Christmas in the kitchen (Warm and Cozy Christmas Home Tour)

Christmas-in-the-kitchen-35

Happy Wednesday friends!  Sharing a bit of Christmas in my kitchen today as part of the Warm & Cozy Christmas Home Tour hosted by my darling friend Jen at Migonis Home blog and Wayfair!  I love adding holiday touches to the kitchen – the place where everyone hangs out the most!  I try not to over do it because our kitchen is trashed and then cleaned up again no short of 367 times a day and I like to keep the surfaces clean.  You know.  For all of that trashing and cleaning. ;)  Just a few things in cupboards and around the perimeter of the kitchen make the space warm and cherry during this happy time of year.

Like last year I added some fresh greenery to my oven hood.  I have a love/hate relationship with fresh greenery.  Nothing like the look and smell!  For at least 6 days.  Then it’s a crispy dry mess.  Not worth it to me for my staircase (lesson learned last year!) but worth it in the kitchen.  It makes me happy enough in the kitchen to deal with the mess and replacing it a few times. :)

This year I added a few wooden trees on the sides of my Wonderful sign.  Because I’m tricky like that.  Here are a few pics making our way around the kitchen…

These simple red plates from PB kids were a new addition this year and I love the way they added a quick and easy pop of Christmas in the cupboard.

Candy canes and Poinsettias area always a staple at my house this time of year.

I kept the dining nook simple with a fun red and white striped table runner (a favorite of mine from last year!), my Hyannis lanterns that rotate all over my house and these pretty green flower stems.  I bought the faux stems for Fall decor but I love the way they look for Christmas paired with some red.

A few days after I took this picture I got one more new addition to my Christmas decor that I’m so excited about!

My husband and I love snow skiing and I’ve always wanted a fun wooden pair of skis to add to my holiday decor so when I came across these teak cross country skis on-line at Wayfair it was love at first sight!

Christmas-in-the-kitchen-9The perfect companion to my Ski Lift sign in the family room. :)  (You can see my family room and front porch Christmas decor here.)

I’ve moved them around a few times but for now they are living in the corner of my dining nook.  They bring a bit of vacation to our breakfast table.

Fun striped towels for the ovens make cooking a little less painful.  I have to tell you a funny story quick.  I got a text from a mom of my daughter’s friend.  She said all the 9 year old girls rave about my chocolate chip cookies (I make them when my girls have friends over) and could she please have the recipe because her daughter just loves them.  I told her I wasn’t sure how I felt about giving it out.  It has been in my family for years – handed down for many generations.  It’s called “Tollhouse.”  Ha! :)  Made me laugh that those girls think I’m the cookie queen.  Just goes to show you don’t have to be a fabulous cook to be a hit with the kids!  Buy some pre-made cookie dough and cute striped towels and you’re set.  It’s working for me anyway. ;)

Butler’s pantry is full of cheer!  I kept my Thankful sign up (details in my fall home tour) and love the black with all the red.

I gave in and set out the hot chocolate station.  My kids loved this when I introduced it a couple of years ago but I gained 4 lbs from this lovely little set up so last year I told them it wasn’t in the cards.  This year they begged and I gave in and once again I’m snacking on the toppings all day.  Enjoy until January when we all head to the gym right? :)

A few more mugs for the kids in case the Santa mugs are dirty.  :)

And that wraps up the kitchen tour!

If you missed it yesterday I shared our formal living room (my favorite!) and the fun way I’m displaying Christmas cards this year.

This has been quite the week of home tours hasn’t it!?  So many beautiful homes decked for the holidays.  I’ve had a busy (or should I say sleep deprived!) week getting these posts finished along with everything else going on (December madness has officially hit).  I can’t wait until the weekend when I can sit down and catch up on all of the stunning Christmas decor all over bogland.  I’m picturing me in pj’s on that couch with my laptop, hot chocolate and popcorn.  It’s a Wonderful Life playing in the background with a fire roaring and the tree lights on.

Then it will really feel like Christmas. :)

I’m sharing links to all of my friends’ beautiful homes who are also a part of this tour!  Be sure to check them out.  Popcorn, pj’s and tree lights are required.  The rest is optional.

:)

  1. Erin, your kitchen area is to die for. I absolutely adore all the touches you have added to make the room chock full of holiday spirit. So many fun things to see. The skis add a great touch to the dining nook. The butler’s pantry looks amazing. Love the striped bowls and the Santa mugs. So many fun things. What a lucky family to have you to set your home up to have so much holiday goodness! Especially the chocolate chip cookies. Loved that story! ;)

  2. Where did you find the adorable reindeer with the red nose? You have the cutest things Erin!
Happy Holidays to you and your family!

    1. I can’t think of one with a red nose? The little silver reindeer with red ornaments around their neck are from Home Goods. I added the little ornament. :) Thanks Kim! Happy Holidays! xo

      1. Oops. I guess that’s what happens when you aren’t completely awake at 4:30 am! Those are the ones that I’m talking about.
        Thanks Erin!

  3. Everything looks so Christmasy. I am especially in love with the decor in the window. I had a question? When you received your clock did it come in pieces? I wasn’t sure if it was Sappose to come that way or it fell apart during delivery. I did figure out how to put it back together and I am loving it.

I love all the red, white and silver. Your home looks beautiful Erin!!

    1. Thank you Cathy! My clock was all in one piece but I didn’t have it shipped – I found it at the store. So happy you love it! It’s such a cute clock! :) xo

  4. Your kitchen is beautiful no matter whether it’s decorated for a special season or not, but it does look extra special all decked out in it’s Christmas attire! The skis are such a cute addition, as well as the pops of red, black and turquoise. Cute story about the Toll House cookies! Keep on having fun decorating and making memories with your family….the season is over too quickly, and those kiddos grow up too fast!

    Warm hugs,
    Carol

  5. Hi Erin! Your kitchen (and entire house for that matter!) is always my absolute favorite and this season is no different! Great job with the decor. It has such charm! I have a silly question for you. Where do you put your paper towel roll? I never see it in the pictures. Didn’t know if you discovered a great out of the way place to hide it. Thanks! And hope you are feeling better this week :)

    1. Lisa you are such a sweetheart to say that! Thank you! Not a silly question at all and I’m laughing that you asked that because I usually keep our paper towels out on the counter and moved them for these pictures! Ha! I have a cute marble paper towel holder they sit on that I’ll have to share sometime. When the kitchen is clean I move them in our pantry but a lot of the time (because our kitchen is a mess a lot of the time!) they are out on the counter. Wish I had a better solution for you! Merry Christmas cutie! xo

  6. Oh my gosh Erin! Your kitchen is stunning! I love all the small details and not overdone :) I keep thinking my kitchen needed something, Candy canes will do the trick! I also recently bought small lantern Mercury glass jars of all places at the dollar tree and now I know I can put red Amaryllis in them. Thank you for all your ideas :) Btw.did you see there’s a new Twilight novel? Take care & Happy Holidays!

    1. Hi Debi! I did hear about that! Have you read it? Wonder if it’s any good. Thanks for your sweet words about my kitchen decor cutie! I’m so happy my post gave you a few ideas! Happy holidays sweet friend! xo

  7. Hi Erin! I’m a designer and blog over at Willow Street Interiors, and just found you through Jen’s house tour! Wow, your home is absolutely beautiful! Love your style and I’m so excited to follow along! Thanks for sharing your amazing home :) <3

    1. Thank you Erin! It is long but I didn’t have to alter it! It just hangs off both sides of my table a bit. LOVE that runner! Happy Holidays! :) xo

  8. I’m traveling through the tour and I love this stop. I skipped over to your Christmas cards too. The skis are great, and I love the simple arrangement as well. I’d buy skis! I love all your comments too.

  9. I love your kitchen!! Love all the festive touches! Thanks for the giveaway! If I won I would buy a new coffee table.
