Powder Bathroom (summer refresh!)

geometric-wallpaper
Our powder bathroom got a little summer refresh!

Nothing major because I like the wallpaper to be the stand out in this room, but a few small touches that make the room feel more decorated.  And more summer-y. :)

I added some white towels under the bathroom cabinet.  I tried different colors and patterns but white looked the best to me.  Crisp and clean for summer!  This memory foam bathroom rug is my kids’ favorite.  It’s so padded and comfortable!  Like stepping on a cloud.  It’s also white – like a cloud – and a few weeks after I bought it I wondered what in the world I was thinking because the edge started looking dirty from all the traffic this bathroom gets.  So I have a trick.  See how one edge of the rug hides under the bathroom cabinet?  When one edge starts looking dirty, I flip it around.  Then when both edges are dirty, I toss it in the washing machine.  It cleans up beautifully!

White rugs with kids are possible. :)

This little summer arrangement was so simple and inexpensive!  I found the blue jars for $2 each about a year ago at Marshalls and bought 10 of them.  I set out 4 of them on my tray and then pulled apart a simple grocery store pink bouquet of flowers.  I took these pictures a week ago and my pink flowers still look just like this!  Going strong.  They make me so happy every time I walk in this room.

I bought this ladder for my bedroom (it’s sold out – these are similar), but I thought I’d try it in here for a while.  It’s a bit rustic for this space and I can’t decide if I like it here or not.  I like something tall in this corner but I think I need to keep looking for the right something.

For now it’s holding two towels.. the navy geometric towel ties in with the rug.  I do like the pop of navy in this room!

It always surprises me how just a few simple decor changes in a room make such a difference.  Just like that.. our powder bathroom is ready for summer. :)

Here are sources and a couple of similar ladders and trays!  (affiliate links used)

And now I’m headed to bed.  Because it’s summer.  And just like that.. my kids are wearing me out.

  1. Beautiful bathroom! Love the flowers in the blue jars(and those blue jars…swoon). It looks so bright and fresh. You have a real eye for what looks good and what works! Thanks for sharing. I so hear you about kids wearing you out. Oh to have their energy as you get older! :) Have a lovely weekend!

    1. Oh my word.. right Jeanne!? Where do they get it from!? They never get tired! Thanks cutie. So happy you like the bathroom decor! xo

  2. I really like the rustic ladder in the room – adds a warmth to it and it’s a lovely mixture of elements. Beautiful!

  3. Hi Erin! Your home is beautiful! I am thinking about changing the flooring in my home. Do you have hardwood floors? If yes, how do you like it? Do you have it in the powder room as well? Thank you!

    1. Hi Amanda! Thank you! Yes.. our floors are all hardwood (including the powder bathroom) and I LOVE them. If you type “hardwood floors” in the search bar of my blog a post all about them will pop up. :)

  4. PS. .. any tips for organizing shoes?.. my kids are the same age as yours and I’m going to lose my mind. There are shoes everywhere at my front door, on my porch, in the mudroom. .. guess it’s my fault for buying them lol

    1. Ha! I hear you Heidi! Here are my best shoe tips.. get rid of anything they aren’t wearing as much (we just cleaned out our shoes and tossed old ones and it made a huge difference!), set up some kind of incentive for them putting their shoes away in the mudroom every time (or wherever you want to keep them) like a trip to get a treat or a fun activity, and during summer have one big basket for flip flops. We have always done this (a basket or drawer right by the door they come in just for flip flops) and it helps SO much! xo

  5. Erin, I love the vases with fresh flowers! I love the rug and white towels too. I do the same thing with our kitchen rug when I see the cream stripes getting dingy. However, I have to scrub out the dinginess with baking soda and water because it’s not washable. Boo! Someday I’ll find a washable kitchen rug I’ll like. Do you have any you can recommend?

    1. Oh no Debbie! Not fun! I never buy rugs I can’t wash any more because rugs always get dirty so fast around here! The ones in my kitchen I love and they are from Target! You might want to check there for washable kitchen rugs! :) xo

  6. Beautiful as always! I have been following along with your blog since Kole was born. I love every little update you make! Such a gorgeous home! How tall are your doors and ceilings? Ads looks like a peanut when you compare her to the door latch plate right below her face :)

    1. Thank you so much Kate! What a sweet comment. It means a lot to me that you have been reading for so long! Our ceilings are all different heights. In that hallway they are 10 feet and the door is 8-9 feet. I know! She does look little next to that, doesn’t she!? I was happy she popped in to say hi right when I was taking pictures. :) Happy weekend cutie! xo

  7. Erin, your home is BEAUTIFUL! I love everything about it. I have used many of your ideas as inspiration when decorating my own home. Would you please share where you purchased your powder room wall sconces? Thank you so much.

    1. You are so kind Cherie! Thank you so much! It makes my day you have used a few ideas from my house/blog. :) Those sconces are from Jeremiah by Craft Made. xo

  8. Hi – such a beautiful room!!! Am about to embark on a similar adventure. I have an odd question – wondering which part of the country you live in and if the term “power bathroom” is common in your area. We live just outside of Boston and I have lived most of my life in New England where we use the term “power room” or “half bath” interchangeably but not “power bathroom,” I know it may seem a small difference, but I am fascinated by regional variations in languages!

    1. Hi Monica! Oh that is so funny! I’ve heard “powder room” and “half bath” too but I also hear “powder bathroom” a lot also. Must be more common in the west! :) xo

  9. Hi Erin, I’m building and find that your house offers so much inspiration! How high is your panel molding in the powder room? 42 inches? Thanks!

  10. LOVE your powder room. Is this vanity custom made? Or can I find it in store/online? I need one that’s extra long with only one sink & storage. Hoping to find something like this retail. Thanks!

    1. Thanks Jen! It was custom made! I designed it and had my cabinet builder build it. I’ve seen some cute white vanity’s at Pottery Barn! You might want to check there. :) xo

  11. OT….Can you tell me the source of your family room light? Have searched your site but have not been able to find it if you have shared.
Your home is absolutely gorgeous! You are so talented!
    Thanks.

    1. Thank you so much Karen! Our family room light was from Jeremiah (Craft Made). I’m not sure if they still carry it but you can try looking it up! xo

  12. Where did you purchase your bathroom wallpaper and what’s the name? SoCal girl and in love with grey and white as well

  13. Hi there
Just love the wallpaper and bathroom light scounces, may I ask where they can be purchased. You have a splendid decorating talent! I am trying to mimick your style. My kIds make fun of mine😊
    Thank you
