Favorite Things (2012)

Finally this years favorite things!  Sorry for the delay!  I’m hoping there are still a few of you out there who (like me) haven’t done all of your Christmas shopping yet.  There were so many fun ideas shared at the party this year.  Great gift ideas for a friend, mom, sister – any woman in your life.  OR just a fun gift for yourself!  I have included links to each of these items so that you can find them easily on-line.  Hope this helps with holiday shopping!
The favorites I chose to bring to the party this year are not new to any of you.  :)  You may remember me raving a time or two about Martha Stewart’s line of office supplies?
And about how much I love the fun aqua labels?  Love all the Martha Stewart labels!
My craft cupboard – a picture of these babies in action!  :)
And you may also remember how much I love my small accordion file?
I carry it in my purse and love having all of my coupons, receipts, business cards, etc. organized and out of my wallet.  So for my “favorite thing” I brought this organizer, labels, and…
my favorite mascara.  Maybelline Define A Lash.  After I shared this in the post I did on my favorite make-up I got so many sweet e-mails from readers who bought it, tried it and loved it too.  Made me so happy!  It really is a great mascara.  And believe me, I’ve tried a lot of them!
Here are the three favorites I chose and came home with.
There were a lot of beauty products at this years party!  It seemed to be the theme.  I picked Maybeline Instant Age Rewind – works as an eye concealer and erases fine lines.  Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm – has sunscreen in it, repairs dry lips, and has just enough color.  Moroccan Oil and a fun pony tail scrunchy, and Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo.  I have used Moroccan Oil before and love it.  I don’t buy it often because it is not cheap so I was excited to get another little bottle at the party.  You just put a dab on your hair after you’ve blow dried/styled it and it gives your hair a nice shine and keeps the fly aways at bay.  The Neutrogena lip balm I’ve used all week and love the color.  It’s quickly becoming a favorite of mine too!  I picked the eye concealer because I have awful dark circles under my eyes (from staying up too late to blog no doubt!).  :)  I’ve been so excited to try it out.  I’m also excited to try the dry shampoo!  My cute friend Darci (and partner in hair crime) raved about it.  You just add a bit to your hair on days that you don’t have time to wash it.  You know I’m all about products that help prolong hair washing.  :)

This is my cute friend Ann (a.k.a Vanna White).  :)  She is the hostess of this fun party and her favorite this year was her Original Umbrella Stand.  She said it’s so easy to use.  Just stick it in the sand and it will hold your umbrella in place.  Perfect for the beach or a soccer game at the park.  A great way to keep the wrinkles at bay!

I didn’t get individual pics of any items this year, but here are the rest of the favorites.  I want to try them all!

Is A Belt (the invisible belt) – a thin, discreet belt that holds your jeans up in the back and holds down the top button flap in the front.  There are two colors and two sizes and my friend who brought this wears her clear, wide one the most.  I want to get this!  There have been so many times when I’m wearing a more fitted top that I have wished I had a belt like this.  Something that just holds your jeans in place but isn’t obvious.

Hydro Flask Water Bottles – keeps things hot for 12 hours and cold for 24 hours.  How cool is that!?  I’d love one of these too.  Perfect for exercising, taking water in the car, kids’ lunches, etc.

Mac Phone Eyeliner – Kohl – this is a charcoal grey eyeliner with a bit of sparkle.  Makes a fantastic smoky eye and is great for every day.  I’m excited to try this as soon as my current eyeliner runs out.

Say Yes to Cucumber Face wipes – Great for taking off make-up or washing your face quickly in a pinch.  Also great for sensitive skin.

Candy Apple candle from Bath and Body Works – smells so sweet and festive for the holidays.

White Citrus Body Butter from Bath and Body Works – the most moisturizing cream for dry skin.  Smells so light and refreshing and not over powering.

Hamilton Beach Water Kettle – my friend raved about this water kettle!  Easy to use and heats up super fast.

The Wet Brush – perfect for brushing out your hair after you shower.  I can’t wait to try this one.  It is supposed to work great with curly hair too so I’m anxious to test it on Addison’s hair.  That will be a true test of its power!  :)

Anthropologie Measuring Cups – Useful and pretty enough to display.  I almost picked these!  But I know I’d break them if I used them to cook.  I love them for kitchen decor though and think they make a great Christmas gift.

Hollywood Fashion Tape – This stuff looks so cool.  It’s a tape that adheres to fabric or skin and basically helps with “wardrobe malfunctions” … you know – keeps your bra strap from slipping down, your too low top from looking too low, etc.  Can’t wait to try this.

Mac Eyeshadow – Dazzlelight – this is a beautiful champagne color that looks great on a variety of skin tones.  Another fun product to try!

There you have it!  There were a few more, but I can’t find the links.  Pretty much everything I’ve listed I would LOVE to try.  Everyone brought such fun favorites this year.  These are all things my friends use and love.  One of my friends puts a basket together of several of these favorites for her mom and sisters each year.  So fun!  This party always gives me fun gift ideas and I hope it helped you too.  I’m going to share more of my favorite gift ideas on the blog this week.  Because well… favorites are FUN.

:)
Happy shopping everyone!
xoxo, Erin

  1. So many great things. I really want to try, “The Wet Brush.” I think the worst part of getting ready is brushing out my wet hair.

Have you ever tried coconut oil. That was my friends favorite thing. She said you can use it on your hair and she makes a sugar scrub out of it. I picked that and I love it. I haven’t used it on my hair yet. I guess you can cook with it too. I won’t be using it for that. Why waste it. ..lol.

I think I am going to try the mascara that you use. I use Loreal and it drys out so fast.

I can’t wait to try some of the things you listed.

    Thanks for sharing…
    Cathy

  2. Yay! I always love this post…so fun! I can not wait to try some of them! I’m definitely going to try the water bottle and some of the makeup! I have heard such good things about that concealer, waiting for mine to run out before buying it. Thanks for sharing. Hope you have a good week:-)

  3. Great ideas! I wanted to say that just a couple weeks ago someone suggested the Wet Brush to me. I have curly, curly hair (like your Addison) and it is also waist length. I’ve always had a tough time finding a good brush or good products to help me out.

As soon as it was recommended, I bought it immediately.

I’m in love. It brushes through my wet hair like nothing. Like I imagine people with straight hair brush….

It’s also fantastic on dry hair. I can’t believe how well it works, because it doesn’t seem different from most other brushes I’ve tried, but something is definitely different.

For sure you should get one (or two!) for your Addison, and for yourself. You won’t regret it.

    Merry Christmas!

  4. Thanks everyone! Cathy – I haven’t tried coconut oil! Good tip though. You will love the mascara! :)

April and Ashley – I want to get the belt, water bottle and make-up too!

Changelivlife – YEA! Thanks for shaing! I’m so happy to hear that. I can’t wait to get it for Addison. Fun stocking stuffer. :)

  5. You will LOVE having a wet brush! My hairdresser brought some back from convention last month and I bought one and won’t ever go back! :)

I have curly hair and my daughter is very tender-headed (although her hair isn’t curly). I LOVE it!!

  6. I made the mascara switch too and love it, Corey even noticed that my lashes looked longer so it must really work!! I love white citrus anything at b&b its my everyday go-to scent because its so nice and light. I have to share a recent tip I learned for dark circles, which I have too. If you put a little pink blush on them before the concealer it neutralizes the dark circle and they cover better. I was amazed on how much better they look, it really works.
Thanks for sharing these products, it’s a good list!

  7. I love hearing about these cute Favourite Things parties too! – Next year I definitely want to have one, I can’t wait!! And I’ve been meaning to try out your mascara since you first wrote about it, but had to finish what I had first! – just ordered some, can’t wait to try it! :)

  8. So funny, we just had our “favorite things” party last night (over 40 friends!! it’s become quite the hot ticket!) and I shared the wet brush (and a few other things)! That silly brush has changed my life! My “tender headed” girls insist on only the wet brush now. :)

Thanks for sharing – love to hear about others favorites!

  9. I enjoy posts like these, its always nice to hear of great products to try. I did try your mascara but unfortunately it didnt work well for me, it made my lashes feel brittle and stiff. I did try your ponds suggestion though and have to say, I love it. It really is so gentle on the face while removing all makeup, so thanks for suggesting that a while back. Hope your enjoying the holidays!

  10. Jenn – fun you had a favorites party! I can’t wait to try that wet brush!

Anonymous – oh no! So sorry about the mascara! That is strange because it works so well for me. I’m glad you liked the Ponds! 1 out of 2 at least. :)

  11. It was probably just me, I tend to have really sensitive eyes, really its hard for me to wear mascara in general. I appreciate the ideas for what has worked for you though. All of your shopping posts have helped give me idea. Thank you!

  12. This looks like such a fun night! Is there a past post that might have more details so I can think of hosting a party?

Thanks for sharing such a fun night!

  13. Organix Moroccan Shampoo is affordable and works just as well as the Moroccan line. My hair is super soft and smells so incredibly good.

  14. Love your blog, posts, tips, house everything! It definetly inspired me to get a bit(a lot)more organised in life!I had a quick question. We built a house last year and inspite of having to shell out so much money we still obviously have a cheap builder made house.Needs a lot of customising and loving.I’m in love with your kitchen and want to add under cabinet lights.Any suggestions how to which types and where to get them from.I know the market has so much stuff its overwhelming.Besides its just been 6 yrs in the US and I’m still “learning”.

  15. Hi Desi! I wish I had some good info. for you but we aren’t quite there yet in our building process. I’ll share info. on under cabinet lights when we get there! :)

  16. I love this idea and will certainly be hosting something similar next fall. So much better than the “White Elephant” parties everyone seems to like. So from the list I am trying the mascara. the OXO dish brush. I already use the W&S dish towels. They come is such pretty colors. Thanks so much for sharing. I can’t wait to read the rest of your blog.

  17. Like Ange, would really love complete details for having a Favorite Things party. From A to Z. Planning, how it works, etc. Thanks so much for sharing all that you do. Blessings and joy.
