Update from Kenny #2

Hi Everyone,

It’s Kenny again. Just wanted to give you another quick update about Erin. She is now home from the hospital. They let me bring her home last night. Her blood levels reflect that she has about a half a “tank” of blood so she has very little energy and is pretty pale. She will be on the couch for the next 10 days and in recovery mode for the next six to eight weeks while she heals and her body regenerates her blood levels. The good news is that the worst is definitely behind her and she is now on the mend.

She should feel well enough to post in a couple of days so this will be the last time you’ll hear from me. That said, I keep teasing Erin that maybe I should just take over this blog. Judging from the number of comments from my last post I clearly have the gift of prose. Erin seems to think that it was the content of the post that resulted in the number of comments but we all know the truth, right? :-)

On a serious note, Erin and I want to thank you for all of the flowers, dinners, phone calls, emails and comments on her blog, Twitter and Facebook. While Erin was in the the hospital I read to her several times all of the blog comments you left and each time it brought tears to her eyes. We have been truly overwhelmed by the amount of love and support that we have received during the last week. There are a lot of good people in the world and Erin’s blog friends are definitely among them. Thank you so much.

xoxo, Erin

  1. Dear Kenny, while you may indeed possess some level of prose and notwithstanding how very grateful we all are for your updates…we really do miss Erin and all the pictures of her cute kids, perfect house and witty husband.

So glad the road to recovery has officially begun. Bring on the year of the baby!

  2. So glad to hear the good news! And Erin, don’t worry about looking pale. It’s all the rage these days, just ask Bella. :)

  3. So glad you update Kenny! Very glad the worst is behind you and hope that the next two months are good despite recovering. We’ll still keep you in our prayers! It is funny how many of my friends read this blog that don’t even know you guys. As I have been telling them what has happened several of them are like oh Erin I know her, I read her blog. Funny.

  4. I was just at Costco and saw those fancy shmancy wooden hotel hangers you guys use, started thinking about you and Erin, and totally got teary. I’m so sorry you have to be in “survival mode” right now; But you two are so tough and very lucky to have each other. Dude, go find some cute jammies and keep snipping fresh flowers for her to look at inside. Keep that girl down, and if she starts getting naughty and cleaning your house, let us know. I’m sure she’ll have an army (including me, who only needs but an excuse to fly down) to tidy up.

  5. I came to your blog from reading a twitter message asking for prayers for your family. I just went back read some of your post. What a beautiful family you have. So, glad you are ok and on your way to recovery. You seem so sweet & funny in your post.Praying for your family & your three precious children! :)

  6. So glad to hear you’re back home with your family Erin – still praying you recover quickly! Take it easy and let everyone love you and mother you.

Kenny I enjoy your posts VERY much – but mostly because I can hear how much you love Erin. So, it really all just goes back to Erin. :)

  7. Kenny and Erin, So glad to hear that all is well with your family. When I read the news, I was shocked to hear what your family had been through. So glad Bonnie was still there to help. Thank you for the update and Kenny and I will keep you and your family in our prayers.

  8. So glad to hear you are at home, I had an awful dream last night which I won’t terrify you with but it had me checking your blog all day with tears welled in anticipation of the next post. I cannot tell you how grateful I am that Kenny updated us! Hope you are feeling better soon. Cheers to strong wonderful women and the men who so lovingly support them.

  9. I’m not sure she will be able to stay on the couch for 10 days?? I am sure there are cupboards to organize, bread to make and other Martha Stewart type activities to be had.. haha.. Just teasin ya Erin.. Get better fast cuz I miss reading about all the energy, fun and ideas you have!

PS. I think Kenny should be banned from this blog.. he only brought us bad news when he did it =)

  19. I just came across your blog through Sarah’s blog (Clover Lane) and I have to say what a beautiful family you have! I just recently had my first boy after two girls, so your story really hits close to home for me. I got tears in my eyes thinking about what could have happened, and I am so glad that Erin is on the mend! Praise God! Looking forward to reading future updates!

  20. Dear Erin & Kenny,
I was just reading some posts by a blog friend of yours and this lead me to your page.
I’d just like to say that we’re sending many prayers your way and all the best for your recovery. You have a very beautiful family and a beautiful little boy.

  21. Thanks for the update Kenny! Erin, I’m so happy to hear that you at home, right where you should be. Here’s to a SPEEDY recovery because you have been missed in blogland!!

  22. I just found your blog, and immediately it caught my breath as I was reading about your courageous wife! Wow. I just had my third 7 months ago, and am very grateful I am still healthy. You just never know what is going to happen.

I hope everyone recovers quickly (emotionally and physically) and I will be sure to keep your family in my prayers!

  23. Erin, I heard of your experience through Sarah at Clover Lane. My thoughts and prayers are for you as you recover and get home to your family. My sister had a similar problem after the birth of her daughter- my mom and I were there when she passed out. It’s very scary. Thank goodness for good hospitals and doctors!! (My sister is just fine, by the way:-).

  24. P.S. Is that beautiful picture up at the top a field of tulips? I mean ALL the pics are beautiful. You guys are a gorgeous family!! That field of flowers with the barn in the background is awesome, I want to know where that is! :o)

I’m new to your blog so please forgive me as I get to know you. :o)

  25. I came to your blog via Clover Lane. I don’t often go commenting on new blogs, but just wanted to tell you this: after my fourth (a homebirth) I hemorrhaged and lost half my blood. (Whoo-hoo! What fun!) Then I developed blood poisoning and ended up back in the hospital (got two transfusions at that point). It was a rough start to life with four (and then we went and complicated it by adding a teenage foster daughter) but all is well now. I hope you regain your strength quickly and that the trauma of the experience soon fades. (I don’t know about you, but I was afraid to sleep for fear I would start bleeding and never wake up—not to give you any ideas of what to worry about, or anything!)

Hugs and love coming your way…

  26. Hi Erin, I came across your blog through Becky Higgins blog!!

I wish you all the best, you sound like you have a great support system to help you through the next 2 months or so. Rest up!!

    Canada!!

  27. I’m a new reader who just popped over from Clover Lane. My heart goes out to your family during this very difficult time. I can see the strength in Erin’s beautiful smile and have the feeling that she will shine through this experience.

  28. I also came over from Clover Lane, and just want to pop in to say I’m praying for you guys too. So many of us are strangers, but our prayers still work miracles, ya know!

God’s blessings on all of you.

  29. If I lived closer to you all, I would bring you dinner and help out wherever I could. I thank the Lord for your recovery, Erin! Your sweet baby is Darling! I’ll be praying for you and your Family.

  32. Hi, I linked to you from Clover Lane. So sorry about your yucky emergency, but so happy that your family is doing well. I just read your “Why I Blog” and was laughing hysterically. I have to say it totally reminded me of Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde. You are too cute!

  33. Found this through Clover Lane…bless your little hearts! My prayers and many warm fuzzies your way. Glad to hear that everything will be ok in the long run. Hang in there Erin!
And yes, Kenny, you certainly do have a gift for prose…perhaps Erin should consider letting you do guest posts every once in awhile. I’d be curious to read what a father of that many children would have to say!

  34. I’m so relieved that Erin is home and on a great road to recovery! I haven’t stopped thinking of you guys and wishing so bad that I could come over and help you. Kenny, thanks for keeping us informed. We love and miss you guys :)

  44. I found your blog through Clover Lane and had to leave a comment. I totally understand what you & your wife are going through. I hemmoraged with my first pregnancy. My placenta tore from my uterus before delivery. My hemo count went down to a 4 after delivery. After a blood transfusion I was up to a count of 7(11-14 is normal) Thankfully I had stopped bleeding with the delivery and had a healthy baby. I on the other hand was so incredibly weak. They put me on bed rest for 2 weeks which was fine because I was too weak to do anyting anyway. I needed a lot of help especially with a newborn. Simply taking a shower wiped me out, I needed my husband there to help me so I wouldn’t pass out when closing my eyes to rinse my hair. As soon as I was dried off, I had to take a nap. I did slowly re-gain my energy and at two weeks I felt good enough to go out for dinner. I also had started taking iron right away which was a mistake because I had severe constipation. So please be careful with that and have her also take stool softeners. My immune system was weak and I had a few problems with that. But I pulled through. It took me a good 6-8 weeks before I felt back to normal. A few years later my husband hemmoraged after an appendectomy and nearly died. He was rushed into surgery and had 4 units of blood during surgery and 4 more after surgery. They kept him in the hospital for a week. Just like you I could see how Heavlenly Father watched out for us and we were at the right place at the right time. We were blessed with dinners and lots of help from family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I am sure she will pull through. Tell her to be patient and give her lots of love and tlc.

  45. Hey guys, it’s me, Megan Thorpe. Remember me from the good old days at Dixie College (Rebelettes, Jeremy Woodard, etc.) Well, Erin I’m sure you know our mothers now work together so my mom tells me about you all the time (She loves your mom by the way). She told me what happened and gave me your blog address. I’m so glad to hear you’re ok and I wish you a speedy recovery. It was so fun to look through your blog and see you darling kids. Good luck with your new baby and your recovery. -Megan-
