New Shoes

New shoes for my crew.  The girls were crazy about Sketchers Twinkle Toes.  They weren’t my first choice.  They girls begged and pleaded and I gave in.  Even though these shoes light up so much with each step they remind me of Times Square.  At least I’ll always see them coming!

I wasn’t the only one who wasn’t crazy about a pair of shoes.  When Addison saw the shoes Kenny bought she said “Dad!  You can’t wear those!  You’ll look like a teenager!  Like Troy on High School Musical!  People will think you’re my brother instead of my dad!”

Ha ha!  What she doesn’t know is that Kenny and I are teenagers.  Our kids keep getting older, but we haven’t aged a bit.

We’re still 15 and 17.  Same as the day we met.  We’re just playing house.
Go ahead.  Call us Troy and Gabriela.  (Don’t we look the part?)
And now we have kids who make fun of the things we wear.
Which is terribly wrong.
Since that is what I do to my parents.
Because they are the ones who are aging.
But not us.
Kenny – you keep those shoes!  And I’m getting a perm.
We’ll live on forever.
And celebrate with a big box of Froot Loops.
:)
xoxo, Erin

  1. That is too funny. I refuse to grow up. My daughter is always saying we are like sisters. I shop in her closet and she shops in mine!
I love the shoes. They are all so cute. I have to say that Kole’s are simply adorable!!

I think Kenny’s shoes are cool! However, I think your hair is to pretty., even with our humidity. I’d say no on the perm…lol. ;)

  2. Thanks Cathy! I think I’ll be the same way with my girls! I love their new school clothes and would totally wear some of them if they fit me!

Ok – no to the perm. You convinced me! Wasn’t too hard, was it!? ;)

  3. Erin, I just wanted to thank you! Yesterday I went through all your organization posts for your daughters room/closet/toys and got my butt into gear and organized my daughters’ room/closet/toys!!! Thanks for the motivation!!!

  4. That is a great picture of the two of you! My husband and I also started dating as teenagers, and that was 34 years ago, wow! We still feel like teenagers, too (mentally, certainly not physically-haha)

  5. I have been secretly following your blog for about a year now. (Shhh…) My 8 yr old daughter has seen your page a few times and likes to read the post about your girls. Anyway, she just walked up behind me as I was looking at your page and asked if you had “two sons”! I don’t know… maybe the kids are seeing something different when they look at the shoes! LOL! Wanted to share that. (Love you, by the way!!!)

  6. Thanks everyone! :)

Nadia – YEA! So happy for you! It feels so good, doesn’t it!? I’m tackling one of my kids’ closets today. They get messy so fast!

April – I bought all of our shoes at Nordstroms this year. I loved those little Vans for Kole too! And yes – we love Target clothes! Circo has the cutest stuff for little ones.

Tondra – SO funny! I just read your comment to Kenny before he left for work and we were both laughing. Maybe he needs to return those shoes. ;) Thanks for your sweet words about my blog. So nice to “meet” you!

  7. I just told my husband the other day as we watched two retirement aged ladies boogie board at the beach…”I think everyone is just a teenager living in whatever aged body they have.” It’s funny to read someone else stating (almost) the same thing.

  8. That is so funny! I love the shoes but then again I guess I am old as well:)
Every once in a while my daughter will ask me if I am really going to wear somethng…really is it not in style or what???

I love your blog and look forward to reading your new posts each morning.

  9. Thats so cute ! I met my husband in 4th grade LOL.
We didn’t date till we were 20 though. I always tell my daughter ( who is going into 5th grade) that she could end up marrying a boy in her grade ! She still thinks boys have cooties , so she doesn’t wanna hear that lol.
My kids often remind me when they think I am too old for something lol… ( Im 40, so I guess to them I am ancient! )

  10. Oh my…my husband and I have been together since I was 15, he 16, and I totally feel like we are playing house too, it kind of crazy…maybe its cause we were kids when we met, but I still feel like I am in high school.

  11. LOVE IT!!! Addie is SO hilarious! I love the things that come out your girls mouths and love when you blog about them so I can get a good laugh! You two would be the perfect Troy and Gabriella, for sure! I always love seeing the high school pics of you guys!

  12. Hi Erin,

it’s so funny, we were at Ikea on Saturday and we saw a little girl with those Skechers and my two little girls just FELL.IN.LOVE with them (we’d never seen them before)

so the fact that a couple of days later a picture of them pops up in my feed, well, I’m taking that as a sign ;o)

Not sure if we can get them in Australia but I’ll start looking!

  13. Do you have my same reoccurring nightmare that you are sleeping with your boyfriend? Serious. I wake up and think..oh yeah…we ARE married, whew! (After 26 years… and I’m still sleeping with my boyfriend:)

  14. Omg! My daughter asked for those Skechers shoes too! They were available in so many different shades of crazy colors. Finally I gave in to the light pink Skechers.
