Music randomness

I love blaring my music and singing in the car and I didn’t stop this when I started having babies. I remember once when Austin (my brother) came for a visit and was driving around with me and Ellie in my car (Ellie was 2 at the time). Ellie kept saying “Spiderwebs Spiderwebs Spiderwebs!” Austin thought I was going to turn on Itsy Bitsy Spider or some other kid song when I turned on the song Spiderwebs by No Doubt (second song on my play list) and Ellie and I both started jammin‘ to it. She knew almost every word. Austin got a big kick out of that and it’s still one of her favorite songs.

One of my favorite things about being a mom is the total control you have to influence your own kids. My girls will simply have to rock to Gwen Stefani…and wear a lot of green…and eat a lot of Golden Spoon yogurt…and learn to love their dance classes and pose for yet another picture. They will also have no exposure to country music (ICK!) unless they are forced into listening to it by daddy or grandma (who both lack serious taste in good music…in my humble opinion).

I’m always torn about whether or not I like music on blogs. I like to check out what everyone else is listening to, but I also like to solely concentrate on pictures and words and the music is a big distraction. I usually end up muting any music when I check blogs because I like to give the new post my full attention. I recently added a few songs to my blog just because they are songs the girls and I are particularly enjoying lately. Addison’s favorite song is The Show by Lenka (first song on my play list). At the end of the song the lyrics say, ” I want my money back. I want my money back. I want my money back. Just enjoy the show” Addison’s version: “I want my mommy back. I want my mommy back. I want my mommy back. Just enjoy the show…” Classic! Viewing the world from the eyes of a two year old. So stinkin‘ cute – I had to get it on film.

**push pause on my play list to hear Addison’s version of The Show :)

xoxo, Erin

  1. You are a girl after my own heart. I love music, I love to have it blaring in my car, and my girls all love the music that they grew up with and it’s one thing that has brought our family closer together. Your girls will remember it, and love it too. I don’t like Country music either so i agree with you. That little Addie is quite the singer. Maybe she’ll grow up to be on American Idol. Ha Ha. Love you and your family. So cute.

  2. Oh, she’s such a doll! I was thinking the same thing about getting her ready for American Idol!!! :) I’ve always played loud music with the boys, too! I hate driving without my music on! When they started repeating bad lyrics, I had to actually think about what radio stations I chose! I guess I should’ve been thinking about that even if kids weren’t listening.???

  3. That was so cute!!! I ALWAYS have music on my blog, my goal is to have music that supports the theme of the post…. if you keep that in mind, you’ll laugh at the music I pick each time!!! Isn’t music the greatest thing since Coke?

  4. That video is so cute! I LOVE spiderwebs too, didn’t know what it was til I clicked on it and realized I have been running to it for weeks–Joe loads my ipod. :)

  5. I enjoy your theory on raising children. I feel very much the same. Although, my husband has taught my kids some country songs; I can deal with it since they are always great when sung by the kids. My absolute fav. right now is when the 3 and 4 yr old sing “So What” by Pink.

  6. you are so dang cute! my poor kiddos would love to ride in your car instead of mine. i am totally addicted to npr, so sadly mine are constantly bored with the current economic or political climate. as soon as they know what the word”nerd” means i think they are going to figure out that mom is a big nerd. :)

  7. enjoy the control. someday you too will be wincing to your kids’ music. like me. maybe not. V. cute post! I like how you told us to pause your player so we could hear your sweetie:)

  8. That is SO cute! I love it! You are lucky – Madi has been on a big kick lately where everytime I sing in the car, or anytime, she says “Mommy DON’T sing!” Come on kid! It’s hard not to sing in the car, plus it’s the only place I sound good!

  9. Oh that is just to cute of a video, good job to get that on camera. To answer your question, I have the Cannon Rebel XTI (SLR camera). I have had it about a year now, and LOVE it, but really don’t know a whole lot about it other then it takes great pictures. I hope to take a class to get better, also just practicing and playing around with it helps out to. Good Luck learnig yours, you will love it though!

  10. Erin-that is seriously the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life!! I am sooo glad that you got that on film. I still can’t believe she is still two and singing and talking like she does. Thank you for sharing that with us!!!

  11. Erin I struggle with this all the time because when Rach and Becca were little I used to play Primary songs in the car and they had them all memorized really early.

Well, now I’m burnt out on them and don’t play them anymore. I’d much rather listen to ‘my’ music! So, I’m happy but my kids don’t know any primary songs. A moms gotta do what a moms gotta do right?

Eden’s favorite is Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani. She calls it the woo woo song.

Cute post! Love that Addy. You really should have her come play with Eden sometime.

  12. OK Erin,
I HAVE to comment on that post. Addi is SO cute. I just sat here with a huge grin on my face as I watched her sing… what a crack-up! I too find great joy in brainwashing my kids. Like today, Rachel had a bowl of black beans for lunch (one of her favorites!) And she said to me “mom, we like to eat healthy don’t we?” I proudly smiled!! The day she realizes that pronto pups are much better than black beans will truly be a sad day for me. :)

  13. I love to read your blog. You are so good to keep it updated frequently. You, Kenny, and the girls are adorable. I definitely feel your TARGET pain, but I think it’s worse when you have adorable girls to buy for.
