Sunny Side Up 2016 Year Review

Happy 2017 everyone!  I’m so excited to kick off a new year with all of you!  Fun things in store. :)  But first.. my annual year review!  Where I share a quick re-cap of what I shared on the blog in 2016.  Well… maybe “quick” isn’t the right description.. ha!  I really meant to only share the highlights.. apparently I found a few. ;)  So catch up on anything you missed, re-read your favorites, or just gear up for another fun year on the sunny side.  :)

We started January with a bang and got to the bottom of the 2 secrets to getting your home organized.  We’ll definitely be talking more about that this January!  Itching to organize around here. :)

Then I shared my organized luggage closet.  It has stayed clean this year.  Woot woot!

My oldest turned 12 and I shared pics of her birthday celebration.  (I can’t believe I’m going to have a teenager in a few weeks!  In total denial over here.. )

I shared some fun Valentine’s Decor and my organized butler’s pantry drawers.

The mudroom closet motivated me so I tackled the rest of the room!  Then I shared how I organized and decorated my mudroom with all of you.

In February I gave directions for how Addison and I made this cupcake valentine box (SO easy).

I had a fun planning session with a friend and shared some goal planning strategies and a to-do list that works.

Then I shared a fun February tradition we have in our house.  Bring on the love. :)

I got busy in the kitchen doing a little organizing.  Hoping to share the rest of my kitchen organization soon!

Then I took a break and went skiing with my crew and shared some fun pics from our trip.

And then shared a few pics from the following week we spent in Kauai.  Crazy year with our vacations back to back!  From snow suits to swim suits!

I kicked off March by sharing my decorated office/craft room.  One of my most popular posts from the year!  So happy you all liked it. :)

Then I had a heart to heart with all of you about my birthday and a haircut and shared some “life lately” pics.  Sounds thrilling I know.  Sometimes we do thrilling real well around here. ;)

We got started on Kole’s room by adding some shiplap (more to come on his room this year!) and my girls went on a special date with their dad.

I decorated my entry console table for Easter.. this makes me excited for Spring!

I ended the month by organizing my fridge and sharing a recipe.  Sometimes you need to forget Pinterest worthy pictures and just get the job done. ;)

In April I shared 5 ways to get your house ready for Spring!

And then gave my formal living room a little refresh for Spring!  Spring makes us want to re-fresh everything doesn’t it!?

Then I finally shared a long overdue post.. my favorite gray paint and all paint colors throughout my house!  I’ll be adding rooms and colors to this post this year.  :)

I ended April by sharing a simple Spring Tablescape in my formal dining room.

In May I kicked off the month with my simple and pretty jewelry organization.. one of my favorite projects of the year!

Then I shared pics from a fun girls trip to Naples with some blogging besties.

May is always a busy month for moms with the end of the year festivities so I shared a few ways I cope when I’m feeling overwhelmed!

Then I gave my kitchen a little re-fresh for Spring!

My mom retired after a career in education and I shared her retirement party pics on the blog.  Such a special day for our family!  She’s loving life right now btw.. retirement suits her. ;)

Another life lately post with all we were busy doing at the end of the school year.

Then I added some summer touches to my family room.

Followed by my summer powder bathroom re-fresh!  I did a lot of re-freshing last year, didn’t I?  :)

Time management and productivity are something I’m always trying to improve.  My visual to-do list helped immensely!  Still using it. :)

I shared pics of my parent’s treehouse.  A dream for the grand kids!

And also shared pics from our 4th of July and talked about what cheers me up immensely when I get home from a trip!

Several garage organization progress posts when down in 2016 and sharing our hidden garage storage was one of them.  MUST finish our garage this year.  Hold me to it friends!

Then I wrote one of my favorite posts from last year: 10 secrets that will help you keep your house clean once and for all!  Full disclosure in this post.  :)

The Nordstrom Anniversary sale hit in July (oh happy day!) and I shared my favorites here and here.

Then I finally added some decor to the hallway by my office by adding this hallway shelf.  Love this spot.  :)

We got our backyard ready for summer and I shared pics of a party we hosted for my husband’s work crew.

I shard pics from the Haven blog conference I attended and some thoughts on blogging along with thoughts on summer taking over.  It always does!

Then I wrote a post on our new shiplap display wall!  Lots of fun ideas for how to use something like this coming your way. :)

Back to school time always motivates me to get our closets cleaned out!  This last summer we attacked my girls’ closets with a vengeance!  And my label maker. :)  You can see Addison’s organized closet along with some general closet organization tips and tricks here.

Summer always ends too quickly!

I said good-bye to summer with a round up of summer pictures here.

In September I got the kids back to school and took pics of our outdoor pool bathroom to share with all of you.

Then I shared the desks we had made for my girls’ rooms.

And some Fall decorating tips and Ideas!

The month ended with the Better Homes and Gardens crew in my home taking pics of my kitchen organization for an upcoming Storage edition.  Excited for it to come out!

October is such a fun time of year!  We got in the mood for the season quickly with my  festive Halloween porch!

I shared one of my all time favorite decor items and several ways to use them.

Then I celebrated 3 years in our house with some fun new house posts!

Fall Fashion is my favorite and I shared a few favorites from Nordstrom here and here.

I switched my Spring tablescape to a simple, neutral Thanksgiving tablescape.

Then shared our family Halloween pics.  The law always wins at our house.  :)

I always love getting pictures from readers who have been inspired in some way by my blog.  In November I shared a round-up of reader favorites!  That was such a fun post so keep your pictures coming!

We also started decking the halls!

And Christmas pj’s were on repeat.  (Fashion and favorites)

I ended the month by sharing my annual Favorite Things post with gift ideas galore!

December was a decorating blur!  My favorite kind.  :)

I shared pics of our home decked for the holidays one room at a time and included links to all of my December posts in this Night Lights post.

Whew!  Now THAT was a round up!  2016 was a great year here at Sunny Side Up and I’m forever grateful for all of you who continue to read along and support me and this blog.  Cheers to a fabulous year and an ever better year ahead!

  1. What a fun virtual walk down memory lane! Wow, you sure did and shared a lot this year. Thanks for all that you do, Erin. Your positive attitude and upbeat personality are what keep me coming back day after day. That and your beautiful family, gorgeous house and wonderful organizing tips. It’s a winning combo! I hope 2017 bestows many more blessing upon you! Hugs! :)

    1. Thank you so much Jeanne! Your sweet words made my day! I’m so honored you spend some time here with me each day! Wishing you and your beautiful family the exact same. :) xo

  2. Such a fabulous year Erin!!! So glad we got to meet and get to know each other in real life!! You are such a special person to me and I can’t wait until we can hang out again soon❤

  3. Hi Erin,

I love your blog. I would have to reiterate what another reader said “Your positive attitude and upbeat personality are what keep me coming back day after day”. I really enjoy your posts on organisation (Australian spelling) and photos of your beautiful home.

At the start of last year you had a whole lot of organisation books you were going to read and possibly give us a little review about. I’d be very interested to hear what you had to say if you did get around to posting some reviews.

    Regards Sarah

    1. Thank you Sarah! What a sweet thing to say. It means so much to me that you enjoy my blog and keep coming back! And thank you for reminding me about those books! I have a list in front of me right now of post ideas for the new year and I will definitely add reviewing those books to the list! :) Wishing you a wonderful new year! xo

  4. Sometimes I wish you would post more often (although I totally get why you don’t…not sure how you care for your kids and family so well AND write your blog posts, answer so many emails and comments, etc. You’re super woman, that’s the only logical explanation;) ), but WOW I can’t believe how much you’ve shared this past year! It’s so fun looking back and revisiting some of your old posts. Thanks Erin for opening up your home and family to us all! I can’t wait to see what inspiration you bring in 2017 :)

    1. Julia! Your comment was so incredibly kind! Thank you! So much. I am hardly super woman but absolutely flattered that you would call me that. Thank you so much for reading and for your sweet, encouraging words. They make me excited to share more with wonderful people like you in the new year. :) Wishing you the best in 2017! xo
