Christmas Dining Room Hot Chocolate Station

Hello friends!  Yes!  We are touring again.  I’m on a tour bus that never ends.  Ha! ;)  The good news is that today’s stop promises to be pretty amazing!  Welcome to the Deck the Halls Christmas Home Tour hosted by two of my darling friends – Jen from Decor Gold and Randi from Randi Garrett Design.  If you are stopping by from Loi’s fabulous blog Tone on Tone hello and welcome!  I’m so happy to have you over to my house today!  I love having people over this time of year. :)  Today we are talking dining rooms!  Earlier this month I shared my Christmas tablescape with you.  Here is a quick picture re-cap for anyone who missed it..

We have loved this tablescape and I’ve used it several times this month when we’ve had people over.  What I didn’t share with you earlier is a little something on the right side of the room that is making my 3 kids smile daily this holiday season.

That would be our hot chocolate station. :)  A little tradition that we started when we moved into our house 3 years ago and one that my kids look forward to all year long.

I usually set our hot chocolate station up in our kitchen, but this year I wanted it in the formal dining room so that it was a bit more out of my every day sight.  I swear I gain 4 pounds from this happy little tradition every year!  I’m still hunting for the right piece of furniture for the side of my dinning room so for now, I just pulled a table from my bedroom to use temporarily. (This table was from Restoration Hardware but I recently found one so similar for A LOT less!  Of course I found it after I had already bought my table.. go figure!)

It was just the right size for a little hot chocolate station.  This was so easy to put together!  I hung a Merry Christmas banner on the wall with some painters tape (temporary set up!).

And then added this fun chalkboard and wrote: HOT CHOCOLATE.. $5 per cup -OR- FREE for good behavior.

I’m not above offering incentives around here. ;)

I was about to put mini candy canes in a jar and then decided they would look cute on our little tree.  This tree lights up so cute at night!  The kids and I adore it. :)

Marshmallows and Hot Cocoa Mix in festive red canisters.

And other delicious toppings complete our hot chocolate station.  This set up is kid tested and Santa approved. :)

My kids get excited to have hot chocolate when they come home from school.  It’s a great time to relax with them before our busy afternoon activities start and hear about their day.  We are loving having my favorite rug in this room too for a change!  It makes the whole space feel more cozy.  And who doesn’t want cozy at Christmas time?

And now our dining room is complete!  With lots of extra calories. ;)

  1. I’ve always enjoyed your hot chocolate station! You’ve got it set up so nicely there in the formal dining room. Love the sign! And the Sants mugs. And that cute little light up tree. I also like your printing/penmanship! I’d probably forgo the drink and go for the add-ins! But what a wonderful tradition for you and your kiddos. And as I was admiring your photos of the dining room, I noticed the deer plates in your hutch. Love those! I didn’t “see” them before. You’ve got those areas styled beautifully. Big happy sigh! Thanks so much for sharing, Erin. :) Hugs!

    1. Thank you Jeanne! Those plates were a Home Goods find! And Kole and I are in your boat and usually just skip the hot cocoa and eat the chocolate.. ha! Those bowls have been emptied and re-filled more times than I can count this month! :) Did you see our Chargers get creamed once again today? What a mess! I’m going to have to start routing for your team.. just don’t tell Kenny. ;) xo

  2. Such a great little tradition. That tree is the cutest thing ever! I love that table too. Such a fun mom with so many neat ideas!

    1. You are the sweetest Pam! Thank you! I’m so happy you like it. :) I wish we could have you and Lauren over for some hot cocoa! I hope you two are enjoying December! xo

  3. Hi there! I’m sure you will tell me that you had it made, but I have to ask where you found that chalkboard. I LOVE it!! You have such amazing taste. Thanks:)

  4. Everything looks so charming Erin! I love everything especially that darling hot cocoa bar! Merry Christmas my friend! xo

    1. Thank you so much Randi! Loved being a part of your fun tour. I’m so grateful for your friendship this year! Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family! xo

  5. Your hot chocolate station is adorable!! I’ve been trying to think of something unique and cute to do for Christmas drinks and this would be perfect!

    Merry Christmas!

  6. I confess it’s now a Christmas holiday tradition in our home to set up a hot chocolate station too because you gave me the idea. I only have room for it in the kitchen but it’s so pretty to set it up in the dining room. Do you let the kids se upt their ingredients on the station and just get the hot milk in the kitchen after? This year I tried the Williams Sonoma salted caramel hot chocolate. Oh my goodness! So delicious! I’ll need to try the other flavors each year. My hubby didn’t like the caramel flavor so I’ll have to get him the original chocolate flavor next time. I’ll worry about getting rid of the calories this adds to my weight after December. LOL!

    1. I love that you set one up too Debbie! So fun. Yes.. my kids get their mugs and take them to the kitchen and we heat up the milk in the microwave and mix it up.. then they go back to get any marshmallows, etc. The salted caramel hot chocolate sounds so good my mouth is watering! I’ll have to try that one for sure. And I’m definitely not worrying about calories until January. The rest of December is a free for all.. ha! ;) Merry Christmas cutie! xo

  7. I love this set up! I just bought my first place and I’m already looking for inspiration for the holiday’s (excited much?) I used Furnishr for my furniture cause their stuff is super chic but as far as decorating goes I’m pretty lost. Thanks for the gorgeous inspiration!
