes and started using these containers.  WOOT WOOT!  Love them all.  (You can see where I bought all of my pantry containers in this post).

We bought these necklaces for the girls on our back to school shopping spree.  They are from Justice and my girls begged me to buy them.  It wasn’t a hard sale because I love the necklaces too.

The relationship these two have is one of my favorite things.
My favorite of all the favorites.  :)
Addison likes to wear them both.

We always tell her how special and lucky she is because she gets to be a little sister and a big sister.
My last favorite I don’t have a photo for.  The girls and I have been doing a lot of dancing in the kitchen lately and I have to say that our daily jam sessions have become a favorite part of my day.  Some of our dancing is choreographed.  Some of it is on the fly.  We even sing a bit too.  Oh yes.  We do it all.  Our recent favorite song to dance to is Run the World (Girls) by Beyonce.  (Who runs the world?  GIRLS. GIRLS!  Who runs the world? GIRLS. GIRLS!)  I’ve thought about filming our jam sessions to share with you, but frankly I just don’t think you all could handle it.
We’ve got moves that would blow your mind.
;)
Happy weekend everyone!
xoxo, Erin
Kole

And the toddler strikes again

Ok.  I distinctly remember that when my girls turned around age 2 1/2 life with little ones started easing up a bit.  Yes, they were 2 and very much had minds of their own, but still, I remember them starting to entertain themselves for longer periods of time.  They would sit and look at a book.  Or play with their dolls.  Or color a picture.  Or watch a short show on TV.  So as Kole nears the 2 1/2 mark I find myself often wondering WHEN IN THE WORLD IS THIS KID GOING TO SLOW DOWN!!??

Yes.  He’s cute.  I’ll give him that.  But FOR THE LOVE!  This kid doesn’t stop!  He has two speeds – fast and faster.  He ran away from me in the grocery store today and I swear I wished I would have had on my Nikes.  If only you all could have witnessed the chase scene that ensued.  Up and down the isles, around grocery carts, through the check out counter.
Then we get home and he operates under two settings: mom needs to constantly entertain me OR I’ll entertain myself.
And here’s how my little buddy entertains himself…

He is obsessed with moving all of the couch pillows and stacking them together on one couch.

You might think this is lousy photography, but no.  This is just my boy stacking at lightning speed.  (And ok – slightly lousy photography.)  He does this with all of the upstairs pillows on the beds too.  Moves them all to my bed in a big heap.  As soon as he sees I’ve put them back, he gets to work stacking them all in one place again.

So I’ve given up and if you drop by to see me, this is what you will be greeted with.
Once the pillows are on their designated couch he moves on to the shoes in the garage.
Above is the “before” and below is the “after.”
Clearly he doesn’t get the whole “before and after” concept since he is taking my organized spaces and DESTROYING THEM.
I clean up this mess at least three times a day.
If I didn’t need the shoes out of the way to drive I wouldn’t bother.
And now today.  His latest trick.
Remember how I cleaned out my girls’ book shelf?
And I categorized everything so neatly and gave all of the books a happy home?
Kole decided the books needed a new happy home.  On the floor.  I knew there was going to be trouble when I found myself cooking dinner tonight without Kole under my feet.  He did this in a matter of minutes and then moved on to “entertain himself” in the next room.

A couple of weeks ago while we were at a picnic for one of the girls’ summer camps Kole kept himself busy with the sidewalk chalk.

He was such a mess that Kenny took off his clothes before we got to the car.

Then Kole decided it was his turn to do the chasing.

He was thrilled to have his clothes off.  They clearly do nothing but weigh him down.

Yup.  Doesn’t look like things are slowing down any time soon.

Organized outfits for school

First day of school was a success!

My little divas had a fabulous day.  Loved their teachers.  Loved seeing all of their friends again.  Loved their new sparkly shoes that light up with each step signaling to the world that they are coming a mile away.  I loved seeing them so happy.  And I loved having an hour and a half of peace during Kole’s nap (bliss!).  And I loved that I didn’t get nearly as emotional as I usually do.  A few tears, but nothing I couldn’t hide under my sunglasses.  Like I said – the day was a success!

I got lots of questions yesterday about where I shop for my girls.  Nothing special.  I just head to the mall.  All of the malls in San Diego are outdoor malls.  They are very sunny, happy places to be.  :)  Here is a breakdown of where I bought the outfits in the picture I shared:

My go to stores for my girls are Gap Kids (has always been my favorite), Children’s Place (hit and miss), Gymboree, and lately Justice (Addison’s favorite – she loves anything that sparkles!).  Once in a while I check out Old Navy.  I had coupons to all of these stores so we got the girls some fun stuff for the school year.
I mentioned in my “Back to School Checklist” post that I was trying to find a way to organize my girls school clothes for the week.  I really needed to come up with something to reduce the drama each morning that usually takes place when it’s time to figure out what to wear.  I had seen so many fun ideas on Pinterest and was going to come up with  something really beautiful and spectacular.  Then I remembered that I have no time right now for beautiful and spectacular so instead I did what I do have time for: easy and practical.  I had the girls pick out their outfits for the week including socks and accessories.

Then I grabbed some scissors, a black marker and some gallon sized Ziploc bags that I had on hand.

I wrote each day of the week on the bags (twice so El and Ad each have their own) and then cut a small hole in them to slip the hanger through.  LOVE IT!  The bags hold their socks and accessories and remind my girls what they are wearing each day.

El’s first day outfit ready to go!

 Addison’s too!

A few more examples:

The bags are big and strong enough to also hold things like leggings and skirts.
Whatever doesn’t go on the hanger fits in the bag!

El’s outfits for the first week.  They are all Ellie approved: extremely comfortable.
Ad’s outfits for the first week.  They are all Addison approved: extremely fashionable.

My girls never change.  :)

A lot of the ideas I’d seen on Pinterest were great, but took up too much closet space.  I love that the outfits/bags fit nicely in the girls’ closets and everything we need is all in one place ready to go!  I also love that this didn’t cost a cent and took me about two minutes to put together.  I’m so excited about my new system for organizing outfits!  One more way to minimize stress in the morning.  Which we desperately need.  Because a certain two year old is so good at maximizing it.

I guess easy and practical isn’t so bad after all.
 :)
