Insulation, drywall, siding and a question

Just popping in quickly to share a few recent house pics.  Sorry this week is house heavy on the blog.  It is all consuming at this stage!

Two weeks ago everything was insulated.  Above is a picture of the playroom and the playroom closet.  A happy place for my kids to play and for me to organize all of their toys.  :)

Soon after insulation a huge crew moved in and started drywall.

The drywall will be completely done by Friday and then another inspection.  Just a few weeks and we will start installing bathroom tile and cabinets!  We will also start the finish work!  Then my house pictures will be a bit more fun to look at.  :)

The outside of the house was completely wrapped and there are holes and tunnels all over the back and side yard for pool and landscaping.

My porch pillars are framed!  In the back…

and in the front.

And one of my copper roofs is installed.  Fun!  Because of our coastal weather the copper won’t take long to patina so it will only be this shiny and bright for 3-4 months.
At some point it will be a nice blackish color.
At least that’s what I hope it does.  :)
Then sheets of siding were brought in…
and installed!  YEA!  We have siding!  And I know what you’re thinking – a yellow house?  Not so much.  Just the color of the siding before it’s primed and painted.  The siding will be a nice grey at some point with lots of white trim.

The sides of the house are almost finished and they are moving around to the front and back tomorrow.

Kole’s pop out window.  :)  The siding is moving fast.  It amazes me how much is done each day.  I love to pop in to check on the progress.

And to shoot the breeze with these two.  OK.  I know I keep saying how much I love hanging out with everyone working on the house and how amazing everyone has been but I have to say it one more time.  My siding guys are THE BEST.  So friendly.  And hilarious!  I knew the second I met them we were going to get along famously.  They are so happy and funny.  They sing.  And tell stories.  And we ponder and discuss life’s mysteries.  And then I ohh and ahh at their work.  And offer to bring them food.  But they never let me.  Because they are so nice and hard working.  And funny.  Did I mention they are so funny!?  They really are.
K – so I have a question for all of you and I would really love and appreciate your feedback!
Should I keep the house yellow?
No.  I’m kidding.  :)
Here’s the real question.
I’ve mentioned before a time or twenty that I don’t have as much time for my blog right now.
When the house is built (and new house stuff isn’t eating away so much of my evenings) I will be able to blog more, but for the next 5-6 months I have been debating a few options.
I will still blog as much as I can, but on days that I don’t have time to post which would you prefer?
OPTION 1 a guest post – I receive emails often with people offering to guest post on my blog.  I’ve been hesitant to start guest posting because personally when I visit a person’s blog I want to hear from that person, not someone else.  But I’m wondering what your take is on that?  Do you enjoy guest posts?  (Obviously if I decided to do this it would just be once in a while and I would be selective and only post things I think you would enjoy).
OPTION 2a re-run – it is so easy to re-post something I’ve posted before.  Are the re-runs fun or not so much?
and OPTION 3  just post nothing.  Crickets anyone??  :)
Just curious what your opinion is.  Thanks so much for taking a minute to give me your two cents!  I always love to hear from the incredibly sweet and intelligent people reading my blog.  Am I buttering you all up in hopes to hear from you?  You bet I am.  :)

Happy Thursday friends.

Iphone round up!

Happy Monday everyone!  Dumping some recent pics from my iPhone today.
No theme or particular order.  Just things that I’ve been up to.  :)
First some new house pics…
Lots of time has been spent in the tile stores.  I’m done designing bathrooms!  Tile order will be placed this week.  It feels so good to have that behind me.  I’ll share more details at some point.  I could blog about that little undertaking for a week!
Still not finished with lighting, but what I do have picked out I am so excited about!
I will share pics when I have everything finalized.

We have chosen our stone for the exterior and this week I picked out the brick.

This is the winner and while I really like it, I hope it isn’t too light.  We only have a small amount of brick on the house (a border above the rock) so if this doesn’t work hopefully it won’t look too bad.  It’s so easy to pick my favorite of everything.  Making sure it will all look good once it’s together?  Not so easy.  On a lot of these decisions I am just flying blind and hoping everything works out!  :)

My dutch door is done!  YEA!!  So exciting.
It’s obviously not painted yet but I’m already so in love with it!  I adore the square windows and shelf.
Now I just need to pick a fun color for it!

A blurry pic of me with my designer and cabinet guy.  Love these two.  I could hang out with them in the wood mill all day long.  Oh my word that place smells good!  Nothing like the smell of freshly cut wood (especially when it’s freshly cut wood for my doors and cabinets!).

And in other news…

I’ve gained four pounds.  Crap.  Total stress eating and not enough time to exercise.  Jeans are getting tight.  I’m trying to do better this week!  My fajitas

and my salad in a tortilla are go to healthy recipes I’m going to make.

Plus I’m hoping my new cup will help me drink more water.  I LOVE this cup.  I found it at Staples but I’ve seen them all over.  It keeps your drink cold.  I carry it all around the house with me when I’m home and take it with me in my car on the go.

Also at Staples I found this adorable little aqua lined pouch.  It matched my planner so I couldn’t leave the store without it.  :)

It lives in my purse holding my go to purse make-up.  I love it because I don’t have to fish around for chap stick when I need it.  I just reach in my purse and grab the zipper pouch.

I also added these soft pick tooth pics to my mini make up bag.  Perfect for when you are out and about and have something stuck in your teeth.  Hate that.  These soft picks are the best!

And last but far from least, a quick pic I snapped with my phone today after church.  El received an award for reading the Book of Mormon.  (Kids in our church are encouraged to read it when they turn 8).  And she did it!  It took a year and a bit of help from dad but she set a goal and she did it.  I’m so proud of her.  Kenny teases me that now her scripture knowledge has surpassed mine.  That’s ok.  I know I’m a work in progress.  :)  Plus I don’t take anything my husband says too seriously.  This is coming from the guy that just spent the evening watching Battleship – thumping his chest and going on and on about how it is the best movie ever – right up there with Armageddon – and how it hands down will receive an Oscar this year.
Yup.  Hows my scripture knowledge sounding now?
Happy Monday Friends!
p.s.  Yellow stripes for the girls today.  Can you tell I am ready for Spring!?

Fashion Friday! (re-run)

Happy Friday friends!  Posting a Fashion Friday re-run for fun!  This post was written in October 2011 so the clothes I’m wearing aren’t exactly current.  :)  But I still wear a lot of them and since it’s Friday I figured it would be fun to pull out a Fashion Friday post from the good old archives.  Many of you have mentioned that you miss Fashion Friday posts and I do too!  I actually have so many pics of my current clothes sitting in a “Fashion Friday” folder on my computer.  I just never have time to sort through and post them.  Plus I started feeling a little silly posting so many pics of me in front of my boring bathroom mirror.  :)  But sometime soon I may get over it and find an extra hour and shock you all with a current Fashion Friday.  Until then, here is a blast from the past.  Enjoy your weekend everyone!

What a week!  And it’s only going to get crazier!  Is everyone ready for the Halloween madness that is about to ensue?  We have several parties on the weekend’s agenda.  YEA.  One I have to bake something for.  BOO.  I’m quite sure a good time will be had by all.  Despite the baking.  But before it’s time to costume up, here are a few things I’ve been wearing lately.

First I’m sharing some of the purses I’ve been using this Fall.  I never spend a crazy amount of money on purses because I like to mix it up and use a different one about every other week.  A lot of times I’ll use the same one for a few weeks during the day, but switch purses when we go out at night on the weekend.  Here are a few of my recent favorites…

My go to when I’m wearing grey.

This brown hobo purse is a fall favorite (sorry you can’t see it great, this was the only picture I had of it.  But how perfect that it is sitting next to some Christmas scrapbook supplies!)  I love this purse because it’s big and aside from holding my regular wallet, sunglasses, keys, it also holds the sippy cup, the binkie, and the fishy crackers.
Love this purse I bought last Fall at The Limited.
Mostly because of all of the organizers inside of the purse.  When I was a little girl one of my favorite things to do was to organize purses.  My mom would buy herself a new one and then just hand it over to me.  I remember sitting on the carpet beyond giddy organizing all of her credit cards, lipsticks, and loose change.  Yes.  I had one happy childhood.  :)  (Oprah “ah ha” moment… beginning to realize why it’s so fun for me to switch out my purses so often….)

This purse used to belong to my sister.  But then I saw it and fell in LOVE with it.  Isn’t it fabulous with that orange lining and green zipper and stitching!?  My sister agreed it was way more of an Erin purse than a Carly purse.  So after she used it for a few months, she mailed it to me.  That was several years ago and I’ve used it every Fall ever since!  It’s too small for every day, but I use it a lot when I go out.

Another forever favorite.  My one other splurge from our trip to Italy four years ago.

Had to get a purse to go with the boots.
Nothing like a fun purse to complete your outfit.
Now on to the outfits!
When we went to New York I wore a black dress to see The Lion King.  I had actually just bought it the day before!  While shopping on 5th Avenue I stopped by Ann Taylor Loft and they had so many things on sale.  This was a 90 dollar dress on sale for 40 dollars and they only had two left.  One of them was my size!  Oh happy day!  Love it when that happens.

I loved the scoop neck and knew that my black belt would be a perfect accessory!
You can’t go wrong with a simple black dress and while I already own a few, they are all short sleeved.  Not only is this long sleeved and warm, but it is so comfortable!  Soft, cozy material.  I feel like I’m in lounge clothes in this dress.  I wore it last week to church with black boots.  Not because it was cold, but because my legs were too scary white to wear my heels.  True story.

Wanna hear the best part about this dress?  When I got up to the counter to pay for it, it rang up for 24 dollars!!  The sales lady said it was marked down again!  I seriously could not believe my luck.  I loved my simple black dress so much, I would have paid 90 for it!  The heavens opened at that moment and I knew.  I knew it was going to be a good shopping day.

Speaking of scoop necks, I wore this simple grey scoop neck top this week.  Bought it last year at Express?  Maybe Limited.  One of the two.

Wore it with dark skinny jeans and my grey boots.  I’m starting to get so bored with pictures of myself in this mirror that I find myself trying to mix things up.  A different pose, maybe twist the camera the opposite way.  I know.  I’m wild and crazy like that.
But wait.  Something is missing from my usual bathroom mirror shots…

There’s my little fashion buddy.  Now this post is complete.  :)
A few of you asked about my cowl neck sweater from my “bad weekend turned good post.”  Bought it from The Limited last year.  Love the color of that sweater.  I also loved all of your comments on that post!  You were all so sweet and funny.  It was fun hearing from so many of you!
{Ariel says thanks too :)}

Another simple sweater.  I like the button on the neck.  This one is from Banana Republic.  Funny.  When Car and I were in New York we walked in a Banana Republic and both said at the same time “ahh…feels like home!”  We love that store.

Wore it with my Citizens and wedges.
This is a top I’ve had for a couple of years from Forever 21.
Fun sleeves and a belt.  Do you feel like my Fashion Friday posts are Groundhog Day all over again?  Just call me Bill Murray.

For part of one day last week I wore it like this.

In the morning and evening when it was cooler, I added this blazer over the top.  Another New York find.  This is so NOT something I would normally buy.  But.  On What Not to Wear, I’ve noticed that Stacey and Clinton are always talking about layering and how this type of thing is a must for every woman’s wardrobe.  Plus my sister made me buy it.  She wears a lot of stuff like this because she is a working mom who spends time in an office.  I’m a working mom who spends time at the park and I was worried I would feel too dressed up/stuffy in this for my day to day activities.

But I did love the color and I did love the lining so I bought it in an attempt to branch out from my clothes comfort zone!  And because my sister can be extremely persuasive when she wants to be.

And I actually really liked the way it looked.  It took the place of a jacket and was warm in the morning before the sun peeked through the clouds.  I didn’t love these boots with it though.  I’m hunting for some dark brown flat boots that are good for every day.  Hopefully Santa will find just the pair!  With a little guidance of course.

The whole time I wore this I was feeling a little too dressy and wishing I had on different boots and thinking “I bet this is the last time I ever wear this.”  Then I went to Costco and the man standing in line behind me said “I wish my girlfriend would wear boots like those.”  I thanked him and we started chatting.  Kole was being his charming self so the man was entertaining him and asked if I had other kids.  When I told him I had three he said “you don’t look like you could have had three kids!”  I kindly thanked him again, paid for my groceries with a big smile on my face and walked out of the store thinking “hmmm… maybe I actually will wear this again.”
Like tomorrow.
And the day after that.
And maybe the day after that too.

Shoe/Coat/Backpack organization

Hi everyone!  Popping in with our third post for re-run week!  I have to say that I’m having fun pulling up past posts.  :)  And I have had such a productive week!  So many new house decisions have been made and I am getting really excited.  So thank you for being supportive of the re-runs.  :)  I’ll share a new house update next week with the latest.  Right now I’m sharing a past post on how I organize my shoes in my current house because I spent some time today finalizing the design on my new mudroom.  To say I’m excited about that space would be a huge understatement!  Since I have been thinking a lot about shoe/coat/backpack organization I thought it would be fun to re-visit what is working for us now in our current house.  Which as you know, does not have a mudroom.  :)  I truly believe you can turn just about any little wall, nook or whatever you can come up with into a nice dropping spot for shoes, coats, etc.  I hope this post gives you a few ideas!
I dream of having a mudroom.  A big beautiful mudroom complete with lockers and shoe drawers.  And in our next house, I will hopefully have more room than I currently do to make that happen.  But for now, the only place for shoes, coats, and backpacks is in our garage.  I shared how I organize our shoes a while ago when I did a post on garage organization.  That was working ok…but a little something made me decide to re-think things.  And that little something would be the new mini van.  Since I’m now a mini van mom (sad how easily that rolls off my tongue these days) the new ride is taking up more space in the garage than the old one leaving no space between it and the shoes.  Luckily the van beeps like crazy every time I park so I am able to avoid hitting the shoe rack, just not able to avoid the beeping van headache that often follows.

Plus having our shoes this close to the door always resulted in a messy pile of shoes just waiting to be tripped on.

Plus I bought the girls new summer flip flops.  And flip flops this cute just seemed to need a fun new home!  Plus let’s face it.  I was just in the mood to organize something.

I didn’t do anything major, but just a little rearranging made a huge difference!

Wa-la!  I bought one more shoe rack and moved all of the shoes from the front of the garage to the side under the racks we use to store garage tools, coats and backpacks.  As cute as the mudroom I’ve designed in my head?  No.  As practical as the mudroom I’ve designed in my head?  Definitely.

Do you love how our coats are mixed in with yard tools?  Ha!  Lovely I know.  If we were planning on staying in this house longer, I would have put in a new rack and separated things better, but I’m still holding out hope that we’ll find a house we love sometime in the near future and this set up works great in the meantime.

I decided to bring down all of the girls shoes from their bedroom to free up more space in their closets. Most of mine and Kenny’s shoes are in our closet other than our “slip on quick and go shoes” (Uggs for three months out of the year and flip flops for the other nine)

Speaking of flip flops, this fun little basket is a new home for ours!  So easy for the kids to grab and go AND easy for them to keep picked up and put away.

All boots fit on the top shelf.  Want to see my secret for keeping boots standing up straight and tall?

Floppy boots bother me so I’ve always just stuffed a few paper towels in them!  When Jen posted on her shoe organization, she mentioned using magazines for her boots.  I loved that I wasn’t the only person bothered by floppy boots!  And magazines are another great solution!
Want to see my favorite part about my new little shoe system?

When the kids come home from school, the van door opens, kids step out, and immediately put their shoes away on the rack.  They empty backpacks and hang them along with their jackets.  The “after school mess” is taken care of before my kids even enter the house!

No shoes come in the house, no shoes in front of the door to trip on.  I had to snap these pictures so quick to catch Ellie in action!  Luckily she’s so used to me taking pictures of every mundane thing we do she didn’t even question why I was running around snapping pictures of her taking off her shoes from all angles.  All par for the course around here!  :)
Our Bougainvillea vine, while beautiful on the outside of our garage…
always creates a lovely mess for me on the inside of our garage.  I have to sweep the garage out at least every other week.  So worth it though.  I just love that vine!
Then I bought a new rug that matches the one in my kitchen to complete my little project.
Now that my shoes are out of the way it feels like the mini van was made for my garage!

See what I mean…rollin’ right off the tongue…
